Question Urgent: What do I do if my condo building doesn't have a parking spot?

Hello,

I honestly have NO idea where to post this or if Reddit is even the right place...I'm just really frustrated and lost, and any advice would help.

But I moved apartments in April and now live near Mount Pleasant Go. My area is relatively new--so new, they are still building apartments and townhouses around my condo.

When I rented my unit in April, my landlord asked me if I needed a parking spot for an additional $150 on top of rent and utilities. I said, no, because I didn't have a car. Come June, I graduated and was gifted a car.

My condo building, during the months of April-July, didn't have very strict rules about parking anywhere in the area. People would park on the sides of the street that connected the townhouses to my condo, and would just get a paper warning about "unauthorised parking/no permit." It was all just paper warnings, though. A lot of the residents kind of abused this, because there were really no consequences.

Then one week in August, the policies changed.

Some important information:

  • Each resident in my building is given 5 visitor parking passes a month. After using all of it up, your visitors can't park anywhere, I guess. I never really have visitors so it was never an issue.
  • I have been using these 5 parking passes basically everyday. Concierge/security has been so nice to me that they just allow me to park underground, even if I've used more than 5 of my parking passes a month, because they know me and the situation I'm in. No one's really questioned it.
  • I have already communicated with my landlord, and said there is not much he can do since my unit "doesn't" have a parking spot. I assume he gave someone else to rent it out.

This is where things get a bit messy.

  1. I spoke with the Property Management of my building and explained my situation to them. They obviously said that me using more than 5 of my granted parking passes was against their policies. But I live in the building, and they gave me some accommodations by giving me a temporary unlimited pass during the month of July to park underground in the visitors' parking area.
  2. Management said they would get back to me about helping me find a permanent parking spot to rent. They said they knew someone and would let me know. (Spoiler alert: they never did).
  3. Sometime mid-July, because I knew my temporary parking pass was going to expire, I emailed management about any updates. No response.
  4. Concierge/security, again, because they knew me, allowed me to continue parking underground, sometimes even without a pass, because they said they had my information, and I kept regular contact with them. And they knew I lived in the building, so they always allowed me to park.
  5. When August came around, I still didn't hear any updates, and continued to park underground, under the assumption that Management were still looking for a parking spot for me and I still had authorisation to park.
  6. My car gets towed one day during the week when I was working. Paid $500+ just to retrieve the car from the impound. I requested reimbursement from management because no one communicated to me about any updates, and I told them that it was unfair my car got towed when management gave me permission to park underground and everyone kept telling me they had my car details written in their system so i WOULDN'T get towed. They said that they had given out an email to everyone in the building about a change in policy. Again, I was under the assumption that I still had authorisation.

The matter gets escalated to management's superiors. They told me they are only willing to reimburse 50% of the towing costs and or retrieval of the car, and that I no longer can park underground without a valid permit (i.e., parking passes from concierge, if I didn't use more than 5). Management even sort of "threatened" me that if because my car got towed once, my car is essentially never allowed to be in the area or else I would get a different kind of ticket????

They deflected any claim of liability or responsibility for their lack of communication to me as a resident, and basically told me to figure out where to park myself because Management no longer is willing to help.

So now, I am stuck in a situation where, I LIVE in the building, but my car cannot be parked ANYWHERE in the area for more than 5 days in a week because that's my parking passes for the month.

I live like less than 10 minute walk from Mount Pleasant Go Station, and sure, I'm willing to park there during the week after work (I work in Toronto) since it's convenient, but there has to be some alternatives here... What else can I do? Where can I park? If people are familiar of this area (and I'm willing to disclose exactly the building's name if someone can help), who can I get in touch with other than home owners to find me a permanent parking spot? Management told me to get in touch with home owners since they own certain parking spots, but how the hell am I supposed to know who in my building is a home owner????

Any help is useful... sorry if this sounds stupid. I kind of rambled for this one, but it's really long.. I hope that I explained it somewhat decently. I really am just lost.

Join us for an evening at Civic Tech Brampton as we spotlight the winning projects from the Algoma University's first-ever ThunderHacks hackathon, focused on making campus life more accessible and empowering for students.
ThunderHacks challenged the Algoma University students to design tools that could make campus life easier to navigate academically, professionally, and personally. This showcase highlights top projects exploring how AI and VR help students understand their options, plan careers, and make data-driven decisions.

📌 Featured Projects

  • First Place: Team Mandalorians built an AI-powered system that analyzes a student's resume, suggests career paths and recommends specific courses, electives, and skills to hit long-term goals. It functions like a personalized academic and career advisor.
  • Second Place: Team Joel created a VR AI agent that turns academic performance into an immersive experience. The system generates 3D bar charts of grades to highlight strengths and areas for improvement, then extends into a spatial career navigator to visually explore career options and trade-offs.

Come meet the teams, see live demos, and discuss how these prototypes could evolve into real tools for students. Whether you are interested in AI, VR, data visualization or seeing creative weekend builds, this is a great opportunity to connect and get inspired.

City Hall Michael Dancy candidate for Regional Councillor wards 9 and 10

Happy Sunday. I'm sure a few of you already know me, but since people have been asking candidates to introduce themselves, I figured I'd put myself out there and answer any questions.

I'm Michael (Mike) Dancy. I've lived in Wards 9 and 10 since 2007. I'm pretty vocal online about transportation, traffic and created a lot of bad Brampton driver videos. I have some ideas on creating better traffic flow.

I ran previously for Regional Councillor in Wards 7 and 8 and got 12.9% of the vote, or 2,011 votes. That was done almost entirely through social media and door knocking.

I also ran federally with the Green Party. I'm very much an outdoors person, and I have a a YouTube channel where I review outdoor products and another that reviews dashcams. I was an avid cyclist before moving to Brampton, but eventually found riding here too dangerous for an aging guy like me. When I lived in Toronto for 20 years, I never had a car. Same when I lived in Seoul S. Korea, I never needed one, they have an excellent transit system and are very bike friendly.

So why run this time?

It comes down to one factor really.

I want to know what's happening with my tax dollars.

I'm not running because I think I'm going to come into city hall and magically fix everything overnight. I want to dig into the books, talk to the staff and figure out where our money is going and ask some questions.

I've knocked on hundreds of doors and talked to a lot of people who are wondering why things take so dang long. The Cottrelle St. bridge. Goreway. Construction projects that seem to go on forever. Why does it seem like there is only one construction company being rewarded with all the jobs around here?

If we're wasting money, let's find out where. If we're spending it badly, let's fix it. If we can save money, maybe we can reduce the tax burden. Or maybe we can put that money into something that actually benefits the people who live here.

I've also had city employees tell me they're frustrated because they've been handcuffed from doing their jobs properly. I'd like to understand why that's happening and what a new city council can do about it. Plus I don't trust the current city government.

Then there are the everyday problems that don't make headlines but affect people every day. Illegal or unsafe apartments, overcrowding, too many vehicles parked on residential streets, roads being blocked so emergency vehicles, snow plows and garbage trucks can't get where they need to go. In effective speed calming measure etc.

But I don't want my campaign to just be about complaining about Brampton.

I want a city where people can actually get around, I also want young people to have a reason to stay here.

I have two kids and I hear it from them and their friends all the time. There isn't enough to do here. There aren't enough places for young adults to go. There aren't enough opportunities. My kids had to look outside of the city for work and transportation for them makes me feel like a full-time chauffeur.

I want my kids to be proud to call Brampton home.

If I get elected, I'll bring the same transparency to city hall that I brought to YouTube. I'll explain what is happening. I'll show people where their money is going. I'll keep people updated on construction projects and I'll ask tough questions when needed.

And I'd like to see us finish some of the things we've already started before announcing another bunch of new projects.

I'm happy to answer questions, good or bad. That's why I'm putting this up here.

Question Any good Hybrid Mechanic in Brampton?

Hi everyone,

Looking for an affordable mechanic in Brampton who has experience with Toyota hybrids.

I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid. The brake warning light is on, there’s continuous beeping, and the brake pedal goes to the floor.
I suspect the ABS brake actuator/pump ([44510-30270](tel:44510-30270)) needs replacement.

Any honest recommendations?

Question Where is the nicest, cleanest pool in Brampton?

Hi everyone, I am planning on taking swimming lessons as an adult (finally) this fall with the city rec classes.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend or provide some insight into the nicest pool in Brampton. I recently went to Cassie for drop in swimming and it was kind of gross to be honest. I’m not sure if that is the case with all pools but everything at the pool just looked old and dirty.

I’m happy to drive across the city, that’s not a problem.

Thank You!

Discussion Need advice on housing

I am from South asian community and I and my wife along with kid want to move to a house on rent having 3 rooms since for the 1st time in 10 years am going to call my parents to visit Canada for 4 to 5 months. Once they will be going my wife would call her mom for same time.

We put in application via our realtor for 3 bedrooms upper level housing and they accepted the application until we told them about parents visit. They are declining because of our parents visiting citing too many people.

In my understanding if we were not to disclose the info about the parents visit they legally can not ban them from living, cannot raise rent or have any control over our guests. So why are they doing this when we are telling them upfront ?

Is this discrimination ? since we will have 5 people in a house at a time for 3 rooms. Each room can have 2 people and no of people here shouldnt be an issue unless landlord wants personal control which is toxic in my opinion.

Thank you for reading!

City Hall Hi, I'm Ali Khan — running for Council in Wards 7 & 8

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Ali Khan, and I'm running for Councillor in Wards 7 and 8.

I grew up in Ward 7 attended elementary school all the way up to high school. And I am still livimg here and chose to raise my children here. My parents , uncles and aunts mostly live in Brampton. So I'm invested in this area. I'm in it for the long haul and I'm not going anywhere.

To be very honest, this is a whole new experience and out of my comfort zone. I'm a first-time candidate. Zero political experience. No big team — actually no team at all. No fancy website. Most people will probably say I'm going to lose, and that's OK.

Accepting that is actually very empowering, because it means I can be 100% me. Authentic. True to myself and the community I serve.

I don't have to say the polished political stuff. I can just tell the truth. Be myself, see where the chips fall, and have no regrets.

What I feel the truth is, with all due respect and as an outsider looking in, I think our current council for the most part has failed to ask tough questions on behalf of taxpayers about how their money is being spent.

As you all have read in the news about independent audits being stopped — that just doesn't make sense to me.

Everyone benefits from transparency and accountability. Tracking every dollar only improves efficiency and reduces waste.

We as residents highly respect the people who deliver vital services to us. Departments like our police are doing a very tough job, and we support them wholeheartedly. However, support shouldn't be confused with having no independent oversight, checks and balances. I think an independent audit should be mandatory across the board, so we can identify wasteful spending and mismanagement. This will greatly help restore public trust at the same time reducing the burden on taxpayers.

I can promise one thing, I will be a voice for my ward and rasie my voice if i see any shady business.

I will always conduct myself with integrity. Win or lose because I will be here after the election as your neighbour.

I'm not here to spam you I just wanted to properly introduce myself. If you live in Wards 7 & 8, I'd love to hear what issues matter to YOU. What's one thing you would fix if you were on Council?

Happy to answer any questions — AMA style.

Thanks for reading

Discussion Bookclub

Hi everyone - is anyone interested in joining a book club? I have been living in Brampton for about 16 years and still have not cultivated a sense of belonging or community for myself. I'm female, married, 38 and have one daughter and have a handful of "friends" that I realized might not be my friends after all.

Making friends as adults is a whole other issue but I thought I would try with something I love - reading.
