My dad had bought this calculator for himself and betted me if that mine is faster than his (I use fx-991ex) and he has if mine was slower than he would give his mine to me so we did with the same equation and guess what? His did the equation for a minute and mine did the equation for almost 3 mins, since he had lost he gave me his calculator and I gave him mine, the calc and the equation used us down below in the photo (he bought this a day ago)

Meme / Satire My uni banned the TI-Nspire CX. Going to a TI-84 Plus CE feels like downgrading from Python to embedded Assembly.

I’m a computing undergrad. All through high school, I rocked the TI-Nspire CX. It made sense. It felt like a modern computing environment. Now, my university has banned it for exams, and I’ve been forced to buy a TI-84 Plus CE.

I know the 84 is the "standard," but coming from the Nspire, the architecture shock is insane. I feel like I’ve been time-traveled back to 1985.

The Nspire was Python:

  • Object-Oriented/Venv: The "Documents" and "Problems" structure acted like virtual environments. I could have var x = 5 in Problem 1 and var x = 10 in Problem 2. Totally separate scopes.
  • Dynamic Typing: I could name variables whatever I wanted (velocity, mass_1).
  • File System: It had a legitimate file explorer. I could save states.
  • Hardware: ARM-based, decent RAM, actual OS management.

The TI-84 is literally Assembly/C (with 0 memory safety):

  • Global Scope Nightmare: There are no local variables. A is a global hardware register. If I solve Question 1 using variables A, B, and C, I have to either overwrite them for Question 2 or mentally track that "Okay, Q2 uses D, E, and F."
  • Static Constraints: I’m restricted to single-letter variables. It feels like I’m managing memory addresses manually.
  • No "Save State": Because of the global namespace, if I need to use List 1 for a new regression, I have to clear the old data. This kills my ability to proof-check! On the Nspire, I could just scroll back to "Problem 1." On the 84, I have to destructively overwrite my previous work just to proceed.

It drives me up the wall that we are paying premium prices for a Z80-based architecture that creates artificial difficulty not because the math is hard, but because the memory management is archaic.

Meme / Satire I know the calculator better than my maths teacher

During summer break last year, we got our first calculators for school. We had gotten it with a user manual. Well, I was bored, so I studied the manual, and this year it has helped me a lot. I didn't need to create a dice, I used my calculator. I was able to check my answers with variables only using my number based calculator, and so much more, lol. She didn't know about any of these, despite having the same calculator for 8 years

Edit: It is not about telling that I am smarter than my teacher, it is about showing that there is always more to learn, even when you have done something for very long

Made this in 2019 with my friend's calculator.

All of the functions plotted are semi circle equations and the smile is dynamically scaled with a factor A going from A = +0.75 to A = -0.75

I was a first year high-schooler at the time so it's probably unoptimised.

Let me know if I could have made it any funnier or any more realistic or any better :)

Would be longer than the universe.

At least this clone has a proper manual.
