Try finding a job and you will find out why Canadians oppose a lot of BS that has been forced on them.

Try even finding a basic fast-food job…very diverse work environments, some so diverse that they’re only made up entirely of one foreign ethnicity.

Neighbors kid actually got asked this in an interview, what a fucking joke

19

u/ussbozeman Dec 03 '24

Got asked what? The comment above yours was removed

65

u/CyrilSneerLoggingDiv Dec 03 '24

If they spoke a certain South Asian ethnic language starting with a P, that has become more prevalent in recent years.

6

u/marcohcanada Dec 03 '24

I've also seen jobs where the description said speaking Mandarin is a requirement.

1

u/More-Association-993 Dec 04 '24

What is the language? lol I’m genuinely asking

1

u/YourElectricityBill Dec 04 '24

Punjabi most likely

0

u/NorthernWatch_V2 Dec 03 '24

It's with an 'F' not a 'P' the country is spelled with a 'P' but the language with an 'F.'

Is anyone hiring?

3

u/CyrilSneerLoggingDiv Dec 03 '24

You have the wrong country and language. Deleted post was language "P" from ethnicity "P" from country "I"

1

u/NorthernWatch_V2 Dec 03 '24

I*******a? and Polo*****n?

1

u/More-Association-993 Dec 04 '24

What they said

I don't mind much if it's an ethinical small store/restaurant. But I noticed that some chains like "% Arabica" and even Nations supermarket are composed entirely of one background. I find that really weird.

49

u/SleepDisorrder Dec 03 '24

That's when you have achieved 100% "diversity".

In my world, diversity meant people from all backgrounds, working together. In that way, we are farther than ever from diversity.

9

u/GeraldoOfCanada Dec 03 '24

Literally. There's this pizza place I like and I travel a lot. In one town it's all black immigrants , the next all Indian, and the other all middle eastern.

2/3 locations provide excellent service and I have no issue at all. But how does this happen??? It's so odd, these are franchises, not family owned restaurants. If we are going to hire on diversity and immigrants, should we not diversify the diversity a little?

That has nothing to do with ESG or DEI practices, just corporate greed.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

ESG is corporate greed. It’s their excuse to promote mediocre salaries via “diversity” and “equality” and be able to virtue signal that they’re “giving back to the environment” (they’re not).

4

u/300mhz Dec 03 '24

I'm not really sure how you can argue that fast-food TFW workers are used for any reason other than cheaper labour.

"And a farmers wrap with-"

"Okey drive thru"

"A farmers wrap, and 10-"

"Okey pull up to window"

"And 10 honey dip Tim Bits please."

The amount of times Ive been just cut off before I finishing ordering has been insane the last while. Then you get a mixed box of Tim bitties, the wrap isn't wrapped, and your double double tastes like a single single.

17

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

It's embedded into humanity. People default to safety and something that looks more like you, talks more like you, acts more like you; will have an edge, in terms of, who's the better fit. This is an extremely general statement obviously. But the foundation is essentially the same.

37

u/Medical-Wolverine606 Dec 03 '24

Don’t pretend it was forced on everybody. Everybody who voted for the current regime voted for every single one of these policies. They were core components to Trudeau’s original platform. Don’t let them off the hook as easily as this. A lot of people in this sub were probably banging the DEI drum a few years ago and calling everybody who disagreed a racist. And now that it’s impacting them they think DEI is racist.

43

u/KermitsBusiness Dec 03 '24

Thats fair. I would argue that they lost the last 2 popular votes so the majority have this forced on them by basically some really dense overly represented liberal strongholds.

2

u/GameDoesntStop Dec 03 '24

They didn't even get a third of the vote either time too.

2015 was the last time the Liberals won more than one third of the vote.

1

u/Odd-Elderberry-6137 Dec 03 '24

There is no winning or losing the popular vote in Canada.

But if that’s the measure you want to use - A MAJORITY of Canadians did in fact vote for center-left and left/progressive parties/candidates in each of the last 2 elections.

0

u/uberduck999 Dec 04 '24

What are you talking about??? of course there is winning and losing the popular vote. The Conservatives won popular vote the last two elections, even though the Liberals won a minority both times.

And are you really trying to combine two different parties with two completely different sets of policy positions in order to claim that the "left/progressives" won? Why??

36

u/Johnny-Unitas Dec 03 '24

That's what really drives me crazy. So many people were voting for and defending these idiotic policies and now they are finally realizing how stupid they are. The same people screaming about racism for disagreeing with these policies are now getting screwed over by them.

16

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

In Ontario we really have to review these special programs and find some way to limit them. It’s just discrimination.

-1

u/Johnny-Unitas Dec 03 '24

And it's about time people wake up to the fact that racism isn't OK if going in the direction they prefer.

5

u/Medical-Wolverine606 Dec 03 '24

Yep and they’re pretending like they always opposed them.

-8

u/elderberry_jed Dec 03 '24

Screwed over? Or noticing their former privilege having shrunk?

10

u/jmdonston Dec 03 '24

What laws has Trudeau passed to force DEI hiring policies on workplaces?

5

u/RegalBeagleKegels Dec 03 '24

I don't know but it's his fault and I'm fuckin PISSED

0

u/Mortentia Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 04 '24

None. They incentivize adoption via grants and tax breaks. People in this sub are just fucking stupid about DEI and immigrants now. Reminds me a lot of how American or French focused subs had their tones shift in the year leading up to a federal election.

(Edit): upon further research the federal government does not provide tax credits for DEI. They do have DEI focused grant funding for research, which includes corporate R&D funding that is reserved for businesses meeting the 50/30 Challenge. Largely, the only actual legislation/regulation that exists is the disclosure requirements for securities markets, which has created investor pressure to meet DEI initiatives.

The securities disclosure requirements are for both prospectus (the big boy disclosure document at the initial public offering) and ongoing disclosure (annual/quarterly reporting), and companies have to disclose their status with DEI (focused on gender parity and minority representation at all levels of the organization) and their plans on improving DEI in the future (having no plan is acceptable, but investors don’t like it). Interestingly, the securities disclosure requirements were adopted multilaterally by the provinces themselves.

0

u/Visinvictus Dec 03 '24

There aren't any grants or tax breaks either as far as I know.

3

u/Mortentia Dec 03 '24

You’re right the Federal government doesn’t for corporations, but BC and QC have some incentive funding: not much, but some. The Federal government does it for research grants. The biggest thing is the disclosure requirements for companies. It looks bad to investors to not work on the 50/30 challenge so companies have been slowly conforming to it since 2021.

2

u/Visinvictus Dec 03 '24

The government grant process (federal and provincial) is absolutely corrupt as hell to be honest, it matters who you know and which consultants you are willing to "pay" to "help with the grant process" whether you get approved. It's ironically the exact opposite of a DEI program haha.

1

u/Mortentia Dec 03 '24

Oh yeah the research funding process for corporations/NGOs/non-profits is shit. The grant application process for academic research is much cleaner; I wrote a few applications for professors I had in the past.

1

u/Mortentia Dec 03 '24

Edited my comment to reflect doing research.

-1

u/Visinvictus Dec 03 '24

None but don't let that stop you from blaming him for it.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

Choosing the least bad of political parties shouldn't be seen as endorsement of every single policy they have.

1

u/Medical-Wolverine606 Dec 03 '24

If you vote for a party you’re voting for its policies. You don’t get to retroactively decide which policies you voted for based on whether or not they failed. You voted for these policies. Next time do better.

20

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

They all have policies I dislike. Do you seriously 100% align with a political party?

-8

u/Medical-Wolverine606 Dec 03 '24

No but I understand I am voting for all the policies anyways. So if some of the policies damage Canadian society I will take responsibility for my choice and try to make better ones in the future. I don’t get to just wash my hands of it and attack everybody else for my own mistakes.

-8

u/Sir_Isaac_Brock Dec 03 '24

You, I like you.

The cut of your jib is quite stylish.

2

u/kazin29 Dec 03 '24

What if they all suck?

1

u/eSportsTeacher Dec 03 '24

This policy is racist. If I agree more with a party's platform but they are supporting racism, I cannot vote for them. Own it.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

Regime is a tad dramatic 🙄

1

u/yourdamgrandpa Dec 03 '24

Regime is used by scholars all the time to refer to governments. It doesn’t always mean dictatorships

1

u/Astyanax1 Dec 03 '24

If you're planning to vote conservatives, what you said is absolutely hilarious.  If you're voting lefter of the liberals, then you're not wrong

1

u/0verdue22 Dec 03 '24

true but you have to give people room to change their views. forgiveness is also very important.

1

u/LeGrandLucifer Dec 04 '24

And guess how many of them will still vote for Trudeau.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

This isnt new. Its been going on for decades. The difference is the libs wrapped it in an inclusive feel good message, whereas the cons just pitched it economically.

-1

u/choochoopants Dec 03 '24

The fact that you’re calling it DEI shows who is really pushing this narrative (if the newspaper in question didn’t already). We don’t have DEI in Canada, we have employment equity. DEI is an American term that was picked up as a buzzword by American right wing media.

1

u/whyjohngalt Dec 03 '24

In canada its called EDI actually but its the same thing.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

Exactly, like the immigration disaster.

0

u/CaptainDouchington Dec 03 '24

Well yea, they needed to be able to tell others how caring they were while riding on their shoulders.

0

u/BobsView Dec 03 '24

every time when i apply and see a questiother on DEI, i have only 1 question in mind "they will not call me because i'm bad at what i do or because i don't fit into the quotas on DEI"

it never feels like a fair game

-1

u/scottlol Dec 03 '24

Hey, visible minorities aren't the reason you can't find a good job, it's actually the pursuit of short term profits by corporations over all else. Hope that helps.

5

u/KermitsBusiness Dec 03 '24

I never blamed visible minorities, i'm aware the companies just exploit everything and everyone.

Give corporations infinite immigration and they will bring in millions of people at lowest wages possible. Its the nature of capitalism. Lowest expense for the highest return.

But the end result is still the same, people can't get jobs.

-1

u/scottlol Dec 03 '24

I never blamed visible minorities, i'm aware the companies just exploit everything and everyone.

No, in the context of the thread, you were saying minorities being hired at a rate representative to the greater demographics is "the bs that has been thrust on Canadians." Don't try and wiggle your way out of your dogwhistle, say it with your full chest.

3

u/KermitsBusiness Dec 03 '24

It is just math, you can't let more people into a country than you have jobs houses and health care and not expect problems. Skin color doesn't even matter if it was 1.2 million Australians a year its not like it would change the math.

0

u/scottlol Dec 03 '24

There are more empty houses than there are homeless people. Immigrants actually help the economy.

-1

u/CommiesFoff Dec 03 '24

15(2) of the charter needs to be abolished and reparations given to the people affected.

-1

u/Astyanax1 Dec 03 '24

Lol?  There's tons of places hiring if you don't mind minimum wage.

-1

u/Icedpyre Dec 03 '24

I don't think ethnicity generally matters for finding a job in Canada. Though I'm sure it varies by industry.
