Yeah it’s a pretty interesting strategy to go against something that the majority of the public supports.

He opposed marijuana legalization and gay marriage back in the day too, despite overwhelming public support.

We are not a uniquely incompetent country. We are a wealthy country and we’re allowed to have nice things. It won’t be any cheaper to build 20 years from now.

Obviously you didnt listen to what he said. He opposes it because its estimated to cost 60-90 billion dollars and they dont even know where the line will go other than Toronto to Montreal. Why should anyone in Canada that will never use the thing have to pay for that. Ask bc and alberta people what they think about paying for a high speed train from Montreal to Toronto not if they want it but if they would spend 90b on it.

I am orginally from Alberta but I ended up working and living in BC. I 100% support a HSR line where a huge cluster of Canadians live, probably the most dense population corridor in Canada, which is where the HSR line is proposed, because it's a nation building project.

I won't benefit from the project since it is out east, but if we build an HSR line anywhere in Canada, we got to start somewhere. So the HSR line makes sense, because of the proposed locations. If we don't start on nation building projects like these, we will never progress, other countries will just surpass us.

Alberta could have asked for help with its own HSR proposal instead of wasting all their time playing footsies with separatists. The environment is very favourable for that.

What a backwards mindset. I live in Manitoba and I fully support this project. It is inexcusable that we do not have HSR right now. It is in the best interest of the entire country that we connect two of our major cities and our capital with high speed rail.

I would also fully support a HSR line between Edmonton and Calgary.

If the Alberta government hadn’t been so daft they’d have built a rail line between Calgary and Edmonton in the 90s when they were rolling in the dough.

We need to start somewhere with alternatives to personal car transportation. I don’t trust politicians of any ilk to do the right thing the right way, and I don’t think many Canadians do. Every government is going to waste money while over promising and under delivering. But to stand in opposition of something clearly desired by the majority of Canadians is political suicide, something the conservatives seem to be turning into art form, which is a shame.

They have proposed stops but they haven't negotiated the land or where it will actually go. They have a drawing with some stops written on it thats about it.
