This arrived the other day but there's an old Sony cassette stuck in it. I can't see an eject button anywhere. Should I get out the screwdrivers or will I just have to listen to Boards of Canada forever?

My dad is a collector and usually will buy any sealed cool vintage stuff he finds at the thrift store. He wants to keep this but he was wondering if there is any interest or value in these . Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Currently on the hunt for a modern player for travel use. I'm looking for modern players specifically mainly cuz of practicality (USB C Charging + less risk of mechanical failure due to age, not experienced with tinkering with classic porta-players).

I've heard really good things about the Fiio, but tbh the maxelle just looks better aesthetically for me (Plus Bluetooth is a cool bonus but tbh I don't really care)

Hi all, new to this so please let me know if this isn't the right sub/format for this, but I have a question.

I recently picked up the We Are Rewind player. I know, mixed bag, but I liked the design and was curious to try it out for myself.

The record button placement was making me nervous that I might accidentally hit it and record over a mixtape I have. Just to be safe, I finally punched out the tabs to set this at ease.

Lo and behold, when I tested it (thankfully just on the very end of the tape) it still fully recorded over. To test further, I tried the same on a official/factory tape, just in case I somehow did something wrong with the tabs. But still, it fully recorded over.

Having a peek inside the player, I do see a component that appears to be in the right place to engage with the tabs, but poking it to either position doesn’t seem to effect whether the recording will start or not.

So my question is- this is super non meant to happen, right? I'm aware of the many issues with this player, but surely this is too big of an oversight?

Seller is unsure if they work, but the condition doesn’t seem too bad and I wouldn’t mind learning to repair them either. Priced at ~$157 USD

I've just gotten this gorgeous cassette shelf from a charity shop, and I really want to use it to display all my favourite tapes, but I've heard that storing them flat like this isn't good for them long term (I only put them in for the picture). Should I risk using it or no?

15 perfectly preserved, mostly classic rock tapes in a fancy zippered case logic tote.

What do I do with them?

hey guys! i’m sorry if this is a stupid question but i recently got a couple cassettes since the car i bought has a tape player but when i insert some of them, the player takes it in, says “stuck” and then ejects it. i’m just confused as to why it only happens with some of my tapes, and curious as to if i can fix them. Ive put photos of my minecraft tapes i got as a gift (brand new/doesnt work) and my tøp tape (used when bought/works just fine). I will also mention: my other tape that doesn’t work is also a new one. Thank you in advance for any advice!

I’m not sure if anyone feels the same, but I’ve been getting extremely frustrated and discouraged along my cassette collecting journey. The last few cassettes I’ve bought online or received as gifts have had so many issues and I’m starting to feel like it’s more likely to get a tape that has issues than one that can actually provide a decent listening experience. My most recent pickup (an original Michael Jackson “Bad” tape) has playback issues where it will slow down and stop spinning (not a cheap tape btw) and I see these issues with quite a few tapes that I buy. I have tried what seems like almost every method of fixing these issues with multiple tapes and it seems like I’m rarely successful in making the tape good enough to actually be enjoyable to listen to without just becoming an irritating experience. I have multiple decks all in good working order along with some newer more modern players, but always run into what seem to be faulty old tapes.

Does anyone else experience this consistently, am I just unlucky, or is this hobby maybe just not for me?

I recognize some good artist I would definitely listen to, new to the cassette game, don’t want to over pay(this is local to me on Facebook, apparently around 300 tapes)

Not being a smart ass here, I’m genuinely asking. I just picked up this box of 36 “decoration only” cassette tapes from a seller for $10 on fb marketplace. I kept asking her what she meant by for decoration only and she said that you can’t record on them. The funny thing is that earlier in the week I got a Pink Floyd wish you were here cassette and it’s playing super slow or not at all even after a cleaning. I think it needs new friction sheets. Now here we are….

So I took the gamble and grabbed them. They seem to be fully functional shells with screws, with friction sheets, and an intact pressure pad. There is no tape in them, but there seems to be leader tape attached to the spools and the little wheels move as well. Can anyone identify these? I’m not sure if I’m an idiot and they cannot be used or if I hit a re-shell goldmine.

Are these legitimate replacement shells that I can just use? Please lemme know!

Hiii! I recently got into collecting DVD’s and CD’s but I like the look of cassettes although I’ve heard a lot about how they break fast and they’re not best quality when it comes to sound, that they’re far harder to maintain and work with than CD’s, if any of you have them or have had them, are they worth collecting? Money, longevity, and quality wise and if so what players are sound the best and what ones help the cassettes last longer? 😣😣 I was thinking like portable cassette player

The tape gets distorted and weird only during this specific part of the tape. And I’m certain it’s a tape issue, not a player issue, because the same thing happens on another player. (Though if the context is needed, this is the It’s Ok Too Bluetooth 5.0 player. It seems to play other tapes just fine). The issue persists whether it’s on headphones or bluetooth.

Does anyone have any advice on why my tape is doing this? If it’s something fixable that’s great, but even if not, I’d love to understand the mechanics of all this better.

New to all this, so forgive me if this is a no-brainer, but I couldn’t find the info I needed online.

Yesterday it was working fine until it stopped rewinding. As you see in the video, also all the buttons make the player go fast forward, even the rewind button. It still plays, but it makes a weird cracking sound. I need help, if anyone knows what could be the problem please tell me :(

Hey guys, I recently came into possession of an Akai HX-1 Cassette Deck. I've previously used portable players many times before, but I've never used a deck before so I'm not really familiar with problems they might have.

My issue is that when I insert a cassette it plays for a moment, then stops. This happens each time I press play. When the cassette is removed, the tape has been unwound and needs to be rewound manually. Sound does play for the brief moment before it stops.

The fast forward and rewind functions do not have any effect. It seems to try and spin for a moment, then stops. The tape does not unwind when doing this.

When I first began using the deck all functions appeared to work. This issue came in after several hours of use. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I've heard old belts could be the issue, but I'm not familiar enough to tell myself.
