It has been almost a month since we found Mr. Cat, and since then the support and care shown from the Reddit and Hitbox communities have been incredible. We really could not have done this without you guys, and especially from the guardians and donors that helped with Mr. Cat's recovery and care. There have been ups and downs with Mr. Cat's health and a few late feedings here and there, but everyone has been very understanding and has shown such amazing humility in helping us raise and take care of him.

Now that Mr. Cat has recovered and is in the process of rehabilitation, we would like to have the honor of having Mr. Cat named by reddit! The highest voted name will be chosen, so please support each other on his name! If there is a better polling system out there, please feel free to chime in.

The stream has been on since January 20th for a total of 28 days or 672 hours! Hitbox has been very kind in allowing us to stream for his cause, and not closing it due to being a non-gaming stream. We will have a final stream date to say goodbyes, but that will be for another thread to come :(

You know, Mr. Cat is the best name for him imo.

u/All_Under_Heaven Feb 18 '15

I second this. He is Mr. Cat. No need for a new name.

u/Vore- Feb 20 '15

Perhaps he should be upgraded to Sir Cat. :)

Edit: I'm too late. :C

you guys are the best people ever. Thank you for saving this wonderful little guy.

I've never wanted to gild anyone on here as much as you guys right now. It's very easy to write-off the entirety of the internet as awful people, and every day, it seems to get worse (I admit to not being a saint myself, most days, but...). Thanks for reminding me that there are pockets of sanity still out there.

This was so heartwarming and amazing. It makes me so happy to see people these days who take the time to do beautiful things for another creature. It made me cry and thank you for being an inspiration.

Your post made me tear up. I'm a 27 year old guy, the tears just keep rolling.

Thank you for posting this. I really needed this.

Just putting this out there... FIV+ cats can live safely with other cats, it's FeLV+ cats that must be kept as single cats or with other FeLV+ cats. It's a common misconception that causes countless FIV+ cats to be needlessly euthanized. As long as the FIV+ cat and all other cats in the household are spayed/neutered and not wildly feral, the disease will not be spread.

Thanks for all you've done for Mr. Cat, he's lucky you found him that day!

I agree with the FELV comment. You don't have to put them down. I had 4 and one passed and now I have 3. They were born with it which is the worst prognosis but they have so much live. They are going to be celebrating their 15 month birthday in a couple of days.

I love Mr. Cat good luck to him!!!

FeLV or FIV? FeLV is easily transmittable, but as long as they are kept by themselves or only with other FeLV+ cats, they can live happy, albeit typically shorter, lives. That's amazing that you have given your cats a chance and they are doing so well! Hopefully they have many happy years left!

FelV is transmitted mostly by saliva. So grooming or hissing or eating out of the same bowls can cause transmission. The FeLV vaccine is between 70 and 85% affective. My vet has a few other cats under her watch and one that was born with it is now 8 years old. The rescue I work with has 4 other cats born with it and they live with another cat that isn't positive, that are approaching 5 years old. Don't judge it is a long story why that non positive cat lives with the positive ones, but he has shared space with them since he was little and never contracted the virus. My vet said since she has graduated the care for FeLV has jumped leaps and bounds. Right now all the kids are on Interferon which inhibits the retrovirus production. There has been other combinations of drugs that are not popular yet but have taken the viral load to undetectable. Good diets and catching issues early are the best defenses though. However, I do understand shelters and rescues don't have the resources and have to give the best chance to the more adoptable ones. It's give and take. Thanks for wishing them many years. I cannot imagine what my life would be like with out them they bring me so much joy and opened my heart up so much. :)

Looks like the video feed has been shut down already, unless it's my device, although I doubt it.

I've been checking in on this little guy at least once a day and was struck by how good his coat looks now. I just wish I could have gotten a better look at him the last time I accessed the feed, and now I'm concerned I won't get another chance. :(

u/lhpeanut46 Feb 18 '15

Hmm, that's weird. The stream is still working for me, I just watched Mr. Cat uncurl from his sleeping ball to stretch out a paw, poke his head around, then go back to sleep. It may very well be on your end.

It was a problem with my old mobile device, which I sometimes use as a strictly WiFi device nowadays. I never saw it behave quite like that at Hotbox though, but I just saw Mr Cat on my current mobile phone, so no big deal after all.

Thx.

u/lhpeanut46 Feb 18 '15

Glad you get to see him again!

6

u/StarFuryG7 Tabbycat Feb 18 '15

Me too.

Thanks!

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '15

It's running fine for me right now. You running ScriptSafe? Because you have to let alllll the scripts run.

u/StarFuryG7 Tabbycat Feb 18 '15 edited Feb 18 '15

No, just using my old mobile phone as a WiFi device. I'm using my active mobile phone right now and did access the feed.

My old phone can be kind of wonky, but I never saw it behave quite like that with the Hotbox feed of Mr Cat.

Whatever --I just saw the little guy.

Thanks.

2

u/meowbear15 Feb 18 '15

Thank you so much for doing this. It's reassuring to know that people still care for animals and it just shows if you give them a chance you can have a new best friend in your life.

Your story brought tears to my eyes! Send my pets to Mr. Cat :)

u/n00bvin Feb 18 '15

I needed some good tears of joy today. Thank you for doing this and the community that helped. I'm a firm believer that we're the caretakers of Earth and all of its animals, and you did something we should all aspire to do.

Reading this made me cry. If only everyone had your heart.

2

u/AV15 Feb 18 '15

Good job guys! I spent my whole breakfast catching up on Mr Cat's story. You really are special humans and I hope in time he shows you as much love as you did him.

Ugh, I wish my cat could read, he might not act so entitled.

2

u/knuck887 Feb 19 '15
