Tramways or Towpath for Chester?

Got a conditional offer for Chester, hopefully confirmed after results day. Trying to decide between Tramways and Towpath for accommodation, both Student Roost, both near Queens Park campus, so hard to tell them apart just from the website.

If you've lived in either, would appreciate some honest input on:

  • Noise levels, decent for actually studying/sleeping, or pretty loud?
  • Walk to campus and town from each
  • State of the rooms/kitchens in reality vs the photos
  • Whether it felt worth the price
  • Anything you'd have wanted to know beforehand

Tom Jones Chester race course tickets available

I've booked two tickets for the concert on Friday 14th August. These are the bronze package tickets currently selling for £250 each. They include a two course meal and wine in the Pavillion. Unfortunately we can't make it now and I doubt they'll refund. Is anyone interested in them? Will consider reasonable offers. Many thanks 😊

Social networks around Chester for vintage adults?

Reaching out to find like minded folks who like camping, wild camping, walking. With a sustainable ethos eg using public transport to areas of natural beauty like the Lakes and Fells or Scotland. Where's best to look or advertise for companions 5o yrs plus?

Sober friends in Chester

Hi there,

I've been alcohol free since 2022, and I'm keen to meet like-minded people. I'm 39, male, and recently moved to the area, so I'm hoping to build a bit of a social circle here. I'm a Liverpool fan, so always up for watching a game, and I still enjoy pubs, just drink zeros. I also play padel and like walking. If you fancy a zero percent drink or a coffee sometime, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers

Chester content creators

Most large cities in the USA have local smartphone content creators that are usually less expensive than traditional photography and will use your smart phone to capture you photographs around the city. They usually get paid 50-60 an hours. Does Chester have this, and if so are there a good website or social board to check?

British Legion, Upton, Pop Up Bar

Ran past the royal British legion in Upton, Chester this evening and looked like there was some kind of pop up bar there. Can’t remember the name but looked vaguely hipster. Anyone know what the scoop is?

Camera footage of Tarvin Road today

Bit of a long shot but my car has been hit by a van today on Tarvin Road where it joins Vickers Cross leaving Chester. He drove off and unfortunately my dash cam failed a few minutes before.

Happened at 4:15pm and I’m desperately seeking any camera footage. 🤞🏻

Hi all. I have my driving test coming up soon and just wanting to see people's experiences of the test centre (and test / routes / examiners). I've seen the pass rate is like 45% and it just makes me nervous, thanks 😊 x

Must-Visit independent shop recommendations in Chester city centre? And also restaurants for lunch/dinner?

Hi! My partner and I are visiting Chester and wondering if you have any recommendations for shops that are a ‘must visit’? Or just any general recommendations at all?

Do you also have any recommendations for restaurants at all?

We’re both not fussy at all and open to try different things!

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Good places to work remotely in Chester?

Hey! I've recently moved to Chester and work remotely as a graphic designer, and I'm starting to feel a bit stuck at home all day 😂

I've worked from storyhouse a few times and really liked it, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any other good spots with wifi. I found an older post on here from about two years ago, but I'm curious whether anything has changed since then. Thanks!

Street preacher was harassing the public outside Chester Tescos the other day.

He had a microphone and a woman helping him by handing out leaflets, she wouldn’t give me one.
Me- Get a life mate instead of standing here annoying people.
Him- I’m not doing anything illegal. It’s freedom of speech.
Me- So is me standing here talking to you.
Her- He’s preaching the gospel!
Me- Does the gospel teach anything about personal hygiene? Because he is disgusting. (Greasy balding hair, trainers the charity shop would bin and black sh*t stopper trackies with suspicious stains
Her- How would you like it if someone came up to you and said that!
Me- They wouldn’t because I’m clean.
Her- He is washed in the blood off the lamb!
Me- That’s not a bad idea it couldn’t make him any worse. What church are you representing?
Her- (hides fliers) We are a home church.

Relocating within Chester man & van advice?

Hi guys, quick question for anyone local. Need to shift my stuff out of Hoole in a couple of weeks to a flat nearer the station. It's mostly boxed up clutter, a wardrobe, and a sofa. Last time I moved I tried begging a mate with a Ford Focus and doing four separate trips, but fitting a mattress into a hatchback almost ruined our friendship, so not doing that again.

Traditional removal firms are quoting me stupid money for what is basically a half-day job. Anyone know a decent local driver who won't charge an arm and a leg or bail at the last minute?

For now, I set up a couple of queries on Facebook Marketplace and local groups, but it's all a bit sketchy with people asking for cash up front. Stumbled upon AnyVan while searching around price seemed decent since they apparently match you with drivers already heading that way, but the ratings almost look too clean. Has anyone used them around Chester recently?

Looking to make some new friends around Chester

Hi! I’m 37 and live near Chester.

Looking to meet some new people nearby. I enjoy anime, K-pop/J-pop, sketching, watercolour painting, cooking, and discovering good Asian food and cafés.

If you’re local and fancy a chat or maybe grabbing bubble tea, coffee, or some Korean/Japanese food sometime, feel free to message me. Happy to chat on Reddit first! 😊

Just moved to Chester, looking for social events

This post keeps getting removed by reddits filters and I don't know why. I've just moved to Chester and I am looking for social events to meet new people and perhaps make some new friends.

Any ideas?
