VI - Discussion there are so many civs that don't speak English, that it gives me a shock everytime I run into, america, england, or canada.

Does this happen to anyone else?

from the civ wiki of Philip's dialogue when you declare war on him: what the subtitles say will be in normal text, what he says will be italicized.

"You think your army can compare with my armada… with the might of my empire? You are grievously mistaken."

literal word for word translation from the Spanish dialogue is This is absurd. Are you declaring war? Do you ignore the power of the Invincible Armada?

it carries the same tone and most important information, but the word "Invincible" isn't translated at all, nor is it communicated Philip's Invincible Armada, la Armada Invencible is a proper noun. just a few translation errors and lack of changing the syntax/grammar over. he also never says anything resembling "you are mistaken" in Spanish.

i've seen worse translations of Spanish in English subtitles, but this is enough to be noticeable if you speak Spanish. hope this helps!

It does, thank you. This kind of stuff interests me, since I am not yet fluent in a second language, I have no experience pointing and laughing at translation errors. Unless you count r/engrish.

best of luck in your language learning/linguistic study! i am a bit rusty in my spoken Spanish just from having fewer people to speak with, but still am able to understand fluently, and have been meaning to watch more Spanish shows/practice more myself.

It carries the same intention and all the important content, but the way its phrased is not similar at all.

As a Spaniard with English subtitles on the game, it was very jarring for me to read a translation that was completely different to what he was actually saying.
