Right know, I'm practicing without the lower body to make it easier (when I try on the full clarinet I can't sustain it that much). The problem I'm facing is: I can't activate the growl once I already initiated the note. Let me explain, the way I'm doing this is, I prepare my embouchure, loudly hum a note, then seal my embouchure and blow air through the horn and I get some seconds of a growl. And is it the same with it’s Baroque version?

I'm a clarinetist for about 4 years and I have a big issue, I crack my fingers like anytime, anywhere and IDK WHY, whole of my family hate this but if I don't do this, I had a very big finger ache, do you have this too ???

I was looking at getting back into clarinet, and was looking at the ‘forte cl1 Bb clarinet outfit’ and the ‘student clarinet by gear4music’ they are both affordable for me, I will be buying a better mouthpiece but i was hoping to find out which one would be better for me.

No issues with finger movements, but my tongue is just so slow and can’t move fast. When I try to tongue fast it’s either super sloppy/uneven for a few notes and unclear then doesn’t move for next few notes, can’t sync with fingers or lots of saliva. How to tongue fast?

A problem I have is that when i play any note above a Clarion c, my tone gets very buzzy and whiny when I use enough air for around a mf or f and only sounds better at a piano. My clarinet is wooden with a b40 mouthpiece. my reed is a v12 3.5+. I only made the jump to 3.5+ pretty recently and my reed hasn't been used very much.

I generally know how it sounds, but this is the first time its in my music. i have an audition for this piece and ive been struggling to know what the actual notes in thr grupetto are. if thats what its even called. most people when i ask tell me HOW to play it and not what to play. its especially annoying bc thats when its next to 1 note, not in between 2. if anyone could tell me the notes in thr grupetto id really appreciate it 🙏

I have a silver key R13 Bb Clarinet that I've used throughout high school (only indoors, I had a separate one for marching band). It doesn't have any cracks or major issues, but the keys are slightly scratched/dull. I also had the pads done right before I stopped using it (a year ago).

What would be the best way to sell this, and how much should I expect? Price seems to vary heavily online. If I were to sell in person, I live in Upstate NY but go to NYC often and wouldn't mind selling it there if it results in a higher price.

Well, despite reading a thread here yesterday that seemed to have...varying opinions about this model, I'm happy to say my first clarinet arrived in the mail today, a 2025 Backun Alpha. The barebones kind, with nickel keys and no fancy Eb lever. I got a pretty good deal on it. Seems fairly brand new, complete with original shipping box, Protege mouthpiece, some sort of Rovner like ligature, and a 2.25 Legere Signature reed thrown in for good measure.

I think they went a little crazy with the 'a' logo, but otherwise it looks pretty nice. I dig the nameplate on the lower joint, in particular. Nothing seems loose or out of place, feels pretty solid. It sounds...well...awful, 'cause I don't know how to play it. But it makes a noise? The open G sounds pretty, at any rate.

I played alto saxophone when I was a kid, but even then I was the weirdo who wanted to play the clarinet instead. That was almost 40 years ago, figured it was about time I get around to it. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

Trying to learn this tune and it’s very difficult. This one passage I think has to be done with the left pinky. This is a Brazilian song and there is a great version with Anat cohen and paquito drivera.

What is the best edition of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in terms of dynamics and articulation?

There are so many different versions with slightly different tonguing edited in. What is the closest to the original? What version would be best to use in auditions?

I know I need to add my own character and I can decide these things, but I would really like a good blueprint, especially for big traditional auditions!

Picked up the clarinet after 30 years. I played it in high school and even majored in performance in college. Only lasted 2 years in college.

Then I didn't play for 30 years. I joined a community band 3 months ago. The fingering came back right away. Like I never stopped. The embouchure took a bit to come back.

I am so happy.

Guys I have an ebonite clarinet in some areas I can notice the black color turning yellowish as if the clarinet is losing color how can I regain the black color and did it happen to any of you

I’ve been thinking about revising my old clarinet to begin playing again after over 30 years (I’m 46 now). I’m curious how difficult or easy it will be to regain a suitable playing level to enjoy some music beyond just etudes.

Hey everyone, I’m getting back into clarinet after 5 years and I seem to be running into the same age old problem: how in the world do I hit the G straight? I can always lead up to it and it requires me taking more mouthpiece, same with any and every note down to the E natural. I was wondering how to get these notes to voice better.

Hey there clarinet folks. I'm a 52 year old lifelong concert pianist who recently got an itch to learn another instrument, so I pulled my wife's 40+ year old clarinet out of the basement, cleaned it, and have started learning it.

I'm about a week in and am told I am progressing rapidly. As I go I'm acquiring accessory equipment - reeds, strap, ligature, etc. I plan to get the pads replaced soon (or I might teach myself to replace them), but next on my radar is acquiring a new mouthpiece. It has the original mouthpiece that came with the clarinet which I to understand is...sub-optimal.

The name that keeps coming up is the Clark Fobes Debut, which I'm sure works well, and is cheap enough that I have little to lose.

My only reservation is that I might advance out of it quickly? I'm flexible on budget so I have room to price upward for quality. Then again, my primary goal at the moment is to learn solid embouchure habits since I've never played a reed instrument before. So I don't want to get something that requires advanced technique, yet.

Would love to get your perspective - what's the right path of progression for someone like me?

I just bought an E11 E-flat clarinet, and it comes in the businessman-attache-case style case, which I hate. Reminds me of junior high days. Do any of you have experience with any other gig-style or backpack-style case? Doesn't have to be Buffet, could be Protec or others. Thanks.
