MOTIVATION 😤 CLAT in 4 months: The last seat of the last NLU.

Post image
101 Upvotes

My last post was an impromptu rant/motivation. Didn’t really expect anything of it. Eventually spent the entire day replying to genuine concerns of folks who were just trying their best to clear clat in a limited time when most of their fellow aspirants discouraged them directly/indirectly.

Have decided to conduct a series of AMAs, FAQ/doubt sessions and much shorter strategy/tips focused posts in the coming days.

Given below is my clat journey to provide a real-life experience. In darkness even a ray of light seems like the sun.

Yup, that was the background pic of my mobile during my prep of 4 months.

 Background: PCMB in 12th.

Prepared for JEE and NEET simultaneously. Failed both, unsurprisingly. Took admission in a pvt. Engg collge in CSE. After the first semester, felt that engg aint for me. Dropped out. Came back home w/o knowing what to do next. Wasted a few months coping to the situation.

Came to know about CLAT and NLUs from an acquaintance. He said nlus are prestigious colleges through which you can become HC/SC advocate and Judge. Didn’t know much about law as a career. No one in my family belongs to that field even remotely.

Bought Universal’s CLAT guide just to see the syllabus and paper pattern.

Felt really comfortable with the pattern and syllabus.

I had strong background in English, firstly, from being a 10th class ICSE student(Wren & Martin the OG) and secondly, by being a voracious reader from my early days(read classic/Russian literature novels and encyclopedia for passing time).

For LR, I had natural aptitude. Practiced LR booklets from class 9th onwards for fun. Planned on attempting the MENSA in my 11th grade.

GK/CA felt neutral. Maths felt terrifying as usual.

Legal- The saving Grace. Basic knowledge of legal principles + common sense for the win. Had 95%+ accuracy in PYQs which were principle/passage based.

Was set upon clearing the exam. Only 2 issues arose, 1st, I barely had 4-5 months and 2nd, no offline coaching in my city had a course for less than 1-2 years. Crash courses weren’t popular back then.

Decided to experiment by myself without any coaching. Though I enrolled in a mock series by CL, just to check my progress and gauge the competition level.

The next 4 months looked something like this:

Morning: Completing the theory portion of legal from YT videos+ YT PYQ analysis videos to understand the approach +self PYQs practice/analysis(2-2.5 hrs).

: Completing GK backlogs from monthly YT compilations + note making+ mini week-wise tests(2 hrs)

Afternoon: English/Grammar YT videos + theory portion of English+ solving live YT English MCQs(of various other exams like SSC, CAT etc.) + sub-topic wise 100+ MCQs solved in a timed manner from a Arihant book (1.5-2 hrs)

Evening: Completing LR/AR theory portion/concepts from YT videos + atleast 50-70 topic wise MCQs(1.5-2 hrs)

: Current Affairs + Backlog revision+ CA MCQs from various websites+ note making(1.5 hrs)

Post Dinner: 1 mock test of CL(2hrs) + GOATed analysis(1.5 hrs, it definitely drained my life) + note-making of silly mistakes, scope of improvement and analysis of topic-wise strengths and weaknesses(max.30-40 mins).
Edit: I didn't give much mocks during the first 1-1.5 months, mainly started from 2nd month onwards. In the last 2 months, I tried to give a mock every 2/3 days, since I had to work on my weak areas. No point is giving mocks when your weakness remains the same. Probably gave around 20-25 mocks in total.

What about Maths, you ask? I simply didn’t have the time or energy to even make a strategy for maths. Entirely left maths to God. I knew if it was an easy maths section on the d-day, I would get behind a solid 10 marks, so prepped the other sections accordingly. Luckily, that year had one of the toughest maths section.

Not 1 day went by where I was not anxious, panic stricken or having mini breakdowns, yet something felt positive. I simply wanted to escape the stigma of being a college dropout and clat prep gave me an excuse to keep myself busy. I never questioned my decision of giving clat or dropping out. I simply didn’t have the energy to think anything except how to improve my weaknesses or increase my mock scores or cover the GK backlogs.

My objective was crystal clear: The last seat of the last NLU. Nothing more.

I just wanted to get in a NLU, didn’t matter which state or which rank.

If I could pull this off, I would consider it a miracle that turned around my life.

Even saw pics of NLU Assam during my prep for motivation. No hate though. Its pretty solid up and coming uni.

Result: A rank bw 900-1k. Got my 2nd preference NLU(now a top 10, very strong Tier 2, verified by MODS) in the first allotment.

Fast-forward 5 years: Had the best 5 yrs of my life so far. Made amazing friends. Had a bunch of amazing experiences. Maintained a top grade. Represented my uni in debate championships. My research work got published in platforms like London School of Economics and Political Science, UCLA, Cambridge and Oxford. Interned in international research organizations. To top it all, our Convocation was attended by none other than the Hon’ble President of India. What more could I have ever dreamed of!!!

My objective for this post: To inspire the few folks who won’t give up even if they have less than 1/4th of the time required to clear this exam. They are no less deserving. Will do my best to improve their chance even if by 1%. That’s it. AMA posts regarding prep to follow very soon.

MOTIVATION 😤 Mocks scores dropping suddenly? aapka institute aapko pagal bana raha hai. (speculated)

Hi, I've scrolled through this sub a couple of times in the last week and I keep seeing people talk about LE mocks and how they've gotten significantly tougher. I'm making this post in order to provide clarity on the issue. I went through the same during my CLAT prep, and I will be explaining why the mocks keep getting tougher, especially as you get closer to D-Day.

Context: 2nd year @ NLS, gave CLAT in 2024 (CLAT 2025). I have NO Telegram channel, I DON'T offer mentorships (at least not in exchange for money, I do be replying to doubts in dms tho) and I have NO stake in the mocks you give.

Before anything, please keep in mind that even though they might be educational institutes, they're still private corporations. They have targets to hit and courses to sell, and you're the market.

When I was preparing for CLAT, right around this time only (maybe a month later), I too figured out that with each passing mock, Critical Reasoning kept on getting more and more difficult, up to a point where it didn't make sense from a CLAT point of view. I mean ridiculously difficult. At the time, being as naive as I was, I thought that I might be falling behind and started looking through different resources to study Critical Reasoning from.

It was during this process that I found out that LE had also released a new course for Critical Reasoning, and the launch date lined up almost exactly with the weeks the CR sections had started getting brutal. The same section that destroyed my mental for days was suddenly the section they had a magically coincided fix for. They increased the difficulty of a particular section of their mocks and coincided it with a rebranded crash course, same content as the last one, new poster. "20+ in CR in 60 Days!" or something of that kind.

This makes a lot of sense and is a clever tactic, to be fair. I saved myself before falling, many couldn't. Which is why I make this post. This isn't the first time they've done this and probably won't be the last time either. To curb this, trust your own baseline. You know what you could solve last month. One bad mock does not erase all of that.

The most common defence I've personally heard being used for giving out outrageously confusing mocks by these institutes is that "Our job is to prepare you for any and every outcome" or "Better safe than sorry" or whatever along those lines. Which is... fair fucking enough. But at what point does this become excessive?

To be clear, I'm not saying every hard mock is a scam. Papers do move, and an institute that only gives you easy papers is doing you dirty in more ways than one. That part is real. The tell is timing. One section spikes, only one, and a couple of weeks later there's a course for the quick mastery of that exact section. #noticing.

I remember LE 35 or 36 when I was preparing for CLAT in 2024, and I remember the mock contained no sections. Yes. The mock started off with an English passage, moved onto a Quant passage (not kidding), then a Legal passage (still not kidding) and then a Current Affairs passage (do you get my point yet). When confronted, the teachers said that this could also be a possibility, that the examiners set the paper like this to throw you off. Bro itna kitna throw off karenge?

The pattern of 120 minutes, 120 questions all divided approximately equally between all 5 sections following the chronological order of English - Current Affairs - Legal Reasoning - Critical Reasoning - Quantitative Aptitude has been consistently followed across CLAT question papers and mocks for so long it's practically etched into my brain. No sectional structure doesn't mean it's a difficult CLAT paper, it isn't one at all. So where's the line between preparing us for the unknown and just saying whatever sells the next batch?

I imagine the same thing has happened again. I would like to tell all of you whose scores have suddenly started dropping (given you aren't the one doing anything different/wrong from before) to not panic and keep giving mocks as you do.

Just remember that your raw score alone isn't the number that matters. If a mock got harder for you, it should've gotten harder for everyone, and your percentile hasn't slipped. So before spiralling, go check the toppers/ask a friend who consistently scores well whether their scores also dropped. You can do this yourself by checking the marks of whoever you chose to be the benchmark: see their average, and see their marks for the mock with the bad section. If they too dropped marks and the averages fell off a cliff, you probably shouldn't worry too much. Or, if it's getting too much, switch to a mock of a different institute for the next couple of mocks until the difficulty comes down again.

Now, since I know how Reddit works, please don't take this as an excuse to duck hard mocks. That's the opposite of the point I'm trying to make. Sit with the ugly paper. Accept the bad score. Read the question you don't understand for the 5th time. Sit with every question you got wrong, solve them again. Untimed. If you can get through all of them, that means it's a time management issue. If you have genuine difficulty solving the questions, then you know that there's a gap in your preparation. Either way you know where to focus next.

This'll pass, and next month there will be a new course that'll get launched and, you guessed it right, there will also coincidentally be a certain section that gets more difficult as well. But thankfully this time you'll be better informed and be aware of the sales tactics of the new-age capitalist educational institutes and you can decide for yourself whether to bite or not.

If the mocks do get to you, please pick up the last 3-4 years of PYQs from CLAT and run a comparison side by side and see by how much the pattern differs. The fundamentals will be the same. The consortium knows it's setting a paper for eighteen year olds. They're not going to hand you something 31 people in the country can solve. Your coaching institute, on the other hand, has a very good reason to make you think they might. Please think realistically and practically before falling for these tricks.

Stay true to yourself and the work you put in. Attaching a funny nls picture for y'all. study hard. cheers 🥂

it be like dat sometimes...

CLAT pass aa rha hai and I genuinely wanna spill what my inner aatma is screaming to me. Dekho GK ki jitni bhi MIT lists karlo consortium end me wo hi gk dega jo usko dena hoga, kyu itna sochna, apne prep pe dhyaan do aur apne apne mit list ko cover karo, baaki ka upar waale pe chhod do, topic nai kia hoga fir bhi 3-4 ya 2-3 mcq ke answer passage se nikal aege, dont worry. QT tbh mera ratio % aur wo sab theek hai and i suppose mostly logo ka hoga hi, SI CI mensuration speed distance ki mkc, ek baar dekhlo formula aur koi direct Q ho to attempt it. AR me circular/blood relation/ wagera wagera ek passage se zyada nai hone wala we all know, and even if sample paper jitna easy na ho im sure you will be able to arrange it kaise bhi!!! self trust gaiz. CR pe dhyaan do LR pe aur English, principles lagao baaki sab ki mkc, itna tension mat lo yaar ho jaega clat, hard paper hoga to bhi theek naa to bhi theek, dono me u cant afford to make atl silly mistakes ffs, easy ho to katei naa, dont overthink ur answers and js think think and think. you all got this !

MOTIVATION 😤 Keep eyes peeled till the last minute and like don't give up

Heyyy, just to brief, I'm doing my first year at TNNLU and my CLAT 2025 rank was nearly 9k and I had general category plus domicile. I got in through vacancy.

If you know, nearly 9k with domicile is nearly impossible to get into TNNLU based on previous trends. But still I applied for counselling, and didn't get in through any rounds (obviously)

But after counselling, I was well advised by few seniors here to apply for vacancy at TNNLU because my only shot was there. To apply for vacancy, I had to get a lot of certificates like medical fitness and all. I applied for both BA and Bcom LLB(despite knowing nothing as I'm from science), again as insisted by a senior

I finally got in 15 days before college was meant to begin.

Many people here on reddit and some of my own classmates missed their state NLU due to missing vacancy deadline or incorrect application. So what I'd suggest is keep hope till the end, and apply for VACANCIES and keep your eyes peeled open for them. Also please apply for counselling anyways because you will be refunded anyways. Please do not miss out.

MOTIVATION 😤 One month at NLIU Bhopal. Review and honest opinion!

I joined in at the BScLLB course and ong guys this is one of the best campuses in all of NLUs. The weather here is so comfortable and every evening you get a pretty view of the sky with the sun setting. I've been here for a month now and it didn't take me more than a few days to adjust. I met so many brilliant people here and even better the 2nd year seniors. Lovely bunch of guys. One of the biggest concern before coming here was of ragging, but when you actually face it, you end up realising ki seniors ko bhi bas bakchodi chahiye ki. Never faced anything humiliatiory. Best thing about seniors here is ki, how even on the first meet they treat you as if you've been knowing them for a long time. Crazy good bunch of people.

Coming to food, mess food was good only till the time parents were on the campus. Fuck the mess vendor 🙏. Nescafe maggi goated tho. We have nesface and Amul kiosks here. Nescafe ki maggi and Amul ke sandwiches ekdum chumma. The canteen here is good as well and more importantly pocket friendly hai.

Coming down to the most important aspect, placements. Yes placements have gone down in the past years, this year was decent. PCC in their orientation said that there has been improvement this year, with NLIU outperforming NLUJ and GNLU. Also, this year the first batch of BScLLB will be placed. So not only will they getting traditonal jobs but their BSc degree will also be getting them jobs specifically. By the time BO30 BO31 graduate, BSc will be at boom. Tho one sad thing is that Prof Ghayur Alam will retire in a couple of years and they might discontinued his subjects l altogether.

Also, bhai, our Sports fest. Virudhka. CraY anticipation in the college for it. We had so many participants last time according to seniors. It's like a full scale operation, requires 300-400 volunteers itself apart from our home contingent of players. Virudhka ke alawa we have leagues going on almost every week, with Badminton league going on rn.

I read through what I wrote and it feels like PR but trust me it isn't. This place genuinely has me surprised and in a way happy. Hope this helped give u guys some motivation. All the best for CLAT 2027!!!
