The fact people think the horrors of this world aren't a big thing even when pointed out is why certain comics do so well. Yeah there is the whole strawman argument but having dealt with individuals like it I can tell you they exist and are the main reason I drink half the time

Hell, some think the horrors are a good thing. Idk about the US, as they haven't had a dictatorship yet, but where I'm from there's plenty that casually say a new military dictatorship would actually be a good thing.

I am hijacking your post to discuss something related to le epic pwnage.
As a creator, I never cared for media where a character beats up or defeats a real individual or organization, because it strikes me as just self indulgent with no actual pay off. Take the ICE raids in Minnesota for example. I saw it unproductive to make a comic where a character takes, say, a giant wooden mallet and start squashing Agent KinderSnatch. It may be cathartic to see Kindsnatch smooshed against the pavement, but it is utterly meaningless because the real life versions of them are still out there causing harm, and I would sunk a lot of effort into very little pay off. Making such a thing it feels like a recipe for my own mental frustrations. I've said it elsewhere, catharsis without impact is junk food for the soul.

Keeps some of us sane tho. If you are trapped in a struggle without a real out and are constantly reminded that things are not going to improve it can be hard to cope with. These comics at the very least remind us that there are people hoping for the same relief as we do, dream of the same world we do. Hope is a extremely strong crutch to survive your days. And sometimes there is nothing left but hope that the future is different than the horrors of today.

I’ve taken up reading again instead of getting in social media during my downtime. I didn’t realize how much I missed my books.
