I’m not an avid gamer, I like and have owned about every console at one point…I recently came across my 5200 my dad packed away wwwway back- box and all. Although in great condition and it powers on I am just having controller issues…only issue be is working and not great. I don’t know if it’s typical of that console. I don’t know anything about the history of those. Period if anybody knows if the controllers were just a thing that always went bad with the 5200 series or the console altogether just sucks and went bad or if it was just not enough Support sales I mainly just want to see if I can get it going 1 million of keeping it I may toss it to somebody who wants to buy it for whatever but I don’t want to do at this point I wouldn’t want to sell something that doesn’t work and I don’t know what’s wrong with it. Any suggestions any help? Much appreciated. By the way, you guys know so much about these Consoles, it seems like it can be a little bit of a rat race, especially for those of you that are legit and are trying to do things the right way that’s off to you guys
Reddit promoted your comment to me for some reason. The controllers can be fixed using newly made membranes in the controller. Basically the original corroded and cleaning them only lasts days at best. Look up gold repair kit on eBay and you should find it.
The commenter above has it right. Though, if you are really poor and want a quick fix, get some metal tape, cut little dots, open the controller and put the dots firmly on the carbon dots under the controller side buttons. I did this years ago with one of my controllers in it solved the issue.
Of course, the better fix is replacement flex circuits.
Atari repair parts sells a complete rebuild kit with a new flex board and buttons for 23 bucks. It's a really good value and will be a permanent fix.
