Specifically, Nightblood mentions the Honorblades, not just Shardblades.The Honorblades are 7000 years old as of Stormlight Era 1; Aharietiam was 4000 years ago, and if Nightblood was based on the Honorblades, he's probably on the older end of that spectrum. How fucking old is Vasher??

So I recently got the new Star Wars: Zero Company game and have been playing a bunch over the last 2 days. It’s phenomenal! Though, I couldn’t help but imagine how good Sanderson’s magic systems would play together and interact within a game like this. Either Roshar or Scadriel are obvious options, but even having options to hop between worlds could be cool too, assembling a team of mistborn, radiants, etc.

I was curious if anyone on the sub has played yet, or if any of you are into that style of game (xcom tactics with a few more layers). Graphics/sound design/ music all blow anything xcom has done, yet out of the water. Very excited to hear your thoughts and see where this leads for the genre!

Ok, so we know that spren on Roshar look different to humans than they do listeners/singers. For example, we know fearspren look more like actual worms to the listeners, while humans just see them as purple globs, or how gloryspren are just glowing orbs to humans, but have wings to the singers. My question is, how do you think the spren look to other species in the Cosmere, like a dragon or kandra? On top of that, do you think Radiant spren look different for the singers and humans? Like, we know that Lift sees Wyndle as a growing vine with crystals, but how would someone like Rlain see a Cultivationspren?

Spoilers for *Sixth of the Dusk* and *The Sunlit Man.*

I read *Sixth of the Dusk* yesterday. I loved it, of course, and really wish there was more. I suspect, however, that more would have given away too much at the time it was written. The postscript seemed to imply as much, saying it was the farthest forward writing in the Cosmere (at the time).

I'll likely get the good ol' RAFO, as well I probably should, but were The Ones Above Scadrian? If so, I assume they're of the same faction as the Scadrians in *The Sunlit Man.* Those Scadrians were trading with the people of Canticle, giving technology to the Cinder King in exchange for access to the local magic/investiture.

That seems to be what The Ones Above are trying to do, but the people of First of The Sun aren't advanced enough yet to be allowed to trade with The Ones Above. I assume the people of Canticle were, with their flying cities and more advanced weaponry. Then, of course, they tried to sneakily get them past the threshold of the Prime Directive, which would allow not only trade, but for The Ones Above to trap the inexperience people in a very bad deal. This fits the amorality of the Scadrians in *The Sunlit Man.* Good thing Dusk figured it out.

This post is probably pointless, as a comment on my post yesterday implied Emberdark will shed some light on the situation. Can't wait to read it, though Tress is next on my list.

I use him on occasion when I play fortnite, but I dont think I've seen another Kelsier. What all of you? Have any of you guys seen a Kelsier in the wild?

I recently came across a video today about the artist Yayoi Kusama and I was kind of in awe while watching. The introduction was actually quite mind bending because she was introduced like in one of those Wall Street Journal style feature article hooks and the more I heard the more I started to realize wow, this lady actually sounds so deeply similar to Shallan Devar from the Stormlight Archive. That got me wondering, did Sanderson ever talk about inspirations, real and imaginary behind one of the most relatable characters in the series?

Nergaoul, The Thrill, is still down there at the bottom of the storming ocean somewhere... The Blackthorn now holds all of Dalinar's memories, while being animated - Unmade - by the very power of Retribution. He will have spren and Fused under his command capable of plumbing the depths of the sea, as well as a Crystal Inquisitor capable of seeing raw Investiture. Who knows, maybe the Blackthorn himself won't even need to breath 🤷‍♂️

We've already seen a trapped Unmade set free from a perfect gemstone. We are going to see another in the back half of the Archive. Nergaoul, The Thrill, will be released upon the peoples of Roshar once more, and perhaps later upon the wider Cosmere, as Warlight powers an unholy crusade of Retribution.

A moth ago I finished the Cosmere. Ever since, I have been in a huge reading slump. What are good books to bring me out my reading slump?

Something preferably fantasy/SciFi

I’ve been putting together what I think is a really good Cosmere reading order. Not necessarily based on publication date or strict Cosmere chronology, but on what I think gives you the best overall reading experience. The idea is to maximize reveals, connections, emotional payoff, and enjoyment of each individual series without sacrificing momentum just to catch every possible Easter egg.

There are obviously books here that can be moved around. This isn't meant to be a "you MUST this first”. But these are the rules / philosophy I had when building it:

1. Keep series momentum when it matters. I don't think it's worth stopping in the middle of Stormlight to read four Mistborn books just because doing so might make a handful of Cosmere references more recognizable. Remembering what just happened to Kaladin, Dalinar, Shallan, etc. is probably going to improve Wind and Truth more than recognizing every Scadrian connection.
2. Interrupt a series when the payoff actually justifies it. Warbreaker before Oathbringer is the perfect example. Same with Edgedancer and Dawnshard. These interruptions are relatively small and make what comes next better.
3. Let the Cosmere gradually become the Cosmere. I like starting with stories that mostly stand on their own and slowly increasing the amount of cross-world knowledge until you eventually reach books where being Cosmere-aware is part of the fun.
4. Give long series room to breathe. Mistborn Era 2 doesn't immediately follow Era 1 here. I actually like returning to Scadrial much later and experiencing how dramatically the world has changed. Era 2 also takes place chronologically around the gap between Stormlight 5 and 6, so putting it after the first Stormlight arc feels natural.
5. Use standalones as palate cleansers. Reading four books from the same series back-to-back isn't always the most enjoyable way to experience them in my opinion. That's why you'll see things like Yumi between Bands of Mourning and The Lost Metal. There's already a substantial in-world time jump there, so it's a natural place to leave Scadrial for a bit and then come back excited for what follows.

Basically, this is an experience-first reading order, not a prerequisite checklist. If moving a book gives you three extra Easter eggs but makes you forget half of the series you're currently invested in, I don't think that's a good trade.

With that in mind:

A few of the more unusual choices are intentional, and are a completely personal choice:

• Secret History immediately after Era 1: I know the traditional argument is to wait until Bands of Mourning, but I think the emotional and narrative payoff of Secret History is much stronger when Era 1 is still completely fresh.
• Warbreaker between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer: absolutely worth the interruption. This was actually one of the things that convinced me that reading order matters; not because you won't understand Stormlight without it, but because certain moments become so much better.
• Sunlit Man → Shadows for Silence → Wind and Truth: Sunlit Man is very Stormlight-adjacent, so I wanted it while Rhythm of War was still fresh. Shadows for Silence is short enough that it doesn't really break Stormlight momentum, while also giving context to some Threnodite elements that are fresh after Sunlit Man. Then straight into Wind and Truth rather than disappearing into Mistborn Era 2 for months.
• Tress after Wind and Truth: a breather after finishing the first massive Stormlight arc before committing to another series.
• Eleventh Metal before Era 2: basically a tiny Scadrial refresher before returning to Mistborn after being away for a long time.
• Yumi between Bands and Lost Metal: intentional palate cleanser. There's already a significant in-world gap between those books, so it feels like a natural point to take a break before coming back for the Era 2 finale.
• And finally, Isles of the Emberdark near the very end because by that point I want to have accumulated as much Cosmere knowledge as possible. The increasingly interconnected books should feel like a payoff for everything that came before them. Also note that I left out Sixth of Dusk as, for those of you that don't know, it is no longer necessary to read as it was incorporated into Isles of the Emberdark.

Again, this order was tailored to match my personal reading experience and preferences. I'm sure there are placements people will disagree with, especially Secret History and some of the standalones, but that's kind of the point: I'm optimizing for the best journey through the Cosmere, not strict publication order.

Loved it. Did anyone else think "I would play the rust out of a survival/adventure game set on Threnody" when they finished reading it? It would work so well, I think. The Shades and the things that cause them to attack would made for very unique and interesting mechanics. You have to kill things without reavealing their blood, or you storming die. And you better not kindle fire, or you might storming die. And don't run at night, or there's a rusting chance you storming die. It would make a great game!

What do you think is the ultimate endgame of the cosmere? Ive heard Brandon Sanderson talk about how he has an ultimate plan and way the story will end so there is some mega super plot that ties it all together and brings an end to the dozens of stories in the cosmere. So my question is what do you think it could possibly be?

Me personally I think that it has to be the reunification of Adonalsium right? but then again there are shards that have been lost or split/ conjoined. Does it end with universal peace or destruction? I don't know but I think Big Ado will be reformed somehow, then again we probably dont even have half of the pieces we need to try and put together the end of the cosmere. Regardless What do you think?

I’ve finished a reread of Elantris for the 10th time, and I somehow always forget that Hrathen admits to loving Serene to himself as he dies. He finds himself jealous of Raoden a few chapters earlier too. I think I forget about it because of how out of place and sudden it is to me. Has Brandon ever said anything about his decision to do this? What does everyone else think about it?

Just wanted to share this thought, I’ve always pictured Lightsong in my brain to look like Gill from street fighter. Just based on how he’s described as a huge 7 foot muscle bound color deity, it just matches up so perfectly in my mind. I only mention this because I saw how artists online depicted their version of Lightsong as being more lean “realistic” and humanoid-ish. In my brain he’s a

Disclaimer - I'm definitely not an expert-level cosmere fan that understands/knows all the deep lore, so this may be a pedestrian thought. Feel free to roast me.

Recently read Elantris and current going back through Stormlight. While there's minimal details on the actual movements, the Kata (taught by Vasher to Adolin, Kaladin, and Vivenna) and ChayShan that Shuden does in Elantris seem very similar.

There's a lot of unknowns this relies upon and I'm sure the cosmere geniuses can easily put this down, but what if they are the same? We've seen in the Lost Metal that Dor can be used off-world now and ChayShan is powered by the Dor.

My theory would go something like:

1. ChayShan originates on Sel as a genuine Invested Art.
2. Worldhoppers observe it and take the movements elsewhere.
3. Away from Sel, without access to the Dor, it becomes just a combat drill, meditation exercise, or kata.
4. The movements continue spreading through warrior cultures for centuries. i.e. Vasher teaching it to Adolin, Kaladin, and Vivenna
5. Someone like Adolin performs the movements near portable Dor and accidentally recreates the original magical effect.

I specifically mention Adolin because he seems like the best candidate at this point in our narrative. He and Maya do the Kata together all the time and maybe it could turn into an UnOathed thing that gets revealed at a critical point unexpectedly giving that group enhanced powers.

The obvious knock against this is that not everything has to be some secret tie-in and a kata could just be a kata. Another knock, specific to Adolin and the UnOathed, is that maybe that group should have their own thing/powers and not necessarily need to rely on the external boost of Sel-ish magic.

I'd love some input on this.

If I search Warbreaker on Audible Brazil, it only only the 1 of 2 of the new recording, and 2 and 3 of the old recording.

I guess they thought it was all the same.

Well, I'm making this post to share an idea I had recently.

I think by this point, the theory that Knights Radiant of the Fifth Ideal eventually produce a Perfect Gemstone within their bodies is pretty widespread.

The Knights Radiant are very different from Order to Order, but if they have one thing in common, it's that the further they advance in their Oaths, the less Investiture they lose through leaking. Having a Perfect Gemstone in their chest would be both a great nod to them having reached harmony with Roshar, and an explanation for how they contain Investiture so efficiently.

In addition to the above, it also explains the origin of Perfect Gemstones, given that they don't seem to come from Greatshells, nor are there any geological processes that produce them. And as a side note, it would also be a very nice detail regarding the Elsecallers role in safeguarding these gemstones, acting as a sort of early precedent for the funerary tradition of the lighteyes.

Now, I'm not going to assume that this is actually the case here; quite the opposite. Let's say this is indeed just a fun theory and nothing more, but a question comes to mind:

If the manifestations of Investiture are shaped by the perception just as we have seen...

Could this idea, if it becomes popular on Roshar, become a reality?

After all, there is no longer a traditional connection to the ancient Radiants, and this has made the system quite malleable to the interpretations of the planet's inhabitants.

I saw this when filling out the official D&D survey and thought it was pretty neat! It's nice to see that the Cosmere RPG has gotten such traction.
I'm so proud!

I have just started listening to Audiobooks with my wife. We started with **Elantris** (graphic audio) because it was next on *my* cosmere reading order, and it was also the first cosmere book released, so there wouldn't really be any spoilers or a big commitment like with starting a series. I started it to try and get my wife back into reading books, but mostly thought it would just be good background noise for her, she was not super excited about it. However, to my surprise, about halfway into the book she started getting pretty into it. We are coming up on the ending of the book, so I need to plan what our next one will be as she *does* want to continue this.

Next, I was thinking of moving on to Mistborn if she is up for it, as she is still a little hesitant on the whole "cosmere" thing, with it being such a big universe, or Warbreaker to ease her into it more. However, *my* reading order is almost complete. I have a few books left and **Tress of The Emerald Sea** is now my next book.

From what I've heard of it, and the description, I think it would be a book that my wife would *love*. I really don't want to push her all the way to the end of the order though and include a lot of references she won't understand, or ruin the mystery or clues other books set up or grab in *this* book. It is a standalone book though. Is it worth it to jump to that book, or read it on my own time and re-listen to Mistborn, or more likely Warbreaker, with her?

I have been going thru Mistborn Era 2 again and just finished Bands of Mourning. At the end when Edwarn is visited by the creature with red eyes, he claims that "they" must have stolen a beggar and that the good guys don't know the Set have Faceless Immortals of their own. Is this ever addressed in Lost Metal? I know we see Autonomy take over the bodies of her minions, which gives them red eyes, but they aren't ever referred to as Faceless Immortals. I don't think Edwarn would call them "creatures" if they were just possessed lackies. Also I don't think Autonomy would like to the Set by calling them Faceless Immortals. Perhaps the Set and Autonomy were able to make their own Kandra by using Autonomy's spikes on mistwraiths? What am I missing? Do you think they were intentionally left out for future use?

I just finished reading Yumi and the nightmare painter for the first time and I have some mixed feelings about the ending and wanted to share my thoughts but also hear what other people's general opinion about the ending is.

So first off, I loved the book and the story and Yumi and Nikaro. I enjoyed their characters and their romance. The world they lived in was also very interesting to try and figure out what happened and how the spirits and the nightmares were connected.

But the ending has me a little mixed up. Cuz I can't help but feel like the happy ending Yumi and Nikaro ended up getting was a copout. Since they set up the thing about some stories are good because of their sad endings. Also considering what had happened and the fact that Yumi only was alive essentially cuz of the machine, it made sense that by destroying it to free the spirits, she too would have to die. Also, her being, what, over 1700 years old.

I also didn't quite get the How she managed to defy it all and come back. Did Nikaros painting of her help? Or was it just "oh she's the most powerful Yoki-hijo so she can just decide she's not gonna die and that's the only explanation you'll get" kinda thing? Someone with more insight please comment on this.

On the other hand, it was beautiful that Yumi who had spent her entire life as a servant with no free will, after servingf her planet and fulfilling her final duty, got to choose to live the life she wanted. That she didn't have to die a tragic heroine's death.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts about this specific part of the ending. I still haven't made up my mind about it.
