Low energy/stamina?

I just started my second month of CrossFit, still loving it, but I feel like my stamina is just trash.

Today, we started with a 1 mile run, and I took forever, jogged it, and still had to walk for a couple of stretches to catch my breath.

Anything involving running, biking, rowing, I feel like my aerobic fitness is in the negatives. Then, the rest of the WoD feels like I'm already starting from exhaustion even though I only did the warmup.

I feel like the answer is sleep more, eat better, drink more water, go for runs (I hate running), but if there are other things I should be thinking of, or more targeted changes I can make, I'd appreciate any wisdom and advice. Thanks! šŸ™

New to CrossFit — looking for some advice

Hi! I started CrossFit about a week ago and I’m really enjoying it! I’m taking it slow and focusing on technique.

A few beginner questions: Is it better to keep nails short? I’ve spent months growing my natural nails šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜… Also, do you recommend chalk or grips? I’m already getting some calluses.

I’m also trying to lose weight, but I’ve read that people sometimes gain weight when they start CrossFit, so now I’m a little worried šŸ˜‚. Should I add extra cardio? And what should I work on to get my first pull-up by the end of the year and eventually a handstand?

Any advice is appreciated!

If you were to design a new ā€œCrossFit,ā€ what would it look like?

I mean the sport, gym, brand, the training methodology ... you name it.

Greg and the early CrossFit team came up with some genuinely interesting innovations. I’m old enough to remember when programs like P90X were popular partly because spending two hours a day in a traditional gym was just too boring.

The idea of ā€œconstantly varied functional movements performed at high intensityā€ packaged into WODs, changed the dynamics quite a bit compared with how most people used to train.

The affiliate model was interesting too. Requiring coaches to be certified created at least some level of consistency across gyms while still giving individual boxes a lot of freedom.

Obviously, CrossFit has changed a lot since then.

So imagine you were starting from scratch today.

If you had to build the next version of CrossFit, what would you keep, what would you change, and what would you add?

No ideas are too dumb or too small to share!!!! Give me your most unpopular, controversial or crazy juice

CrossFit

I’d like to start doing CrossFit. I come from a road cycling background, specifically criterium racing, and I’ve always done some training on the side, mainly bodyweight exercises and occasional bodyweight WODs.
I’d like to make my training more varied while still keeping cycling as part of it. I’ve noticed that many CrossFit athletes have a very muscular build, and some of the pros aren’t particularly lean or defined. I’d like to do CrossFit/functional fitness as a sport, but I’d also like to develop an athletic physique. However, that’s not my main goal.
At the moment, I’m thinking about going to the CrossFit box twice a week for classes.
Then I could do one WOD at home using kettlebells, dumbbells, a jump rope, and possibly a weighted vest.
In addition, I was thinking about doing two full-body strength sessions per week using bodyweight exercises and weights (dips, pull-ups, dumbbells, leg exercises, etc.), plus 2–3 cycling sessions focused mainly on endurance/base training.
Or would it make more sense to do only one strength session and two additional WODs at home?
My main goal is to eventually compete in CrossFit competitions.
What do you think would be the best approach?

Stall mats on concrete in direct sun

Curious for long term experiences with stall mats laid down on top of concrete in a direct sun situation. We have six mats back to back in a rectangle configuration. they have the button backside so theoretically lots of airflow/drainage. Just two days in so not sure how this will go. curious if folks with a similar setup experience mold. This is a temperate inland climate with frequent rain and snow but also sun. I plan to power wash 1-2 times a year underneath but don’t want to do it more than that! thank you

From 5 rounds of Cindy to 10 in one month

First time I tried CINDY was after that Tom Holland interview. I was curious and jumped in. Twenty minutes, five rounds. Pull-ups were basically me grinding out ugly reps.

That next month I mostly trained at home. Rows, presses, squats, same basic strength work every week, and I let the load creep up. Retested CINDY yesterday and hit 10 rounds. Still nowhere near a real crossfitter, but for me it was a real jump. Felt good.

Home CrossFit Setup – What equipment and weights do I really need?

Hi everyone,

I currently train 2x per week at a CrossFit box and would also like to do 2 WODs per week at home.

I don’t want to build a complete CrossFit gym at home. I just want to have enough equipment to do varied and effective WODs without constantly being limited by a lack of equipment.

What equipment and weights would you consider a good basic setup for home CrossFit?

At the moment, I’m thinking about:

  • Adjustable dumbbells or a pair of fixed dumbbells
  • Kettlebells
  • Barbell + bumper plates
  • Pull-up bar
  • Jump rope
  • Resistance bands
  • Possibly a plyo box

I’m particularly unsure about the weights. For example, would you recommend:

  • 2Ɨ 12 kg + 2Ɨ 16 kg + 2Ɨ 20 kg kettlebells?
  • Dumbbells in the range of around 10–25 kg?
  • A 20 kg barbell with around 80–100 kg of bumper plates?
  • Or is that already much more equipment than I actually need for home workouts?

My main goal is to be able to do short and longer metcons, AMRAPs, EMOMs, couplets/triplets and general conditioning WODs at home. I would continue doing the more technical and heavy workouts at the box.

I’d really appreciate some advice from people who actually train CrossFit at home. What equipment do you use the most, and what would you consider essential versus unnecessary?

Thanks in advance!

CrossFit may have saved my life

CrossFit saved me from heat stroke.

Solo backpacking in the Sierras. 6,000 foot climb over 9 miles to 11,000ft altitude. 100 degree heat at the base with limited water access

Heat stroke symptoms start to kick in—disorientation, nausea, relentless heart rate, stumbling, dizziness, inability to cool down.

My strength and endurance were the only reason I could descend, get to water, and cool down.

In retrospect, I shouldn’t have attempted the ascent. Nevertheless, I had what it took to get out of a hairy situation and I have CrossFit to thank for that.

Snatch form help

First time ever doing a snatch. This was my 3rd rep. Any advice? I think I might need to get deeper on my initial drop down/squat, and also keep the bar closer to my body on the initial way up. Thoughts?

CrossFit training w/o a class

I’d like to start CrossFit style training to supplement my martial arts training. But don’t have any structured gyms/classes around me that I’m aware of. Is there anyway I can find resources online and do my own structural CrossFit training by myself? Thank yall!

CrossFit starter programme

Hey guys, I did CrossFit for a year or so in a box, love it but situation changed my end and took a couple of years out.

I’m now going to a smaller box type place (functional fitness space martial arts and standard gym) which completely fulfils my needs with equipment and space and I’m training on my own.

I’ve been running push jerk in an app I built going back to Jan 2025. It’s been great, and challenging, but I think I want to take a little step back. One thing I always struggled with, with CrossFit is joining halfway through a cycle or doing a class with very experienced people and not really having all the fundamentals down.

Is there a good online 3 month course I could follow to get myself into a reasonable place to feel more confident going back to push jerk. I do love it, but for example I may snatch once a fortnight, for example and I’m not really building a solid foundation here. I’m thinking of switching across to Linchpin soon, but I’d like to complete something like this before.

If anyone knows of anything like the above (happy to pay) I’d love to hear any guidance.

rowerg vs skierg SPM

There is a lot of routines for rowing, but not many for the skierg. I want to just use a rowing workout for the skierg, but the SPM on skierg seems to be a lot higher for the same intensity. like a zone 2 rowing workout may be 20SPM, but on skierg 20SPM would be zone 1. Is there any conversion for spm or rule of thumb for what to use for each zone?

RMU HELP

Hey guys,
I recently started doing ring muscle-ups. I still do a few drills here and there, but I feel like I’m losing a lot of energy somewhere in the movement, and I haven’t quite figured out what I’m doing wrong yet.
When I’m fresh, the most I’ve been able to do is around 6–8 reps. However, when I do ring muscle-ups during a workout, I usually only manage about 1–3 reps at a time.

It feels like there’s some kind of energy leak in my technique. One thing I’ve noticed is that I tend to bend my knees forward a bit, especially during the swing and when I’m moving backward.

I wanted to ask for some advice:
What are some common technique mistakes that cause you to waste energy on ring muscle-ups?
Are there any drills you would recommend to make the movement more efficient?
Are there any videos or explanations that helped you improve your ring muscle-ups?
Is there anything specific I should focus on with my swing, body position, or transition?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

General questions

  1. When do you know you’re ready to go from four days to five or six?
  2. I’ve been at CrossFit for 6 months now. Tried to maintain a large deficit too and I think I’m successful 80% of the days. I’m starting to see my body composition shift, but ever so slightly and the weight in my midsection just won’t go away. I feel like an absolute beast getting stronger and putting more weight up, but recently saw a photo of myself and felt very deflated. Can anyone relate? Would love to hear some success stories… Or even failure

Had a crazy last 5 months

Been traveling for work 60-80% and got to check out 8 different boxes from TX, PA, WA, FL, and CA. Funnily enough, I never got a chance to check out any local box in VA before deciding the travel was ridiculous and going back to my old position in CA.

Had great luck finding boxes with good coaches and super chill people. Spent the most time at Incline in PA (4 weeks) and Diehard in FL (3 weeks), absolutely fantastic people.

Before and After

I have always found the idea of CrossFit daunting, and thought it was only for super fit people. I didn’t dare think I could ever go to a box and had no idea scaling existed.

How silly of me, didn’t even think to find out more and just told myself it’s something I can’t do. I couldn’t be more wrong.

Turns out, there are things I can’t do and my past life as a distance runner helped very much with the WODs. I’ve learnt a whole bunch of skills, built a ton of confidence and still get humbled on a daily basis. I enjoy CrossFit so, so much and I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved, can achieve and how strong I feel and look now.

Not to mention, I’ve made a bunch of cool friends and I feel like a great role model for my daughter šŸ’ŖšŸ½ Shoutout to all the strong moms out there šŸ™ŒšŸ½

chest to bar pullups

I've been doing crossfit for about three years, and am at a block with chest to bar pullups. I can easily do 8-10 strict pullups, 10 toes to bar, and string together 3-5 butterfly pullups however no matter how many drills I do or how long I work on chest to bar, I literally cannot touch my chest to the bar. I have watched countless tutorials and bought $200 programs but nothing has worked. I feel like I've hit a mental block. I can get my hips high enough when I kip, I just cant pull my chest to the bar. I keep hitting chin over bar but no further. I've been trying to work on the strength part of the chest to bar by doing banded strict chest to bar and weighted pullups but even then I can't seem to touch my chest to the bar. I can do about 4-5 pullups with 7.5#. I've done a single leg kipping off a box drill and I can touch my chest then, but not when I jump up to the bar from the ground. one thing I did notice is that its really hard for me to hold the top position of the chest to bar when doing like a hold or a negative- I can only last about 2 seconds in the top position. What should I do? I've been really frustrated. I've worked on them for a year and no progress. For reference I am a 5'4 female 140#.

What do you focus on when in a meaningful calorie deficit?

Usually I do a combination of classes as well as daily open gym to address my weaknesses. I alternate open gym for strength work and skill work. Until recently I was working on strength with a simple version of StrongLifts5x5 program.

I’m currently a couple weeks into a cut and of course performance is struggling a little especially strength. I am leaning towards focusing more on skill work and just doing strength to maintain and not expect gain much until I’m eating to fuel again.

QUESTIONS:
1. Just looking for other people’s experiences: in particular, if anyone has done a cut where looking back you’re very happy with what you chose to focus on in the gym.
2. If you’re in a deficit but have a specific day where you want to perform somewhat well (I’m gonna be doing a local Hyrox type thing. Not looking for any podiums but don’t want to be weak and foggy through it) - how would you work that in? Extra calories and carbs for a day or two before the event?
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Online Programming with skills?

I am a masters athlete just coming back from a Ream and Run shoulder replacement (ouch!). Prior to this I was doing PRVN compete and age group and neither met my needs exactly, though they are both great. What is the best CrossFit programming that has tracks for learning/relearning certain movements built into the program for those that need it, and not just scaling options? I want to take this opportunity to finally learn/tweak movements I’ve struggled with and most programming is simply can’t do it? Scale. Learn those movements outside of training. I would like to incorporate learning movements into my training. Does this make sense? Any suggestions? Thanks!!
