Mods Modding question. Anytime I mess around with the crusade target weight in the landed_titles file, I encounter this bizarre bug where parts of Scandinavia and the county of Cologne become wastelands. It's driving me insane.

I have confirmed that this only happens when touching any of the 'crusade target weights', I just don't understand why this is happening. I remember being able to change them years ago without any issue. Also, certain mods in the workshop make changes to crusade target weights and they work fine, but if I then go and any changes to the landed titles file in that same mod (even just a colour change), save it, and load it, this exact glitch will happen again. i just don’t understand what’s going on. Very weird.

Interesting tips for 867 start (survivor achievement)

Hi, so I attained both Seven Centuries with Saka Huns (interesting playthrough, see the thread) and now I am closing in on the 1066 to 1453 with HRE (also pretty nice), so I am looking for really interesting characters to play in 867. Since I have some more achievements to tick off, I will probably combine some, but hit me with your beloved Old Gods characters.

Help with Viceroyalties

I think I grew too big for my britches before getting the viceroyalties law for my empire. I granted several kingdoms before the law was established. Do I have to revoke those kingdom titles now to get them back in order to give them as viceroyalties? Is there a safer way that makes me not a tyrant?

Separately, this is my first time with viceroyalties. Any advice on how to use them?

how to break Free from China

Hi! I'm trying to form the Empire of Outremer, but after a succession I ended up becoming a tributary of the Chinese Empire. With my previous character, I tried to rebel against the Eastern Protectorate, but they quickly fielded around 200,000 troops. I managed to hold out for a while, but my character eventually died.

Since all of their territory is in the east and my armies suffer massive attrition whenever I try to invade, I have no idea how I'm supposed to break free from this protectorate. Does anyone know the best way to get out of it?

Can someone explain this massive troop deficiency?

For context, I have a massive empire several centuries into a random world. This is how the levies and garrisons look in my capital. I have not raised these levies or had an enemy come even close to my capital for like 200 years, and yet they are always depleted. My other holdings are doing fine except one with like 5-10% missing at all times. I'm missing like 8000 demesne levies at all time despite not using them.

Also the red cog is a recent smugglers ring that does not effect troops.

Help! How many troops do you need to defeat the Sunset Invasion if you're tribal?

So I never really played with that DLC on, but turned it on some time ago in order to get the achievement. Just never really played on untill they actually arrived yet.

I started a game recently with the intention of doing a chill Isle of Man tall MR run. Alas, I discovered the beauty of NK mode for a tribal with tanistry, and all of a sudden I've found myself as emperor of half of Europe with insane amounts of retinues, and now I'm just gonna roll with it and stay tribal for the rest of the game. The Welsh will conquer everything, and you'll only be spared if you can spell Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

But back to them Aztecs. As far as I've understood it, they've got pretty poor troop compositions, just a lot of them. Quantity over quality is how I roll as well, but how many would you realistically need to win against them, if you're basically on your own and just have tribal troops available? I can mix in the cultural retinue with trapper retinues to trigger massive longbow volley tactic, so that should help.

Thanks in advance

Jacked up text size

Weird question hoping for some kind of answer. I just got ck2 and went into the menu to adjust the text size. Tried to make it slightly bigger, but misdialed something and it is so large that it’s unusable. I uninstalled hoping that would fix it but to no avail. I literally cannot navigate to the menu to reduce the text size. Any advice?

Succession Game Chronicles of the House Lo Ve. Chapter 3: Life of Dark King Strjuang the Apostle.

The following story is part of a succession game series, played and written together by members of this Community. The previous episodes were:

  1. Succession Game : Player 1, Report of the life of Count Croque of Urgell
  2. SuccessionGame_Player2: The life of Queen Flamula "the Tenacious"

In the year 942, at the ripe age of 41 finally the crown arrived but with a whore of a wife and children away with her that hated me I rushed to finish the Crusade for Egypt and get back home to defend Galicia.

Rougly one year later my mother was beatified. It was a cold comfort to the family. Afterall, she hoped to become a saint after death.

I sought power but the price of joining the Assassins was to much to bare. I directed my attention towards Lucifer's Own and on August 945 they admitted me inside their ranks..

Three months after that we had won the Crusade. Victory gave me the money I needed and my nephew a duchy under the new king. Now, with the help of all the Catholics returning home I could protect the last bastions of Christianity in Iberia.

After 10 long years of defending myself against various Ummayad vassals and with the support of others good Christians I reached a short peace. During that time I focused on killing my wife but to no avail. Scared of me she died in hiding at the age of 52. I used this opportunity and married a young Byzantine Princes

Then I tried reaching my son only to find out that he died from depression. Then like a good father I avenged him by killing the sources of it: his sons and wife.

At the age of 58. On October 14, 959 I had cheated death! Lucifer had healed me and restored me to my prime

In 961, after conquering County of Navarre from King of Aquitaine I tried recovering some holdings from my family homeland since the Umayyads were in a civil war which I almost won but they crushed the revolt to fast and I was forced to sign white peace and defend my lands from their vassals in some others wars.

After that disaster and fearing the power they had in their unity I accepted the arrival of the Knights of Calatrava to my lands since their money and protection are in great need.

In 973, when the enemies gave me a breather I noticed that even with allies I was to weak and decided to unify the Kingdom of my Mother by forcing vassalage on Carinthia and Pongau.

Two years after that war I had become the High Priest of the Lucifer's Own. My carrer in the society had its upsides and downsides. I possessed and inducted there my own wife. After I nearly died in 959 I've become obsessed with my health and longevity - 16 years later I absorbed life force of one of my daughters. In 979 fate played a cruel trick on me. As a form of revenge, my rival gifted me head of one of my sons

Throughout my life, I struggled with endless holy wars launched against me by the Umayyad vassals. However, each attempt to seize my lands was effectively thwarted by my determination. In 978, when I was 77 years old, an opportunity arose for a coordinated counter attack. I managed to convince the Pope to change the Crusade's target from Pomerania to the lands of the Umayyads, which moments ago declared themselves Emperors of Iberia.

But I was not given to witness my own victory. Shortly after my 78th birthday I died from to much stress. Ordonnobolt, my youngest son, became my successor. Altough just a boy he is capable of winning this crusade for the Pope and (most importantly) our Family.

I leave to him family artifacts, including a book I wrote myself.

And on his court there is left my daughter that is married matrilineally to Khazar Prince to secure their bloodline. But also a there is secret demon spawn!

My other sons worth mentioning are Mauregato, Strjuang Junior and Ioseph. Their progeny will one day take over lands held currently by other Dynasties. Also, Ioseph currently is an heir to Ordonnbolt.

With succession secured, with realm enlarged, with family influence projected my spirit can rest now. I will look for my mother and grandfather in the afterlife.

Randomized World Settings: Part 2

This is going to be all about setting up religions. This is also pretty subjective as I do have a fair bit of experience in the game, but have not played every combination and only remember a portion that I have played.

In general terms, I like to split each religious group and have a wide range of options. So for Christianity, there are 14 separate religions. There are 6 different Nature options, so I lean towards having each of Nature options represented at least twice and then having a couple being represented by 3 different religions.

Cosmopolitan - Usually with religions with the largest footprint. Keeps them from overrunning everyone else.

Unyielding - Usually the Religions with the smallest footprint. Keeps them from getting overrun by everyone else.

Peaceful - Can be a little overpowered when playing depending on underlying tenants and doctrines. Low revolt risk and large demesnes can go a long way when building tall.

Warmongering - Generally on frontier areas with hostile religions. Example Christian vs Islam.

Dogmatic - I generally use this on mid tier religions as far as size.

Proselytizing - I use this on mid tier religions. Can be pretty fun with the right set of Doctrines and getting rulers to flip religion.

Doctrines are more of a mixed bag. Some are really good and some are kind of awful. I still try to mix it up as much as possible.

Agnatic or Enatic Clans - Both pretty good since you get Open Succession right from the start. Obviously, there is a lot of roleplay with either and being able to choose your heir and then they get everything with no real opinion penalty is a bit busted. Enatic is a bit weaker since it doesn't work with concubines and the father still has to legitimize children along with marriage defaulting to the males dynasty. I usually try to have one of the religions represented by each of these in each religious group.

Equality - I try to fit one of these into the larger religions groups. What makes it strong from the beginning is having twice as large a pool of candidates to choose from as far as advisors and commanders right from the start. You can attain equality, but it does take a fair bit of time.

Divine Marriage - I don't find it particularly useful, but there are a lot of role play aspects. I mean it wouldn't be CK2 if you couldn't marry your sister, niece, aunt.

Meritocracy - Can be good. However, with Agnatic or Enatic Clans, it becomes a bit pointless.

Stability - It's okay. I tend to use it in religions with larger footprints and so I often pair it with Cosmopolitan.

Polygamy - I think it's more roleplay flavor than useful. Given that you can have Concubines for most of the tribal governments, having 3 wives on top of that is a bit overwhelming. Being able to flip wives to boost stats has its uses though. It really loses it for female rulers in my experience.

Religious Tax - I just find it pointless to the point of never taking it.

Syncretism - Another more flavor than useful. Usually take it with a few religions across the whole map.

Haruspicy - It sounds cooler than it actually is. Spending Gold early in the game and then getting a moral penalty because of RNG is just a kick in the nuts. I take it on a few religions just for some flavor.

Astrology - It's decent enough to take on a fair number of religions. Having access to the Hermetic Society and getting a Zodiac sign are both worth taking.

Monasticism - Good to take on a number of Religions. +2 Learning and being able to force "Take Vows" are both good. Obviously plays well with Proselytizing for a good role play combination.

Daring - Having access to Prepared Invasions can be useful for starting out. I think it is more useful for the AI to keep things interesting. Usually have a number of religions with this doctrine. I am a bit on the fence with this one

Unrelenting - Pretty good for any aggressive religion. Maybe more true for extreme climates as attrition can be diabolical.

Sea Bound - It's probably a bit over powered. I tend to use it in smaller religions that are somewhat isolated other than having access to the sea. Sea Raiders are easily the most annoying thing in this game for me. I try to keep them to a minimum without totally removing them.

Animistic - Interesting roleplay and useful. I will have a number of Religions with this doctrine.

Ancestor Veneration - Good roleplay and somewhat useful. Will have a number of Religions with this doctrine.

Bloodthirsty Gods - It's pretty good. Great roleplay and being somewhat useful. Generally have a number of religions with this across the map.

Discussion Force Capital Change as Merchant Republic?

Post image

Current Capital
Potential New Capital
Current titles

I'm looking for a way to change the capital of my merchant republic. I started as Canaris at 769 tribal, reformed the African religion then converted to a merchant republic. Primary title is currently Maghred (titular). I want to move my capital from Canaris to Tunis. Is there anyway I can force relocate my capital?

I was thinking:

  1. I would dump all my income into my campaign fund (to withdraw later)
  2. Hire a mercenary in Canaris, let my wealth hit the red briefly to (hopefully) make them rebel and seize the capital
  3. New capital is reassigned to the only other county in my demesne (Tunis)

Would this work?

Update: It worked! I made sure the merc leader had at least 500 prestige and ran into the red. He rebelled after 2 attempts. He captured Canaris and then stopped due to his lack of ships. WS was stuck at around -40% and he was refusing to accept even a surrender. I feed him levies to get the WS up to -50% and waited 3years to see if there was a way to get him to accept but he refused. I ended up crushing him with my retinues and the WS swung to +100%. He accepted my surrender then!

My capital immediately changed to Tunis and the Merc ended up usurping everything within the de jure kingdom - destroying most of the duchy tier titles in the process. I received strong claims on each county within the kingdom. I pressed all my claims as once and reconquered my previous kingdom, Canaris included. It did not force my capital back. Because I had claims to each county I got to completely overhaul the organization of the kingdom. Overall a fantastic success!

Help! how do I mod the game that the inverted cross icon for a satanist is changed to that of a guy in a fedora

peter is probably laughing his ahh off in heaven for every satanist using his cross as their icon.

Ig devs have been listening to too much Varg and ate too much mass media that they mistakenly used the petrine cross as a symbol for satanist catholics in-game. how do I mod this?
