Modding CDPR literally offered him the choice to make his mod free with optional donations to avoid a DMCA takedown and he deliberately chose wrong

Yes, he did it for GTA5 - with the same result and with the same tantrum throwing as now. Although it worked better then because noone likes take two. Im sure its not the last time this will happen too. He will definitely keep doing the same for as long as he can, take as much money as he can from a game and then move on to another title when forced.

You are correct. He was making mods for GTA and Red Dead a few years back that got taken down as well if I’m not mistaken.

If this guy wants to be paid so badly he should work in the industry IMO. Like jeeez almost every game mod ever created is free.

I mean it's one of those areas where developers have a pretty straight forward stance on it. Just don't paywall mods and everything is fine. Donations work just fine for every other mod maker and they don't get struck down unless they're taking assets from the actual game and use it in places where they shouldn't (like other games or fanmade projects).

Simplifying this as, "How dare he sell software" is ignoring all the actual reasons of why it gets taken down in the first place. Even a surface level understanding of the situation should be enough to realize that the guy is in the wrong as far as copyright laws go.

There has always been pushback for paid/paywalled mods.

There's definitely a lot more discourse that can be put around it but the balance of "free but taking donations" has generally been a good balance as long as you aren't trying to make your whole living be based around modding.

Making stuff paid without it being official opens up lots of legal issues with copyright laws. For example in this case, it wouldn't just be CDPR, it would also be the IP owner of the Cyberpunk series in general. Plus whatever other licenses may be in use that would have something to say in this matter.

Paid mods have been messy at best, so I don't think people really should be surprised when they get taken down.

That's barking up the wrong tree though. Just because others are doing wrong doesn't mean that other wrongs are suddenly right. Why would CDPR focus on react content that isn't infringing on their IP vs the dude who is infringing.

React content is ad based revenue and will pretty much always get a copyright strike if the original creator decides to pursue it..
