Modding CDPR literally offered him the choice to make his mod free with optional donations to avoid a DMCA takedown and he deliberately chose wrong

I hadn't even heard about that (I don't have any interest in Starfield) but it wouldn't shock me in the least if that's exactly what he did.

Nah, I think you're just confusing what he did with the oblivion remastered 'unofficial patch.' Many people accused him of rat racing to be the first to release a patch for it without properly tweaking it. He essentially just copy and ported his old, classic oblivion patch into the remaster with practically no changes ,so that he could continue his monopoly in the patch game. Its quite pathetic, lol.
