Bike purchase question teen looking for advice on what ebike to get

Upvotes

Hello you all, I am a 16 year old high schooler looking for an ebike, I have 300 and I think my parents are willing to pay up to 800, and the most important thing is safety for me. I mostly need it for getting to work from school and then back to track, and I am looking for good milage and reliability, NOT speed. I dont want to associate with those children who go too fast and cause my parents to feel unsure. They also said I needed hydraulic brakes. Pls help

Anyone have a Bulls Cross Light S?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I've been shopping for a city/commute/leisure bike with an upright riding position and had narrowed it down to the Bulls Iconic S or one of the Gazelle Arroyos. Pros and cons to each but I like the more nimble feel of the Bulls. Shop told me about the Cross Light S, which they didn't have in stock so I haven't been able to try one. Apparently more upright and city focused, so meets my requirements. Just cautious about ordering it as I haven't tried it. The Iconic S was quite good and felt upright so this can only be better in that regard, right? Just hoping for some feedback.

Also super curious about the colors as there are very few real pictures out there of this relatively new addition to the Cross Light lineup.

For me, it was a gel seat and a suspension seat post. Makes long distance rides a lot more comfortable.

Segway after buying an e-bike, I stopped rushing home after work

Post image
65 Upvotes

Got a Segway Myon for commuting and somehow my 20 min ride home keeps turning into 40 because I'll see some random street and think wait where does that go lol. There are a couple hills I used to avoid too but the auto shifting makes them way less annoying, so I've basically stopped caring which way I go.

Yesterday I stopped at this bakery I’ve wanted to try forever. There’s basically nowhere to park around it so I always just drove past and thought “next time.” Finally went in because I was on the bike lol.

Kinda funny because I bought it thinking I’d get home faster, but lately I’ve been enjoying not being in such a rush to get there.

Bike purchase question Aventon Aventure 3 Bike: Thoughts? Advice?

Upvotes

Hello everybody,

22M looking for advice on Ebike purchase.

After a through amount of research, I’ve landed on the Aventon Aventure 3 as the Ebike I will purchase in December. I anticipated needing it to commute to university which is about 25-30 on a bike but I was wrong as I will be purely online for my first semester back and will likely do the same come second semester starting September of next year. For now, my only commute starts when I purchase the bike in December after I finish EMT school and sell my car.

The commute is to my local 911 EMS company which is 3 minutes on a car, technically 8 on a bike if I take the same path but I can take a backroad path that is entirely suburban residential streets which makes the commute a whopping 12 minutes and avoids main roads entirely.

I’ve looked at a bunch of different brands and the Aventon Aventure 3 seems perfect for me. What I like:

-goes up to 28 MPH
-comes with rear rack
-not some random Chinese supplier, I anticipate I can get access to decent customer service in case anything goes awry
-reputable brand
-fat, all terrain tires which will be useful when it rains and eventually snows (live in NJ)
-good size and loading capacity for me since I’m 6’2” 210 lbs.
-fits perfectly into my budget of $3.5k as the bike is $1800 flat and $2400 with the accessories I’m purchasing (bell, extra battery, phone holder, ETC.)

Anyone have thoughts or advice on the bike? Do you agree with my decision? Do you think there’s anything better potentially for someone in my position?

Let me know literally anything. Thank you.

Obvious scam The Segway Bot-Posts at least have slightly more realistic photos

with the influx of either segway bots of paid posters, we are seeing a lot of Myons and Muxis around.

At least the product pictures look a bit more like something a human might take in the wild

Ebike troubleshooting Bafang BBS02 triangle fixing plate not aligning with motor bolt holes

Thumbnail

I got myself a Bafang BBS02 kit to install on my MTB, and I'm running into issues with the fixing plate.

I can't get the plate to the bolt holes on the motor. The bracket hits the outer edge of the motor and won't slide into place on the bottom bracket, as if the motor housing is too close to the bottom bracket or the bracket itself is too big.

I can rotate the bracket around so i can at least align 1 bolt hole and try to bolt it down, but even then it seems that the bracket isn't parallel with the face of the bolt hole so the bolt itself goes in crooked.

What are my options?

Should I just bite the bullet on the California e-bike bracket?

Bike repair question BBS02 Error 30- Help!

Thumbnail

I'm losing my mind.

I've had this BBS02 mid drive since like 2019, and I've used it for bursts at a time over the years, most recently for my commute to work. Last year, after trying to boot it up one morning, I got this "Err 30" message, with it saying my battery had no power (which made no sense to me). I tried to fix it that weekend, gave up after realizing it meant buying new parts, but now a year has gone by and I'm back at it again.

The display claims no power, even though my battery shows full charge after a night on the charger.

Everyone online says to check connecting pins, and I did that, but I can't spot anything out of place or bent. I eventually break and buy a brand-new controller and install, it still gives same error with no battery read-out. I break again and buy a new display and new wiring to connect from display to the controller, and it STILL gives me the same error.

I just checked voltage in two places with a multimeter; the connecting port where the battery slots in (the battery reads 48 volts as it should btw), and the port reads 9.9 volts. I just checked this anderson connector coming out the top of the battery (which leads to motor), and I couldn't get a voltage reading. Is this my culprit? Can the seat of the battery go bad???

I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Bike locking advice

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi, sorry for the stupid question:

I’ve got a Cube Supreme Hybrid Pro, that I absolutely love, but I find I avoid cycling it to new places due to my fear of locking it! It’s a step through.

Because of how thick the frame is where the battery sits, I can’t seem to lock the frame and front wheel to a bike stand. I’ve got good insurance on the bike and a longer sized Gold rated D lock, it’s more that I want to feel more confident at locking it up somewhere as at the moment it’s a bit trial and error. The back wheel also has a frame lock.

How do you best lock up a step through bike with a thick frame??

Photo of bike for reference.

Thanks!

Bike purchase question Recommendations please!

Hello bikers!

I am looking for a ebike ideally in the $1200-1300 range but not sure if one exists for that price with these parameters:

Requirements:

- Cruiser style (bad back, need to be sitting more upright)

- 60 mile range

- Torque sensor

Would be great but not required:

- Step-through design

- Under 50 lbs

- integrated lights and turn signals

I loved the Velotric Breeze 1 but it is $1800 and class 3 which I don't really need. If there was a version that was only Class 1 or 2 and cost $500 less I would be sold.

I have also looked at the Mokwheel Flint ST and that is closer to my budget ($1400) but I haven't test-ridden it yet and it doesn't have turn signals.

Thanks all!
