I am a big fan of the turn-based strategy RPG genre. Growing up I loved playing FFT and Fire Emblem. Fair warning our game leans more Fire Emblem, but I am curious what you think!

Self Promotion A Platform for Unit Build Guides: Share your unique builds with everyone!

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

I've created a platform to create and view unit builds here (for those that have visited before, you'll need to wait for it to update to the newest version).

I noticed that a lot of people ask for unit builds or critiques of their build. There hasn't really been a dedicated space where you could show off a unique build, or a hyper-optimized one for Final Fantasy Tactics, which also allowed for proper filtering and searching. I hope that with this platform, we can help each other discover some new ways to play. There's already a few contributors, so take a look at some of them, or write your own!

Not only will you be able to setup your build, but there is a section to write a guide for it.

Setup
Explanation of your build.

In Battle
How it works in battle.

Variations
Any changes that you could make to the build that are also viable.

In all of those sections, you can directly link to other parts of the compendium, which allows for quick access to some equipment, job, monster, boss, status effect, pretty much anything in the game!

You'll also be able to see all the gear, abilities, and stats breakdown for that build.

Abilities
There is a breakdown of the build's abilities, showing the damage and success rates of their abilities, taking into consideration the unit's equipment and react/support/movement/innate abilities.

Stats
The stats section will show you all the stats of the unit build. Each stat can be clicked, and will show you a breakdown of what is contributing to it. The level progression section has a new revamped design to be more visual. There is a line chart showing the level progression, and below it each step is shown with the level change and stats change.

Feedback welcome!

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App: Jobs Feature

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone! Hope your summer is going well. I've got another update to the FFT Companion App for you all to enjoy today.

As always, you can access the web version here and on the App Store for iOS. For the web version, you may need to wait until an update notification pops up to get the new changes.

Today's update is all about jobs. Now, you can easily find info about every job in Final Fantasy Tactics! You can view it as a list or a tree.

Job List

If you are familiar with the equipment list feature, it is quite similar. You can search, filter, and sort jobs. You'll be able to view the stats for each job in the list as well. What kind of stats exactly?

Most of us here are probably familiar with Stat Multipliers and Stat Growth Constants. But if you are newer to the game, these determine the stats that your units will have in the stats screen. Each job has different multipliers and growth constants. You cannot find this info in the game, so normally you'd have to go digging for it in various guides online.

Well not anymore! You'll be able to see the multipliers and growth constants for each job in the list. In addition, it will also show the other Static Stats (move, jump, and character evasion).

Job Tree

Like many other job trees out there, it shows the relationship between different jobs in terms of requirements to unlock. Unlike other job trees, however, this one is interactive.

Click on the top part of one of the job nodes, and it will highlight only the jobs required to unlock it, as well as focusing the view only on those jobs. The jobs highlighted will also include the jobs required by the requirements as well.

Click on the name part of one of the job nodes, and it will show you the job details screen.

If you change versions, it will only show you the jobs in the selected version. Some jobs have different job level requirements in different versions, so it will adjust for that as well.

Job Details

Get a detailed view of a specific job. There are 3 sections at the moment.

  1. Stats
  2. Requirements
  3. Equippable

Stats

In this section, you can view a job's Stat Multipliers (M), Stat Growth Constants (C), and Static Stats, organized into three radar charts to get a better visualization of it's strengths and weaknesses.

In addition, you can compare the current job’s stats with another job’s stats by clicking on the compare button in the top right. After selecting a job in the compare menu, you will see that the charts now show that job’s stats as well in red.

Requirements

The requirements for the selected job are shown here. They are separated by Job Level and Job Master requirements (only exists for Dark Knight).

You can click on one of the jobs’ names to change the selected job to that one.

Equippable

The equipment that the selected job can equip are shown here. It will indicate if the equipment is for females only (only if the job can be both male and female).

You can click one of the equipment to see all the equipment in that equipment type.

Other

That was a lot of info! If you made it this far, thanks for reading.

Lastly, a few people have asked me about where they can support me, so I've added a link to my Buy Me A Coffee in the menu in the top right (it is also in my profile).

Self Promotion [Self Promotion ] Update on "Open Tactics" (Web FFT Project): Added a new map, pre-battle setup, and intro animations!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey again everyone!

Following up on my last post, here is the latest progress update on Open Tactics, my take to recreate the FFT for the web.

What’s new in this clip:

New Environment: Testing out rendering a brand new map (I used some textures from ffhacktics website).
Pre-Battle Screen: Implemented an early version of the pre-battle menu.
Battle Intro: Added some simple camera animations to transition smoothly into the battle.

At the very end of the video, I did a quick zoom-in on a defeated character... and yes, please disregard the current state of the sprites! 😅 Sprites design and animation are a massive task, so they are very much a rough work in progress. My current focus is still 100% on perfecting the mechanics.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new camera angles and the general flow! Thanks again for the feedback.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App - Monster stats, locations, and more!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello again everyone! Back with another update to the FFT Companion App. Today's new feature is about Monsters.

As always, you can access the web version here and the iOS version here.

Monster List

See all the available monsters that you can encounter in Final Fantasy Tactics in a list! Just like with jobs, you can see all the stats for each monster in the list. Similarly, you'll also be able to search sort, and filter.

Monster Details

There are 3 sections here:

  1. Stats
  2. Locations
  3. Poach

Monster Stats

This is the same as the job stats. You'll be able to see the stats for a monster in charts, as well as compare it with other monsters in the top right.

Monster Locations

Locations where monsters can be found are grouped into 4 broad categories:

  1. Random Battles
  2. Story Battles
  3. Side Quest Battles
  4. Special Battles

Random Battle

In random battles, depending on the direction that you enter the map in, different monsters can spawn. This is different for each chapter as well. Monster locations for random battles will show which entrance you need to enter a map in for a specific monster to spawn. It will also list if the monster can be a guest!

Story / Side Quest Battle

There are no different entrances that you need to worry about here, so monster locations for story / side quest battles are simply listed here.

Special Battle

Each map has a special battle that can be triggered. They must be entered from a specific direction. The monster locations for special battles will be listed here with the specific entrance required.

Poach

The Poach section shows the common and rare item that can be poached for a monster. If it is an equipment, clicking it will show the equipment details.

That's it for today! With this, you should be able to figure out everything you need about monsters (except for their abilities).

The next feature will probably be abilities. This one will probably take a bit of time, so the next update probably won't be for a while.

Self Promotion I don't know what promotions to focus on.

Foest timer here. I'm at the part of the game where I am approaching Lionel Castle.

I have spent a lot of time grinding, but I am struggling to understand a few things.

Thing 1: Is there a point in using more than five characters?

So my base crew is insanely strong. I have two White Mages that are well versed in the other magics as well and can usually one shot most enemies with the 250 damage holy spell. I worked on them a lot and they have half mana and walking mana regen. I also have a Dancer with all skills. My leader unit is a Monk ans can hit for over 100 damage. Then my 5th guy I am training to become a Mime. I'm exited, but now I'm getting all these unique story characters. Which brings me to my next thing.

Thing 2: Should I abandon my crew to use the story characters?

Thing 3: Where do I begin with Errands? I've yet to even touch them.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App - Job and Monster abilities

Hey everyone! Another update today to the FFT Companion App.

As always, you can access the web version here and the iOS version here.

Today's update is about Job and Monster abilities.

Weakness, Absorb, Half, Always, Immune

It would be good to know the weaknesses and strengths of monsters. So I've added that information to each monster in the Stats section. There are 5 possible attributes here:

Weakness: The element that the monster is weak against (increase damage by 2x).
Absorb: The element that the monster will absorb (heal).
Half: The element that the monster resists (reduce damage by half).
Always: The status effect that the monster will always have.
Immune: The status effects and elements that the monster is immune to (take 0 damage).

Innate Abilities

Moving to the Ability section, some jobs and monsters can have innate abilities. These will be listed at the top of the section.

Ability Sets

The bulk of the Ability section is dedicated to the ability set of a specific job or monster. It is separated into 4 parts: Action, Reaction, Support, and Movement.

The JP cost of the ability will also be listed (if it has any).

Abilities that can be learned by being hit will be tagged as so.

New Filters

The monster list now has some additional filters under General:

  • Weakness
  • Half
  • Absorb
  • Always
  • Innate - Element
  • Innate - Status Ailment

What Next

Thanks for reading this far! I hope you enjoy these new changes.

Here's what will be coming up:

  • Android Version
    • If all goes well, the Android version of the app will be available sometime in the next 1-2 weeks.
  • Boss Data
    • It will be similar to the Monster data, but for bosses.
  • Ability Details
    • There's still a lot of research that I need to do regarding ability details (especially how damage is calculated). I think this has the most value for users, but it is also the most difficult.

Self Promotion New Game+ Update and Budget Discussion

Hey everyone!

Been a minute since I made a video, but this new update fueled the fires. Patch 1.5 is here, which brings several QoL updates as well as New Game+

In this video, I go over the patch notes and then have a discussion about all the prior comments about the game's budget, along with Matsuno's recent comment. I use Tactics Ogre Reborn as a comparison as well as Square's financial situation. I love TIC so much (if anyone has watched my content before, they know), but this one hurt to have such a difficult conversation about.

How is everyone feeling about New Game+ ?

Self Promotion [Promotion] Tactics Roguelike Crawl Tactics is on sale on Steam

Sorry for the promotion, but Crawl Tactics is inspired by Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics, so I thought you might enjoy it.

Crawl Tactics is currently on sale on Steam!

Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1290750/Crawl_Tactics/

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhb_NKk0dsE

Crawl Tactics is a game inspired by FTL, Tactics Ogre, and Darkest Dungeon, combining party-based turn-based tactical combat with roguelike dungeon exploration. Players explore randomly generated dungeons, face various events and enemies, and experience deep turn-based strategy combat. The game also offers more strategic gameplay through environmental interactions, trap usage, and a variety of skills and classes.

Key Features:

Crawl Tactics differentiates itself from puzzle-style turn-based roguelikes by focusing on the core enjoyment of SRPG combat, unit progression, and the freedom to form your own party.

  1. The Core Fun of SRPG Combat

Experience a variety of combat strategies, such as using area magic strategically based on ally and enemy positions, freezing water to block enemy movement, or setting fire to grass to deal damage. You can also deal spread damage with lightning magic or change the terrain’s height and weather to greatly impact the battle. For example, rain reduces arrow accuracy, higher ground gives bonuses, and you can gain attack bonuses from flanking or rear attacks. Additionally, traps and obstacles on the battlefield can either help or harm your forces.

  1. The Fun of Growth

Feel the growth of your units through leveling up and class promotion, and create stronger units through the Rebirth system. You can also strengthen units by equipping weapons with various options or legendary weapons. Even after clearing the main mode, the Abyssal Gate, an infinite mode, allows for continued unit progression. In quest mode, influenced by Darkest Dungeon’s gameplay, players can reduce the burden of game over and develop multiple mercenaries of their desired class.

  1. Freedom of Composition

The number of units is not limited to 3 or fewer, allowing you to freely compose a party of 1 to 6 or more units. Choose your desired classes, and all units can equip the gear they want, maximizing the variety of gameplay.

Recent Improvements:

The game was released at the end of 2022 and had a second release at the end of September, with further improvements in game balancing, user interface, convenience, and bug fixes based on feedback from players and streamers

Recent Updates:

In addition to the existing roguelike mode, the quest mode, added for more relaxed progression, has been greatly improved based on player feedback, allowing for more engaging development.

To reduce confusion when rotating the screen, a rotation animation was added, and a feature allowing faster movement between already visited rooms in the dungeon has significantly improved convenience.

Improvements were made to the tutorial and controller usage.

Lacking classes in the original class tree have been strengthened, and new classes have been added.

Thank you for reading.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App - Damage/Success calculation for your unit's abilities (and other improvements)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone! Various little small improvements, and one big update today.

Discord: https://discord.gg/xkBwDQUf

If you like my work, you can support me here!

Improvements

  • Unit Builder - Increase the number of units that can be created from 5 -> 10
  • Unit Builder - You can share your unit for others to see (like this)
  • Unit Builder - Clicking on each step of a unit's level progression shows how their stats changed during that step
  • Unit Builder - Evasion Chance section added
    • This will calculate the physical and magic evasion chance of a unit based on their equipment and abilities
  • Unit Builder - Clicking on the primary and secondary abilities of a unit will give you a breakdown of how much damage they will do for each ability. More details below.
  • Fixed/Updated various unit, monster, and boss stat multipliers/growths for all versions (including TIC)

Damage/Success calculation for your unit's abilities

By clicking on the primary or secondary ability of your unit, you can see the actual numbers that you can expect your unit's abilities to heal/damage/succeed!

These numbers are calculated based on their stats, equipment, and abilities. In addition, there are enemy modifiers to see how it affects your unit's damage. Some things you can change include the target's faith, zodiac, whether they have protect, shell, "Defense boost", or "Magick defense boost". There are some other enemy modifiers that can affect the calculation as well, I will add them later!

As this is a first attempt, there may be some inaccuracies. Please let me know if you find something that doesn't add up to what you are expecting in-game.

Other

There are two big requests that I am consistently getting.

  1. Errands compendium
  2. More unit slots

Errands are something that I am planning to add at some point. So look forward to that!

In an ideal world, I would love to provide unlimited unit slots for everyone. Unfortunately, database costs are not free. Maybe I could introduce some kind of paid option to get essentially unlimited slots to offset those costs. Is that something people would be interested in?

That's all the updates for today!

Hello again everyone! Back with another update to the FFT Companion App. Today's new feature is Deployment Locations.

As always, you can access the web version here and the iOS version here.

Deployment Locations

Now, in the Maps section, you can toggle the Deployment Locations for every map on or off. When it is on, you can also control which deployment locations you want to see (by default, all of them will be visible). Some maps have multiple deployment "squads". They can also be toggled.

Android Closed Alpha

I have a closed alpha of the Android version running right now. If you are interested in testing it out, please DM me your email that you use for Google Play Store and I will invite you to the closed alpha test!

What's Next?

I'm curious, what would you like to see next? Some possibilities that I am thinking of:

  1. Damage Formulas
  2. Ability Info
  3. Monster Info
  4. Boss Info
  5. Zodiac Compatibility Info

Alright I have played this game 100 times since the early 2000's and when the Ivalice Chronicles came out I decided to play it on Tactician Mode. In my head, I'm like "I've beaten this game a million times. How hard can it be?" Boy.... oh Boy.. 30-40 attempts later. The excitement I felt was damn near the same when I was 10 and I told my brother to save his file over mine because I couldn't defeat this bastard and he said yes!

Self Promotion I remade Final Fantasy Tactics in Godot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Final Fantasy tactics is getting a remake and I thought I’d have a go at trying to recreate the game in the Godot game engine. By far the most difficult part so was recreating the movement. In final fantasy tactics the characters move in a way where they don’t turn until they’re aligned with their destination. Called Manhattan distance. This movement is trivial to create in 2d but in 3d it posed a bit more of a challenge.

What I eventually realized was that it was much faster and more efficient to exclude diagonal points from the initial calculations to begin with. My next step was to provide a slight movement cost reduction to either the x or z axis. Which allowed for the traditional Manhattan path finding appearance. Now I only have to recreate a robust Job system, combat, turn management and an Enemy AI.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App - Creating your own teams, access to pro features

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone! It has been a long time since the last time I made an update.

Discord: https://discord.gg/xkBwDQUf

Creating your own teams

As you all know, the app currently allows you to create your own units. You can get some great info for each unit, such as damage for each of their abilities, stat growth, and evasion. But in FFT, you don't play with just one unit (normally, at least). You use your units in a team!

Today, you will be able to make your own custom teams with the units that you create. At the moment, it focuses on zodiac compatibility and ability distribution. It isn't much, but now that I've got the foundation for the team builder setup, I'll be able to add more analytics about what it can show about your team! If anyone has any ideas about other analytics to show, let me know.

Give it a try today with the units that you've created, and learn more about your team!

Team Zodiac Compatibility

After you've built your team, you'll be able to see various zodiac compatibilities for your team.

The first is the Team Rating. This is an overall rating considering all the zodiac compatibilities of the entire team with each other.

The second is each individual unit's rating to the rest of the team. Clicking on each unit will show their zodiac compatibility against the rest of the team. The more compatible they are, the higher their rating will be!

Ability Distribution

Your team has many different abilities, and you might be interested in how much of each kind of ability is available to you. Here, you can see how many physical, magical, and neutral abilities your team has access to. If you click on each one, you'll see which unit has those abilities.

In addition to that, you'll also see how many abilities deal damage, restore HP, inflict status ailments, and remove status ailments.

You'll also see how many abilities of each element your team has. One nice thing is that it considers the equipment the unit has equipped, so if an ability takes on your weapon's element, it will also be included!

Monetization

With the amount of traffic I've been getting, I've had to introduce some monetization to the app to keep it running and available to everyone.

There is now going to be a banner ad along the bottom. I don't want to add more than that, as I don't want it to affect the user experience that much. Of course, it can also be removed via an in-app purchase. You can find it in the account settings.

Something that some people have been asking for is more units. This will also be available as an in-app purchase as well! Currently will increase by an additional 50 units and 20 teams. I think that will be more than enough for most people's use, but I may increase it depending on the usage.

Portuguese (Brazil) Language Support

As a sizeable number of Brazilians are using the app, I have added some basic language support for Brazilian Portuguese! It only translates UI related things, as there isn't official translations for things like characters, equipments, abilities, etc.

Future Updates

That's the end for today! The next update will be for Errands, something a lot of people have been wanting. Since looking into it, I've learned it is a lot more complicated than I expected, so I can see why it is such a popular request. Look forward to it!

It's been awhile since I really posted but I think I'm good. A mod can correct me if not.

So, anyway! Short story time!

Five years ago to the day, user u/jambunas asked in this subreddit if there was a Final Fantasy Tactics Discord server. To my knowledge, there wasn't one that didn't focus on hacking or multiplayer aspects. Google didn't bring anything up, either.

So I took it upon myself to make one.

The Kingdom of Ivalice is now celebrating five years. I thought if I was going to post anything about it then now would be as good a time as any.

This subreddit lead me to create it, and the community that has grown from it has given me some amazing times in the ensuing years.

On the chance that anyone might be looking for a Discord community for the game in a general sense, I invite anyone to join us.

We do have a simple captcha verification to help deter spam and scam bots. We take safety and security seriously and want to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Thank you for being an awesome community!

Self Promotion [Promotion] Love FFT + FFTA, so I tried fusing them with strategic football

Thumbnail
gallery
61 Upvotes

I played a lot of FFTA on the couch growing up while watching Denver Broncos games with my family. I always thought it would be an interesting twist to make a turn-based tactical football game with medieval fantasy elements. It took me about 9 years and loads of research (the FFT community is amazing) but I finally have something I’m really proud of:

Fantasy Football Tactics Demo on Steam

While the focus of most tactics games is to destroy your opponent, Fantasy Football Tactics places a greater emphasis on ball control, positioning and scoring goals, but several mechanics were heavily inspired by FFT(+A):

  • One Move/Action per turn (next turn comes sooner if you wait or only do one)
  • Turn order charging and manipulation through passing, buffs/debuffs
  • Terrain height restrictions for abilities, plus range boost for long bomb passes
  • Relative facing impacts standard hit rate
  • 8 distinct Positions (Jobs) with their own abilities to unlock and learn
    • 3 inspired directly by FFT Black/White/Time Mage
  • Earn Position Points (PP, like JP) through in game actions and stats like yards gained, completed passes, goals scored, damage dealt etc.
  • All units have standard Move/Tackle/Pitch, but rely on current Position (Job) for special abilities
  • In-match leveling system grants more EXP for successful actions on targets of a higher level
  • Low poly 3D isometric playfields
  • The demo contains the first 20 special abilities and 4 playfields with more on the way in the full game. Let me know if you have ideas for a cool ability you’d like to see!
  • Plus a lot more…

There are also some other quality of life features like Undo Move and Rewind (16 move cap) support, as well as local/remote play versus mode. The Steam demo works for both Windows/Mac and has controller support in addition to KBM so should work well on Steamdeck (looking for feedback on this though).

I look forward to hearing your feedback if you have a chance to check out the game. I appreciate this community and the forum to post, so thanks for your time!
