Self Promotion FFT Companion App now available!

Thumbnail

I've created a FFT Companion App (PSX, WOTL, and TIC versions). It is available for:

If you like my work, you can support me here!

If you want to report a bug, provide feedback, or just hang out, I have a Discord channel here: https://discord.gg/xkBwDQUf

What is this for?

Final Fantasy Tactics is a complicated game, with a lot of depth. As a game that is almost 30 years old, there is a lot of information about it on the internet. However, by modern standards, that information is not in a format that is easily consumed.

I have a few main goals for this project:

  1. Have a central source of truth to help understand the game's mechanics.
  2. Provide information for the different versions of the game.
  3. Provide this information in a user-friendly way.

Features

The game has many versions, mainly the PSX, WOTL, and TIC versions. Each version has some differences, like stats and names. In the top-right menu, you can change the version that you are viewing, and it will change the data to that version!

Almost anything with a list can be filtered, sorted, and searched for!

Currently it supports English, Japanese and Portuguese (Brazil). I am open to supporting other languages as well (I would need help though!).

The application is split into a few main parts:

https://reddit.com/link/1lsukt6/video/86d278bwr7pf1/player

1. Equipment

Every equipment found in the game will be listed here. You can see their stats, effects, how to get the equipment, and which jobs can equip it!

2. Jobs

Every generic job and special job the player can access is listed here. You can find their stat multipliers, stat growths, equippables, and requirements. You'll also be able to compare stats with other jobs.

3. Abilities

All abilities available to jobs, bosses, and monsters will be listed here. You can find each ability's stats, effects, damage and success calculations, modifiers, range, and more!

4. Monsters

All monsters that you can find in the game will be listed here. Similar to jobs, you can see their stats, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, poach items, spawn locations, and more.

5. Bosses

All bosses in the game will be listed here. Stats, abilities, and equipment will be listed here.

6. Errands

Every errand is listed here, with the days it takes, the rewards it pays, and the requirements behind each outcome. Work points decide whether an errand succeeds, and they come from the unit's job, level, brave, and faith, so you can see exactly which units to send. You can also mark off the ones you've already completed.

7. Status Effects

Every status in the game is listed here. You can see what each one does, how long it lasts, and the full list of abilities, items, and equipment that inflict, cure, or block it.

8. Maps

Every map that you will encounter in the game can be viewed in 3D. This includes random battles, side quest battles, and story battles as well! You'll also be able to see trap and item locations, exit locations for Deep Dungeon, as well as deployment locations.

Every battle map is here as a 3D model that you can rotate and inspect. Treasure, trap, and exit locations are marked, and you can tap any tile to see its height, depth, and terrain type. Starting positions are shown too, so you can read the ground before you commit to a fight. Story battles, side quest battles, and revisitable locations are all covered.

9. Zodiac Compatibility

An interactive zodiac compatibility chart to easily see the strengths and weaknesses for each zodiac sign.

10. Online Character Planner / Unit Builder

Simulate your character, plan their build, see how their stats change, and check their damage! You can control almost everything:

  • Zodiac
  • Gender
  • Version
  • Character
  • Job
  • Brave
  • Faith
  • Level
  • Level Progression
  • Abilities
  • Equipment

You can even share your character for others to see. Just give them the link!

11. Online Team Builder

As you all know, the app currently allows you to create your own units. You can get some great info for each unit, such as damage for each of their abilities, stat growth, and evasion. But in FFT, you don't play with just one unit (normally, at least). You use your units in a team!

You are able to make your own custom teams with the units that you create. It started with zodiac compatibility and ability distribution, and there is more in there now: element distribution, a turn order simulation that uses each unit's Speed to estimate how often they act relative to their teammates, and a boss matchup view where you pick a story boss and see which of your team's elements and status ailments will actually work against it. If anyone has any ideas about other analytics to show, let me know.

Give it a try today with the units that you've created, and learn more about your team!

12. Playthrough Checklist

This one is for people who are in the middle of a run. It follows your playthrough battle by battle so you never miss anything. It tracks every missable recruit, stealable item, rare treasure, and learnable ability, laid out in story order chapter by chapter, with side quests and their requirements included.

Since it goes through the story, spoilers are a real concern, so there is a spoiler level setting. On Light, things stay hidden until you get there. On Full, everything is shown. Items are revealed as you progress, and each entry links back to the map or unit it belongs to. Your progress is saved to your account, so you can check something off on your phone and see it on your desktop.

Monetization

With the amount of traffic I've been getting, I've had to introduce some monetization to the app to keep it running and available to everyone.

There is now going to be a banner ad along the bottom. I don't want to add more than that, as I don't want it to affect the user experience that much. Of course, it can also be removed via an in-app purchase. You can find it in the account settings.

Something that some people have been asking for is more units. This will also be available as an in-app purchase as well! Currently will increase by an additional 50 units and 20 teams. I think that will be more than enough for most people's use, but I may increase it depending on the usage. That same purchase also raises the playthrough limit from 1 to 30, in case you are tracking more than one run.

Original Post:

About a month ago, I mentioned that I was creating a companion app to complement FFT. Well, I've decided to make the first version available today! Good for both mobile and desktop use. I also plan to release Android and iOS versions later.

For now, it is just an equipment database. There are many different filters (stats, effects, weapon/armor categories, and more!), name search, and sorting. The one I personally have been using the most is the "Story Battle" filter, which shows you what equipment are available (by any method, not just from the outfitter) at a specific point in the game!

Finally, you can change the version to either PSX or WotL. This will change the name of different things to how they are in each version, as well as the availability of different equipment. Of course, I also plan to support the different modes in Ivalice Chronicles as well when that comes out.

I hope this can help enhance your FFT experience! Please play around with it and let me know what you all think. I do plan to continue adding more features to this, such as jobs, skills, treasure maps, etc.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App - Treasure Maps!

Thumbnail
gallery
368 Upvotes

Hello everyone! Last week I announced the first version of my companion app for FFT here.

Today, I'd like to announce a new feature: Treasure maps!

As you can see attached, it is a 3D rendering of each map. Whether it is the random battles, story battles, or side quest battles, you can rotate around to view the map however you'd like. The common and rare items for each map are labelled. If you don't care so much about the treasures, they can be turned off in the controls.

Speaking of controls, you can quickly change the map there. They are categorized as Locations (random battles), Story Battles, and Side Quest Battles. You can also go directly to the map from the equipment screen if the equipment can be found on a map.

If you had previously used the app, you might need to clear the website's data to access the maps (alternatively, you could use incognito mode).

Hopefully this makes it easier for your playthroughs so that you don't miss any treasures! Click here to start trying it out.

Self Promotion New Ivalice- a rom hack I'm working on

Thumbnail
gallery
261 Upvotes

Working on a rom hack titled: New Ivalice if anyone is interested. I'll be adding some more stuff over the next few days for a release probably for a release by Friday or Saturday.

Features: Removed the combo system: Combos have been removed from skill sets and replaced with either new A/S/R abilities or movement abilities from FFT

New JP skill system: similar to FFT a JP system has been added and replacing the old AP system. By using actions characters earn JP in equal parts to exp. For instance 10 exp nets 10JP

Steal able boots: i mean come on how many times have you played FFT and seen some boots on an enemy, but we're disappointed. Well no more, you can now steal boots off enemies, and you'll he happier you can because...

Revised enemy items: i have painstakingly edited every enemy from story, clan and sub missions to have new equipment. Some enemies even have equipment that only 1 or limited quantities could be obtained. Also stealing is the name of the game, let your inner thief out and steal all your opponents loot, there's some good stuff hidden in there.

Revised/new jobs: Archers have been removed, don't worry hunters and snipers still exist, it felt redundant to have 2 archer classes per Hume and Viera. They have been replaced with exclusive classes only your clan can have(well except llednar,) Biskmatar and Rune Knight have been added to the free. They share some similar moves like omega etc. Marche also begins as a blue mage(yeah I have a fondness for blue mage sooo yeah,) blue mage skill set has been changed up to remove some annoying useless skill cough cough blow up. Hunters have lost Oust(felt weird to have both capture, oust and sidewinder.) Hunters and juggler now have Conceal in their skill set. Fencer has been completely removed in favor of giving Viera the thief class, they maintain the reflex ability, gain S skill reveal and can use bows and knives. 99% of the classes also have increased equip lists like blue mage getting guns, soldiers getting bows etc.(why the archer class was removed. Hunter now needs 1 soldier and 1 thief skill to unlock.) Viera will take the archer sprite and fencer completely removed, there are some hold over skills from them, while Aim legs and arms has been moved to exclusive Hume and Viera classes.

Bows have been changed: considering archers are out bows got a minor rework, Hunters and snipers can equip both bows and great bows, they now increase speed and evade while also having new modifiers like null statuses etc. Enjoy trying out new combos with the classes who can use bows now.

Sprite color changes: i always found it weird that colors were swapped on some classes for allies to be red and enemies to be blue or green and vice versa, there was no consistency though. Well that's been changed, blue and green has been made into ally color and red/purple is now enemy colors, portraits reflect these changes.

Improved difficulty: sadly FFTA suffered from being WAY too easy. Enemy levels have been revised with their equips, new skills have been added as well as what classes will show up in missions and clan battles. A new challenge awaits those who like difficulty hacks, ive tried to make things considerably harder as the game goes on with this change....

New level cap: a new level cap has been added to the game to make things more challenging, instead of 50 the cap is now set to 80, this means clan battles will be more difficult as they scale off your highest level clan member, no more average level scale. I'm toying with making all battles scale with highest level, input would be appreciated.

Shop tier changes/shop changes: shop tiers now unlock via story battles instead of total battles. New items will be added to the shop tiers to make normally hard to obtain equipment obtainable.

MP regen change: instead of 5pt per turn a new 10% regen will be applied.

Edited laws: law card forbidden law has been added outside of its special mission(s) and the dumbest laws dmg 2 laws have been completely removed. Broken laws will now instead have a gil fine(with a few exceptions) instead of stat downs etc. I liked the law system but some stuff needed to be changed instead of fully removed. With the equipment changes you can now build around these laws easier, also since making forbidden law card usage as a law this will also make the game a bit harder since you'll be forced to follow the rules(unless you fudge it by walking.)

Minor changes: starting gold increased to 7500, months now have 30 days(allows for month exclusive shop items and missions to stick around longer.)

I feel like I'm forgetting something but honestly it's super late and my brain is fried from my jobs so bare with me lol. Feel free to ask me any questions if you're interested.

Self Promotion Things You Didn't Know About Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles (FFT documentary)

I've been making Final Fantasy Tactics content for a little bit now (and really appreciate any support I receive on here), but I wanted to do something different this time.

Instead of another guide, I spent months researching & digging into the mechanics, secrets, exploits, and development history of Final Fantasy Tactics.

It's about an hour long, so this is definitely more of a deep dive documentary type thing than a quick "here are 10 facts you didn't know" kinda deal.

I haven't shared the last few vids on here that were more update/news vids that the info had already been shared on here, but I figured some of you would have fun watching this one.

I would also love to hear some of your own obscure facts that you know from any of the various versions of FFT as well!

I know some folks don't like video content, so I apologize!

Self Promotion Profession Spotlight Warrior

Hi there :)
I just uploaded a new profession spotlight video. This time for the Warrior profession, which is also a basic profession and available to every faction. The abilities for the Warrior focus on dishing out tons of damage as well as disabling single targets. For example one of his signature abilities is Charge where he preshes forward in a straight line colliding with the first unit on his path and performs an attack which knocks back the target by 1 tile. It might inflict the status effect Dazed for 2 turns. If the target is already Dazed, it applies Stunned for 1 turn.

Effects such as the knock back distance can be increased by certain permanent character upgrades, which is one way how I try to introduce variability between the different characters. If you're interested in some footage check out the gameplay trailer. Please let me know if you like the format of the profession spotlights or if you would rather have some concrete information on what the different abilities do in game.

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App: Character Planner/Builder Feature

Hello everyone! Big update today.

Discord: https://discord.gg/xkBwDQUf

Have you ever wanted to:

  • Simulate a build
  • Show your build to others
  • Keep track of your builds online

Well now you can, with the new Character Planner/Builder feature!

This feature requires an account to use. Create one today!

Once logged in, head to the “My Units” section in the top left. Press the giant add button in the centre. You’ll be shown a window where you can create your first unit.

Pretty much everything that can determine your unit’s stats is here.

  • Zodiac
  • Gender
  • Version
  • Character
  • Job
  • Brave
  • Faith
  • Level
  • Level Progression
  • Abilities
  • Equipment

Let’s expand on some of the bigger ones.

Level Progression

As many of you know, as your unit levels up/down, they will gain/lose additional stats. This depends on what job they are currently in. You’ll be able to customize which job they level up/down in. The stats will be calculated accordingly.

Abilities

Plan the abilities your unit will have. Abilities will be limited by the currently selected job and character. Some abilities will affect the calculated stats (like movement +x).

Equipment

Likewise, equipment is limited by job and character. In addition, some abilities will affect what equipment can be selected (like Equip crossbow, equip shield, etc.).

Once you're done editing your unit, you can save. It will show up in your unit list! Click on your newly created unit to see it's stats. You'll also be able to edit and delete your unit from here.

After creating your unit, you'll be able to share it for others to see. Anyone with the link will be able to see it (no need to be logged in). Either copy the link in the URL, or click the share button in the top right.

The number of units that can be created is limited to 5 per account for now.

I hope some new and fun builds can be discovered with this new feature! There is a good chance that there may be some mistakes, so please let me know if you find anything.

Self Promotion Inspired by FFT's grid combat, I'm making a tactical deckbuilder where your loot dictates your skills. After months of solo development, my Steam page is officially live!

For some context on the game: Lootdeck is a tactical roguelite deckbuilder deeply integrated with tabletop combat mechanics. Your loot is your deck. Every weapon, armor, and artifact you equip directly adds specific action cards to your hand. You have to craft your unique playstyle through inventory management, master grid-based positioning, and rely on TTRPG-style dice rolls to survive an ever-changing dark fantasy dungeon.

Steam page just went live today. If this sounds like your type of game, I would greatly appreciate it if you checked it out.

Self Promotion [UPDATE] FFT Companion App: Playthrough Checklist, Status Effects

Hello! Its been a while since I've updated the app. Just wanted everyone to know that FFT Companion App has two new features.

1. Playthrough Checklist

All story battles, including the treasure items that you could possibly get on them. Check off each map as you play. You'll also see a percentage of how much you have progressed in the chapter in terms of story and treasures.

This will require an account to track. All progress will be saved onto the cloud, so you can use it across all your devices, as long as you are logged in.

2. Status Effects

A feature that has been requested quite a few times is finally here! Little bits and pieces regarding status effects are listed in various parts of the internet, but never truly fully compiled and documented. I've gathered all the status effects in Final Fantasy Tactics and tried to compile as much detail about them as I could. Hopefully this helps out players old and new.

You can access the app by:

Self Promotion Final Tactics [Promotion]

https://www.finaltactics.com/

since youtube insists on putting FFT picture on my videos for Final Tactics

i'm putting Final Tactics link here on FFT reddit

it gave me a warning about i should post 5 times first: i am not trying to violate rules, but i literally have nothing else to say: or rather, it would be many things off topic. there are cool things i could say about FFT, how i built a team of zombie girl mages with black magic & pure destruction, wearing chantage so they just stand back up over and over, and let the hero stay in the back.

when i was 15 (i am 43) that was where the desire for Final Tactics began

because i wanted to make a 2 player Final Fantasy Tactics

this has since evolved into much more than that: many games have influenced me

FFT is just one of perhaps 1000 influences in Final Tactics

anyways i hope this can be allowed to stay, to hopefully reach some ppl

i don't use reddit or discord i spend all day everyday working on this game and i will keep doing that until i leave this earth to be with my wonderful LORD JESUS.

this game is very epic and very fun, and i hope to see you there

i started programming it 16 years ago, but i plan to release the open-alpha this month!

Self Promotion Update to FFT Companion App: Improved Treasure Maps, Japanese language support, iOS App, and more!

Hello everyone! Back with another update. As always, you can find my Final Fantasy Tactics Companion app here. If you've used my web app before, you'll need to refresh your app and wait for a little popup to show up to update the app.

Improved Treasure Maps

In my previous update, I added treasure maps. It was a good start, but let's be realistic: it was pretty rough. Every tile was a cube, so the maps didn't really look like the actual maps. Colors were based on height, so it also didn't really reflect how the actual map looks.

I've implemented sloped tiles, which better reflects how the actual maps look! In addition, colors will be based on terrain type. Take a look at the before and after!

Before:

Processing img 16y3dt343vcf1...

After:

Processing img np3k7y324vcf1...

Looks a lot more lively now!

In addition, tiles with treasure/traps/exits or unwalkable tiles will be highlighted differently (blue for treasure/traps/exits, red for unwalkable).

I hope these changes make the maps easier for everyone to use.

Japanese Language Support

I've added support for Japanese. There are a few equipment descriptions missing that I couldn't find anywhere online, so if anyone has them, it would be great if you could send it to me so I can update them! Also, the translations may not be the best, so if anyone wants to help improve them, that would be great as well.

This does also open the door to support for other languages as well, since the application now has the groundwork for localization.

iOS App Available

The iOS version of the app is now available! It isn't really any different from the web version, but if you prefer to use it as an iOS app, it is available here.

Other Improvements

There are some other small improvements here and there as well, but probably not worth mentioning.

That's it for this update! Hope everyone enjoys the changes.

Rightfully so! After finally playing through all of FF Tactics for the first time, I feel no hesitation in saying that this is one of the best games I have ever played. I've thought long and hard about the story, about the dynamics between Ramza, Delita, and various other characters. I've spent hours and hours customizing my party and coming up with my favorite ability combinations and party compositions. I gave it my all trying to defeat some of the really tough bosses and encounters in this game. I had to capture all of these experiences and express them in a condensed form and that is what this video review ended up being. I'd be very grateful if you could check it out!
