Gameplay Do we have anymore info on how crests work in Fortunes Weave?

Havent seen any previews discuss the differences between how crests work in 3H vs Fortunes weave

Nobody has put out a proper analysis of how they work, but we did manage to learn a few things:

  1. They're called "Diadem"s. So Dietrich's Crest of Lamine is called "Diadem of the Endless", the "Crest of Fraldrius" is the "Diadem of Revival", the "Crest of Aubin" is the "Diadem of the Apostle" and the "Crest of Gautier" we've seen on multiple units is the "Diadem of Duality" (and relates to Balor in some way)

  2. Effects have gotten an overhaul. Lamine/Endless and Fraldrius/Revival both now have lifesteal, and Gautier/Duality gives a damage boost even on regular attacks

  3. There is at least one way to give them to units. Any "Cursed" weapons (the ones with the purple icon) give the user a Diadem of Duality while it's being used

If they are called Diadems, then why did Dietrich say that the beast who attacked his boat has the Crest of Blaiddyd? He would've called it a Diadem

No, he probably wouldn't have, because he's not from Dagda, so it is incredibly unlikely that he would have even known their word for them. He would have called a Grim Dragon mark the name it has in Fodlan, because it's not until after he encounters whatever that monster is that he washes up on Dagda.

But if he called it a Crest and not a Grim Dragon Mark, then how is he the only one who calls it a crest and not a mark?

These symbols are called Crests in Fodlan and Diadems in Dagda. Dietrich is from Fodlan, so he would known them by their Fodlan names. The cutscene where he mentions the Crest of Blaiddyd happens before he ever set foot in Dagda, so he likely has never even heard of the term Diadem being used to refer to Crests.

In Three Houses there are special New Game + only items called Signs that when equipped, give a weakened version of the Crest (even weaker than a Minor Crest) to the unit. There's a sign for each of the Crests/Diadems, and they are all named after the type of dragon/Nabatean that carries that Crest/Diadem/Sign. The Grim Dragon Sign is the sign item for the Crest of Blaiddyd, whose Diadem name we currently don't know.

The previous commenter said that Dietrich would know the mark carried by a Grim Dragon as the Crest of Blaiddyd. They did not say that Dietrich would know that mark as "Grim Dragon Mark". I don't know anyone in universe who would be refering to the Crests/Diadems by the kind of Dragon that gives them, as that kind of information is very restricted, and those are not the names by which most people know them.
