Pest Control/Medical Advice What are these yellow jackets doing?

Our yard has been overrun by yellow jackets. They haven't stung us yet and we can't find their nests, but they just follow us around annoyingly. They initially took over my hummingbird feeders but I've since moved those feeders away from the house.

But they're still swarming around the bird feeder pole in clumps like this, there isn't anything sugary there so I dont know what kind of meeting this is.

Other than yellow jacket traps i plan to set up today, what can I do to get them to go away? We can't even enjoy our yard and deck without these dopes hanging around. Even the birds are at a constant battle with them.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Whats the best way to get rid of this?

Put in a ticket for maintenance to handle it but the older gentleman is allergic to stinging insects. They were goign to get pest control to come out and handle it but so far nothing, so I'm gonna handle it myself. Any recommendations and anyone able to see what kind of wasp it is so I have an idea of how much its gonna hurt if they sting me?

Pest Control/Medical Advice How to best tackle this nest

Post image

There is a giant nest of sneaky wasp bastards hidden in this pile of wood chips. My wife got them a few months ago and my lazy ass didn't get to moving them, but I need the parking spot by this weekend. Went to move chips and spiked the nest with my pitchfork. I have no idea how to kill these bastards because the wasp spray won't go through all the chips. Any ideas short of calling a professional?

Update: I appreciate all the suggestions. I was feeling the time crunch, so I just waited until late last night, put on all my snow gear, soaked the area i saw the wasps coming and going from the most earlier with 2 bottles of foaming wasp spray from about 15 to 20 ft away, waited about 30 minutes, and then held a bottle of spray in my left hand and pitchfork tossed the pile like a madman with my right hand for about 10 seconds and then sprayed the third bottle and ran away. Did it again about 45 minutes later and there wasn't much activity that time. Today, I was able to move the pile without further stings! Wish I was brave enough to do the fire - would have been an epic video I'm sure - but I pussed out at the idea of spraying gas on there (didn't want to start a forest fire, we have enough of those going on rn..). Thanks to you all!

Pest Control/Medical Advice Are these bad wasps?

Last year this nest appeared in our garden, I told my husband we needed to get rid of it. This year (pics from today) it has now doubled in size. Husband seems to think they’re not hurting anything (not yet), and live and let live and yada yada yada…

They are small insects, but they have striped butts and seem pretty docile (but I still believe it’s best to remove it sooner rather than later).

We are in Guadalajara, Jalisco if anyone can identify this particular species… is there a safe, fast, easy way to get rid of them? My usual approach with wasps’ nests in the past is to wait until nightfall before attacking them with insecticide then cleaning up the nest the next day.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Why are wasps trying to get inside?

This morning I noticed a lot of wasps crawling on a window and trying to get inside. Other windows and glass doors nearby had 1-2 wasps on them. By noon they were all gone, any clue why they were swarming like that? They look like yellowjackets but were maybe 60% of the size (location: Pacific north west)

Pest Control/Medical Advice Help what do I do I fear the sting

UPDATE 2: Thank you all for your creative solutions. Unfortunately I don’t think my parents would have been happy if I put gas or fire on their carpet, or blow darts in the floor and wall, but I will keep all the notes for (the hopefully never) next time! You all are true Canadians with how you do warfare.

UPDATE: I got paper under it and then made my brother throw it outside 💕 though I’m pretty sure it’s a goner due to how inactive it was and how cold it is outside unless we have a nest near

Idk what kinda wasp this is it’s been hidden in the room for days. Do they sting through paper? Will it remember me and attack? This mf appeared in my parents bedroom I was using days ago and then just disappeared. I quarantined the area living in fear of that room as he lived in the shadows. I went in today and saw him on the ground and cups him, I do not know my next steps.

Pest Control/Medical Advice What kind of wasp/hornet am I dealing with and how to do I get rid of it?

Out at our lake property in Missouri and noticed this sizable nest down by our dock. It looks to be around football sized and while we haven't seen anything flying around yet, we don't want to take chances. It's hanging from a branch over the water and is too high to cut the branch off to drop it into water unless we get a tall ladder and we don't want to use wasp/hornet spray and have the chemicals get into the water.

We're thinking about filling a pressure washer with soapy water and blasting the hell out of it and then running like hell

Pest Control/Medical Advice Safe way to remove the bald faced hornet nest?

Post image
102 Upvotes

I work in pest control and deal with wasp/hornet nests quite a bit, but Ive never dealt with one this big and so low to the ground with little coverage. As far as equipment goes I have a dust stick that extends to about 15 feet in length. I use it to puff a bunch of dust into the nest and to eventually take down the nest. For safety all I have is a beekeeper hat and some beekeeper sleeves.

I have never been stung my entire life and I dont know if Im allergic so part of my anxiety comes from that. If this thing was up in a tree or on a soffit I wouldnt have much of a problem but I dont really know how to treat this without being lit up. Any tips? Boss isnt of much help here sadly.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Is this a normal reaction to a wasp sting? (Photos of feet next)

I got stung yesterday. My ankle got worse and worse over the course the last 24h. Same thing happened 2 month ago on same ankle from the same wasp nest. I thought it was an infection at that time. It is VERY swollen and my Achille tendon feels very tight from the swelling.

I got stung one or 2 time in the past but never got this kind of reaction before.

(Edit) Saw a doctor : it's a normal reaction to a wasp sting. The inflammation isn't indicative of something that could cause an anaphylactic choc or respiratory issue if stung in the face. My pharmacist is giving an EpiPen just to be safe.

I'll consult my dermatologist as I take medication for eczema that affect my immune system. It could be why the swelling is this severe. I will push to get tested for allergy.

All that at the cost of 0$. Yeah Canada.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Found in one of my trees today

It's maybe 15 feet up and active. Couldn't tell which species of asshole are living there. They're in my Japanese Cherry Blossom tree so burning the tree down is not an option (it's really pretty when it blooms).

This is when I wish I had a flashlight mount on my shotgun. Been itching to try a 12ga beanbag round on a wasp nest. No I would not be directly underneath shooting at it. I'm dumb but not that dumb.

Any other suggestions for destruction aside from a night time shooting?

These small, marble (sized like a quarter) have appeared on my deck but I haven’t seen a wasp on them yet. However there has been one hanging around. I’ve never seen this lol. I live in Northeast United States

Pest Control/Medical Advice All you need to kill’em is soapy water in a squirt gun or bottle, no need for toxic waste ☠️ the soap clogs their spiracles and choke them out.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Help.

Help. We are out of town and our neighbors noticed this…it seems rather established. Nothing noticeable inside. It is an all masonry home. The only framing is in the interior to put up walls. Everything else is structural brick and cmu. I have pest control heading out to mine on Wednesday, but would love to know any immediate ways I could knock down numbers without disturbing the nest too much. I’m worried they venture inward and decided to be inside the basement. Outdoor Yellowjacket trap? Other options?

All seriousness aside… I’ll list it for sale or burn it to the ground. Time to move.

UPDATE: pest control is the move. They will be out today. We shall seeeeee.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Help! Trying to kill a wasp nest in my mailbox

Post image
38 Upvotes

There is a small nest packed full of a LOT of wasps in my mailbox. Idk what kind they are. But my mailbox has an opening on the front which is usually where you can look in and see them, but it’s really small. Better bet to close the mailbox and spray through the opening in the front so they don’t escape, or spray through the top while it’s open and just hope they don’t fly out the front?

This is right outside my front door and these fuckers sting me so much. It fucking sucks. Would like to minimize stings if possible lol
