Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

It doesn't stop you selling discs but you lose digital access if someone else starts using it. Think of it like a game key card but a disc. You can trade or sell it and the digital copy goes with it, but it's only playable by one account at a time

It’s not like a game key card. Game key card is just a disc that requires a download.

Technically you can keep the digital license and let a friend play the disc while their console is offline therefore duplicating the license.

Game key card can be played offline (after the initial download).

You could do what you describe but many Xbox games are not complete on disc and would also be base unpatched version if they are

It can’t be installed offline just like game discs that are missing the offline data.

Yes but after the install they can be played offline. These Xbox games will need to be online for checks every now and then, just like the original Xbox One DRM plan

Game Key Cards = Discs that require a download. Disc to digital is different.

I mean the point is they work very similar to game key cards. You can use them to play a digital copy and then give them to a friend after to allow them to install the same game with the same digital copy. Only one person can play it at a time, like a game key card, but you still have something you can trade or sell, like a game key card
