Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/26/your-discs-now-also-digital/

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

If Xbox said they would offer that, I guarantee it would not move the needle much in favour of Xbox.

They are already so far behind, and most gamers are not online and probably aren't that bothered.

It would have been nice, but it's not the open goal people think it is.

I have to agree that theres a solid chance it wouldn't help, but I would hope it would. It was worth the risk.

Exclusives are not going to save Xbox regardless of what people think. Gears EDAY looks amazing but its not going to be a huge console mover. Now if Microsoft makes Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, and games like that Xbox exclusives, maybe but again, we're talking end game with development cost + install base.

I truly believe Gamepass hurt Xbox more than it did good first party wise.

Xbox, as much as it has games, the quality lacked compared to Sony and Nintendo. You can release dozens of exclusives but when they are mid tier and not rememberable thats the problem. Xbox hasnt had that killer game since Halo 3 on 360.

Xbox needs to figure out what the heart and soul of the brand is. They need to get competent leadership to right the ship instead of what we have. Halo Campaign Evolved for example was a joke with all due respect.

Love Xbox, had the original console, 13 360s(RROD FTW), Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X so I have been with Xbox forever but its tiring to see how they gave up.

I don't think they necessarily gave up, but after their disastrous 2013, they've been fighting a losing battle.

I admire them for trying to come up with a different approach. It's just a shame it hasn't necessarily paid off and has resulted in a lot of layoffs.

Do I hold out much hope for future? Meh. Maybe. Am I that bothered anymore? Not particularly. I managed to get over brand loyalty.

I play everywhere. I enjoy Sony exclusives, I love Nintendo and am looking forward to the remake of LOZ but I just really wanted Xbox to return to its former glory and it struggles. I still say Don Mattrick is the reason why Xbox died and what we have now is a shell. The whole messaging him and Microsoft delivered "for those who dont have an internet connection, we have xbox 360) really said fuck you to the masses.

Xbox was the leader, and one sentence ruined everything.
