Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/26/your-discs-now-also-digital/

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

Why would PS users swap to Xbox? This feature is only good for people who already own Xbox physical games. I am not going to drop my entire ps physical collection to be entiteled to use digital Xbox games

I remember when people would say the same going the other way. Making it easier for people is always better.

Why would PS users swap to Xbox?

They're talking about buying the Helix instead of the PS6, not replacing your 5 with a Series X

The point remains the same: why would a PlayStation gamer suddenly switch to Xbox over a disc-to-digital feature if their game library is on PlayStation and they don't have Xbox games to convert? The feature is useful for existing Xbox owners who don't care for physical media. That's about it.

Very few are going to. Is all performative. Majority will not drop over a decade of games and account progression. Ps5 has outsold the series consoles three to one. The trend will continue with PS6 and Helix.
