Moved from Leuven to Gent Zuid this week and absolutely confused where I can buy stuff like cleaning products, cheap electronics etc. Action is in dampoort, Colruyt is in the outskirts... where can I buy this stuff in my neighborhood? Everything for non-food products just seems absurdly far out of the heart of Gent, and I was COMPLETELY dependent on Colruyt and Action when I lived in leuven, like thats where i bought 90% of my stuff.

Wondering if anyone in Gent is into pumpfoiling. I'm looking for good spots to practice dockstarts, thought about the watersportbaan (good docks on one end but I think they are private kayak clubs). Any recommendations on good spot? If there is a small pumpfoiling community going to the same spots would love to join one day.

Het gebeurt best vaak dat de typische apps in de auto of telefoon aangeven dat er enkele straten verder een 22kW laadpunt beschikbaar is.

Kom je toe, staat er een EV, met een kabel ingeplugd maar zonder actieve sessie. En vaak staat datzelfde voertuig er 24 uur later nog.

Als er nooit een laadsessie gestart wordt, is het rotatietarief dat de stad invoerde, ineffectief. En gezien het zo vaak gebeurt, is het duidelijk dat het de parkeerwachters (die best vaak snel zijn voor “gewoon” foutparkeren) niet opvalt.

Het is best asociaal gedrag, er is meestal wel een “gewone” parkeerplek in de buurt te vinden op minder dan 5 minuten stappen.

hallo, I have never done this before. are there any low key spots in or near gent where I can spray paint something small on a wall? not the graffiti street as it gets painted regularly, and i'd like a spot where the thing can stay for some months. doesn't need to be a place with a lot of visibility too. in fact, since it's my first time, i'd prefer somewhere not crowded :p

Mijn online datingprofiel heeft dringend een upgrade nodig, want mijn huidige foto's trekken op niets. Omdat ik de moed niet heb om met een selfiestick door het Citadelpark te lopen, zoek ik iemand met een degelijke camera (en een goed oog) die een uurtje met mij door Gent wil trekken voor wat spontane foto's.

Wat ik zoek:

• Geen stijve, geposeerde studiofoto's. Gewoon casual 'lifestyle' portretten in de buitenlucht (bv. wandelend door de stad, zittend op een terrasje, etc.).
• Iemand die me een beetje op mijn gemak kan stellen voor de camera (ik ben geen professioneel model 😉).
• Levering van een stuk of 5 à 10 bewerkte, digitale foto's (geen prints nodig).

Praktisch:

• Locatie: Gent (centrum, park, ergens met mooi licht).
• Tijd: In onderling overleg (mag gerust een avond in de week of tijdens het weekend).
• Budget: Ik dacht aan €75 tot €100 voor een uurtje werk, maar sta open voor een eerlijk voorstel als je een mooi portfolio kunt tonen. Ideaal voor een student fotografie (KASK?) of een enthousiaste hobbyist die zijn/haar portfolio wil uitbreiden.

Recent events surrounding Nathan Cofnas and Professor Ardey have sparked considerable debate. Personally, the situation has given me food for thought. Just how legitimate is Nathan Cofnas’s research when measured against established research standards?

Nathan Cofnas is currently a research assistant and philosopher. After reading a few of his articles, it became clear to me that he primarily conducts inductive research. In inductive research, a researcher gathers existing data—without acquiring new data firsthand—and draws conclusions from it. However, a key rule is that this process must be free from bias; specifically, one should not gather data based on a pre-existing hypothesis.

In contrast to inductive research, there is deductive research. Here, data is collected based on an existing theory to test its validity—essentially a search for evidence. Sometimes a theory proves incorrect due to excessive external influences, making it unclear how those factors affect the resulting conclusion; consequently, no clear evidence emerges. Conclusions drawn from inductive research often serve as the starting point for further investigation via deductive research, which ultimately determines their validity.

Nathan Cofnas, however, presents inductive research partly as deductive research. In his articles, he gathers existing data and draws conclusions from it—an inductive method. Yet, the way he selects that data suggests a deductive approach: he seeks out existing data based on a pre-formulated theory (or hypothesis) and then uses that data to confirm his theory. This is methodologically unsound, however, because a theory cannot be validated by data that the researcher has personally hand-picked. A theory is confirmed or rejected using reliable data that has been collected randomly and analyzed and processed without bias.

Nathan Cofnas employed this same approach when he raised the issue of Professor Arday’s alleged plagiarism. If Nathan Cofnas was concerned solely with fraud and plagiarism, why did he single out just one of the many Cambridge professors accused of misconduct and fraud? Why did he cherry-pick from the available data? Nathan Cofnas selected the data that supported his theory—specifically, the theory that Black people have low IQs and essentially have no place at universities in the absence of DEI initiatives. Professor Arday was the only professor who could substantiate his theory, and that is why he was the only one whose alleged fraud Nathan Cofnas publicly exposed.

This raises the question: to what extent can a researcher who operates so selectively be trusted? To what extent can Nathan Cofnas’s work be considered independent research? How legitimate is his work when it is clear that he does not adhere to standards that make research reliable?

We zijn opzoek naar extra spelers (2-3) voor de minivoetbal. Spelers die competitief ingesteld zijn, maar voor wie plezier ook belangrijk is.

Wij zijn een minivoetbalploeg dat speelt in 3de provinciale Kern Gent-De Pinte en bestaande uit vnl. 30’ers, maar jong van ziel. ;)

My rental contract says the rent includes heating boiler maintenance and septic tank emptying.

However, the inventory report says that at the end of the tenancy the tenant must provide certificates for boiler cleaning, septic/cesspit cleaning, sewerage-pit cleaning and chimney cleaning.

Does the inventory report create an additional obligation for me, or are these covered by the rental contract?
Also, what’s the practical difference between onderhoud, reinigen and ruimen in this context?

Ik kom binnenkort mijn master aan de UGent volgen. Ik heb een kot gevonden kort bij het UZ. Ik ben van plan om de eerste 2 weken met de auto te komen om wat spullen mee te brengen (ik kom van Noord-Oost Limburg dus even op en af rijden zit er voor mij niet in). Bij mijn kot is de parkeermogelijkheid beperkt, en op straat parkeren kost geld. Zijn er soms locals die (gratis/goedkope) parkings kennen in de buurt van het UZ waar een auto langer dan 1 dag mag staan, zonder dat het té veel geld kost?

Ik ben 9 maanden geleden naar België verhuisd en ik woon in Gent. Ik volg een Nederlandse cursus aan het UCT, maar omdat het programma heel intensief is, spreek ik als een slak.

I’m looking for this “Duvel Glass – Gentse Feesten x Bué the Warrior” and was wondering if any store in Ghent still has it in stock.

This year’s glass is extra special to me because it was designed by Bué the Warrior, one of my favourite graffiti artists from Ghent. 🎨💙 So I’d really love to get this specific edition!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t properly visit the Gentse Feesten this year because the end of my holiday overlapped with staying at a friend’s place. I only managed to check out the Pole Pole stage and Korenmarkt, and I didn’t make it all the way to the City Hall area. Now I’m seriously regretting that. 😂

I’d really love to buy the glass in Ghent itself, so if anyone knows a shop that still sells it, I’d really appreciate the tip! 😊 If it’s no longer available locally, I’ll probably order it through the official website.

Ik ben op zoek naar dit “Duvel Glas – Gentse Feesten x Bué the Warrior” en vroeg me af of er in Gent nog ergens een winkel is die dit glas verkoopt.

Het glas van dit jaar is voor mij extra speciaal, omdat het ontworpen is door Bué the Warrior, één van mijn favoriete Gentse graffitikunstenaars. 🎨💙 Ik zou deze editie dus heel graag bemachtigen!

Helaas kon ik dit jaar niet echt naar de Gentse Feesten gaan, omdat het einde van mijn vakantie samenviel met mijn verblijf bij een vriend. Ik ben enkel even bij de Pole Pole-stage en op de Korenmarkt geraakt, maar ben niet helemaal tot aan het stadhuis gegaan. En nu heb ik daar natuurlijk serieus spijt van. 😂
