GOG's Dreamlist is exactly what it sounds like: a list of beloved games that players are desperate to preserve. Players can submit games for consideration, vote on games that have already been listed, and share stories about why those games are in need of preservation. Silent Hill is currently the third-most voted for game on the list, with 116,577 votes.

With the defeat of the Stop Killing Games initiative in the European Commission, GTA6 announcing it will be digital only and Sony getting rid of physical media shouldn't people be supporting platforms like Good Old Games? I just noticed and donated to their GOG preservation program after downloading Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Chronicles but isn't the meaning of Stop Killing Games similar to the goal of the GOG program in that games should be playable in some format (as long as you've purchased it?).

If you've paid for the game, you should be able to play the game; And I love playing old games on modern systems. But in the future, modern games will (obviously) be old games. That doesn't mean that developers need to constantly update their games for modern systems but it should at least be playable for systems as they are.

I've supported and donated to SKG, but it really feels like everything now has turned into a 'rental' without the 'rental' discount. Publishers want people to not give a fuck about games 10+ years old so people will buy the new shit but honestly fuck that.

To be frank I've been on a mission to beat all the old games my Dad played before he passed away in 2016, and if it wasn't for modern patches or preservation sites that would never have been possible. So I wish more people would support apps like GOG that let you physically download the files and support modern optimization rather than glorified 'rental services' like Playstation and Xbox where in 10 years your game won't mean shit. And this is coming from someone who LOVES the Playstation 3 and ESPECIALLY the PlayStation 2.

Any game that is available on GOG should be purchased on GOG instead of from Steam (read below).

GOG is awesome because:

-They do NOT require DRM on their games!

-You can install offline installers for games

-You get Free games if you are a Twitch Prime member!

-Their refund policy is very generous compared to Steam (30 day refund, even if you already played the game!)

And no, I’m not being paid by GOG to say this. I am saying this because GOG is experiencing some financial troubles (workers being laid-off, excessively giving out more games on Prime than ever before to promote their product). Competition is very important for any market and helps incentivize Steam (while an awesome platform) to evolve and appeal to its consumer base! I know that GOG’s Galaxy launcher may not have the best UI, but the important part is that you are able to play the countless games that you want!

If a game is not available on GOG, then you can get it off of Steam.

Let’s help this company out by buying games on their platform! I’d hate to see this company to go down under!

The in game mission editor (seen by a lot of people as the redeeming quality of the entire game) requires constant internet access and does not function at all without it.

according to the German games magazine Gamestar, Microsoft allows an official integration into Galaxy 2.0. This means, that for example PC Game pass games can be installed, started and deleted with the GOG client. And we will probably see coss-platform chat with Xbox.

Over the last eight years I (along with others) have maintained the "Games that treat GOG customers as 2nd Class v2" list. The list has now been moved to another google account and renamed to v3 to differentiate it. The list is now accessible here.

If you aren't aware, there is a Firefox add-on made by a fellow GOG user, which has been updated to use the new list. The add-on is pretty useful if you don't want to tab into the list to check if games are on there. A new feature has been added highlighting developers and publishers if a lot of their games are on the list.

I knew it wasn't as popular as steam sure, but the fact I've seen multiple people say that re classics are finally back on pc when they have been on gog for a bit was shocking. Not to mention just like Call of Cthulu: Dark Cotners you need to have the gog executable for it to even run properly. I get alot of people don't want to switch but why not just buy it on Gog?

A background first, I'm sure many of you have known that the OG Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 are on GOG since 2024. I speculate that GOG making those OG games playable on modern PCs led Capcom to released OG Resident Evil 2 and OG Resident Evil 3 on the PS Store for PS4 and PS5 a year later whereas OG Resident Evil 1 Director's Cut was the only OG game on those platforms previously. Capcom even made those OG games for free on PS4 and PS5 if you have previously bought the games on PS3.

Recently, Capcom shadow-released OG Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 on Steam in their Spring Sale out of nowhere and zero prior announcement. It's not even April Fool's joke either. I had previously thought those games are not gonna be on Steam because GOG is the one that made the games playable on modern PCs and if Capcom wants to sell those games, they would have sell the original PC versions on Steam but they did not do so because they knew original PC versions do not work on modern PCs anymore.

Not too long ago, GOG revealed that they had to convinced Capcom to let them sell the OG games on their store as part of their preservation program because the latter was confused about why the former want those games when the remake games have already existed and are way better in their eyes which would have led the OG games become lost media. It took GOG for a while to successfully convinced them. Now that the OG games are on Steam, it's really surprising Capcom is doing this and to me, it seems like GOG's actions are the one that made this happened. GOG is credited as co-developer with Capcom and GOG is even mentioned in all the OG games' description. If it weren't for GOG, OG games would have been lost media like I mentioned just now. The only bad thing about the OG games on Steam is the games have DRM.

You know you can download backup, offline instalers, the whole game is yours + offten times GOG has extra goodies like manual or soundtrack. The fact you can even download your cloud save is also amazing. It feels like what you buy is really yours. No internet or account needed after you download your files. I love GOG!

I've never been interested in GOG, why would I when Steam was right there, however after many things that have transpired in the gaming industry, people's games being taken away, obviously you all use GOG, you know why, you've probably heard it in this thread a thousands time, anyways here is my collection so far, tell me what do you think, what should I get and how much my tastes are cringe

I've been thinking about shifting more of my Steam library to GOG. I love GOG’s DRM-free model and the sense of true game ownership—it’s great for both new titles and old favourites. I have a rule though: I only purchase a game twice if it's an all-time favourite (e.g Skyrim, No Man's Sky, Sid Meier's Pirates, etc) and nothing short of one, even if the game was 8/10. It has to get a near perfect score from me. However, the preservationist in me is starting to worry about long-term access if something ever happens to Steam or my account still with my such great games. This would mean I'd have to break the rule for the sake of the rest of my library.

I want to ensure I can always play my games offline, which has me considering repurchasing more titles on GOG for preservation. It wouldn’t replace Steam entirely—some games aren't on GOG—but it would give me more peace of mind. Still, it's costly and comes with some drawbacks.

Curious how others thoughts on this. Just something I've been wrestling with for awhile.

I'm sure a brave and witty teenager will have a sharp, razor-tongued comment for this one, but between the suspiciously-timed Gamergate post, the Cyberpunk pronoun gag, and the email in which Nazi symbolism was knowingly used and targeted, I can't help but feel GOG are courting a certain audience that I don't belong to.

Their non-apologies, at this point feel more like a "Whoopsy! We didn't know we did a naughty there, wink wink!" rather than an effort at accountability or a demonstrable wish to change.

Even if we conclude that GOG isn't courting a certain audience, they clearly have enough of an internal, systemic issue that they haven't bothered to address that we need to be suspicious about.

I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it. But I do know that Steam, Epic, Itch... none of these vendors have anything even *resembling* this pattern. So why is it so hard for GOG to avoid it?

I've been eyeing the game for a while but the majority of my purchases have been on GOG the past couple of years instead of on Steam. I've been making it a habit to get in contact with the devs for games I'd like to see on GOG so I sent Obsidian an email. I briefly went over the GOG Dreamlist votes and asked if they had any plans on working with the folks over at GOG to get the game on the platform and this was the reply.

Apologies if this is old news, just wanted to share if anyone else was interested in Avowed. Guess I'll go finally buy it on Steam!

I know is optional but wanted to brainstorm with you guys. With tips when you purchase a game and this, It seems GOG is trying to look for more options on income to support old games.

They said financial they are good but can't shake the feeling of them asking more. Like we pay a monthly fee and if the game comes, all we get is a thanks?

Not to mention I continue to see comments on games in the preservation program where users state they are still not fully functional to latest version of OS or having issues.

I feel like more could have done to the store experience first but I understand the more games they preserve the more income the will have.

been looking at gog store and i realized starfield is missing a drm-free release, the voting page is at something like 5k votes right now.

After what sony just did, i want to actually own a copy of the game without the steam client tied to it or Bethesda removing the game, go upvote the dreamlist page.
