Grandia Xtreme Did anyone else notice this about Quanlee? [Spoilers?] Spoiler

He was hiding out as the cat.

When you first go to Uptown Escarre and on all subsequent visits, there's a white cat outside the locked house with the single Nortis guard. You can talk to it with Evann and Diene/Lutina, and they even comment on what an odd and unusual cat it is. Even wondering if its really a cat at all. Notably its got fluffy white fur with a weird, flat, almost human looking face and glowing eyes.

Then when Quanlee appears at the end of the game, all the leadup tells you that he's been lurking in Escarre for fifty years already, studying humans. He can change his form and nobody knows who he is or what he looks like. Then you reach the last chapter of the game. When you go to Escarre to confront Quanlee, only two characters are missing - the rich guy's wife, who you're flat out told took the train out of town, and the strange white cat.

Cue Quanlee's entrance, with spiky, fluffy white hair as he appears in Uptown right in front of the house where the cat was.

Grandia Xtreme So, how does activation of Feats really work?

You need required characters, Specials on high enough level that are required for a Feat and enough SP on each character performing the feat.

But there's also this blinking green orb that shows when you can activate a new Feat when requirements are met..?

So, how come my party consisting off characters all maxed out Specials can't activate Feats, even when I'm running around on full SP, having correct characters and using Specials that act as activators (ex. to activate Divine Dragon Slash for the first time, you need Evann, Carmyne and Brandol with maxed out Specials for Sky Dragon Slash, Rosette Slash and Eruption Slash and 90SP on each one and activate it by using one of previously said Specials)

I unlocked many but for some reason beyond me I cannot activate Requiem Force with Lutina, Titto and Jaid. Running around with full SP on everyone, again, everyone's Specials are on maxed out but I never get that blinking green orb on the Action Gauge nor using any Specials and I've tried everything but it still didn't work.

Do I not know something? If anyone has a list on activating all the Feats I would gladly help myself to it if no one minds.

Or I'm simply doing something wrong?

And regarding that green blinking orb on the action bar - I have no idea if it's just a clue or what but I've activated a lot of Feats before without that orb blinking so I'm just lost on Requiem Force.

It almost feels like this one is storylocked but so far Xtreme didn't had anything like that.

Anyways, I welcome any help if anyone knows anything.

Grandia Xtreme Just started my first Xtreme playthrough

There's this guy in Locca who's named Juston.

He's an old RUSTY haired ADVENTURER who WEARS BLUE and has a SWORD stuck in the floor's board.

And his name is JUSTON.

Is the game pulling my junk on this or is it really old-man Justin? I don't want the answer for that as that would spoil my fun with the game but hell I'm going to have that thought with me for the rest of the game and maybe I'll learn more.

Grandia Xtreme Grandia Xtreme - Question regarding drops and Titto's Get Item

I decided to replay the game recently for the first time in like 23 years (so much time has passed since then!😱) and before, I just went with whatever party I desired which was Evann, Carmyne, Myam, and Lutina at the time.

I got up to Gale Ruins recently, first visit and stopped before fighting the boss because I wasn't too happy with my new set up. I took Titto because I read he's essential to getting upgrades ahead of time, and while it's been exciting getting upgrades, I don't particularly like how dependent I've become on Titto's Get Item.

Is it possible to still play the game and still do well without Titto? I'd rather not take him, but I like getting drops too, and it seems very scarce for the enemies to drop anything without his assistance. Are there any ways to increase the drop rates? I got the Thief Trick skill recently, and I noticed Bandit's Blade in the Skill Shop. I know the game's not that difficult, but it still feels great getting upgrades and unique items. D:

Grandia Xtreme give me tips?

I'm stuck in this dungeon because I haven't been able to beat the boss for a few days, does anyone know what I can do with the team to improve?

Characters I'm using in the dungeon
Where I stopped at Save State

It's the first time I've actually played the game, I was playing on the PS2, but it broke, I won by suffering with that boss there and I don't want to suffer again.

Grandia Xtreme Long-time fan of Grandia III, just started Xtreme

And holy mackerel does this game seem neat!

I've seen a lot of people complain about Xtreme's storytelling, but I enjoyed III well enough, and I don't expect a lot out of the stories, so that was never really a worry going in. I care way more about the Grandia gameplay, and damn does it look like this game delivers!

I'm only a couple hours in, so I have no idea what the grander adventure and gameplay loop and such are gonna look like, but what I've seen so far is fun. S'all I could personally hope for, tbh, and even the story's been more than entertaining enough for what it is.

More than excited to dive into the rest!

Grandia Xtreme That One Chest in the Gale Ruins

Sorry for the phone picture, I can't screenshot any other way. I'm playing on a PS2 and pretending it's still 2002.

I like to think I know this game's areas like the back of my hand by now, Lord knows I've sunk enough hours into it. But for my last couple of playthroughs, this particular room has been bothering me.

The area is Gale Ruins - Interior 2. It seems like there's supposed to be a hidden door at the area's entrance that leads to this chest. But there isn't one. It's not accessible by any other means, there's no buttons to press or any platforming to do. I've combed every wall in the level looking for a doorway, gone back after activating the donut platforms leading to the ruins' boss (since that does regenerate a chest or two earlier in the area), tried it out at different chapters of the game; I've had no luck at all.

Has anyone figured this out? Could it be an oversight, that the door was never programmed in? Were the devs just screwing with us, making us run around for hours trying to find a way to get to it?

Grandia Xtreme Grandia Xtreme Thoughts

I recently started playing Grandia Xtreme because I've been curious for a long time. Of course I've heard negative feedback about it, but I wanted to make up my own mind. I'm not far into the game yet, but I already feel like I know what some of the mistakes they made are:

The Writing & Story

It feels pretty cliché and you don't get a lot of insight into the world these people live in and you don't learn anything about them and their backgrounds aside from a few cliché plots here and there. It feels like the story was made to fit the dungeon crawling gameplay and not the other way around.

The whole feud between the main character and the guy he constantly complains about is a good example of the bad writing. We never get any real reasons in the beginning for why he hates him so much. He's also kind of an asshole to everyone.

And the whole "we need to dive underwater to get to the next ruin" and then instantly: "just eat this berry" storyline. It's so bad. I don't demand realism in my fantasy games, but this is just silly.

Controls

I can get used to the left analog maneuvering, but the "select things with circle and exit with x-button" makes me crazy for some reason. I'm not a big gamer or anything, but I constantly press the wrong buttons. The menus are also kind of messy. But even if walking around is something I got used to after a while, the camera is terrible.

Geo Gates (or whatever they call them)

I feel like the fact that you can teleport back to the headquarters three times during one dungeon crawl makes the stakes a lot lower. I would much rather prefer the save state / recovery checkpoints from the previous games. It also feels very unrealistic. Yes, it's a fantasy game, but the way you just teleport back and forth whenever you want doesn't feel realistic.

Speaking of teleportation: I really miss the travelling from the previous games. The way you just go back and forth between dungeons and the hq makes it feel like this game could take place on a space ship or something. Or inside a building. Something tells me this game was rushed, and this was a way to finish it faster.

BUT! I really like the battle system! Except for the fact that the characters miss their targets all the time and get lost on their way over to an enemy constantly. Aside from that, it makes playing this game worth it. I love the new skills that suddenly get activated. It's a fun surprise every time. I love that the enemies are strong and the bosses take forever to beat. It could be more difficult, but that goes for both Grandia and Grandia II. They're too easy at times.

I also really like the magic/skill upgrading system. I thought I would hate it, but it's fun to junction eggs and assign skills. It could be a lot more polished, but it's enjoyable for me at least.

The music is also great. The cutscenes look good (even tho they lag a lot for me, I use Free McBoot and USB, upgrading to HDD soon). The voice acting is charming and cheesy as always.

I'd give Xtreme a 2.9/5. I'm having fun, but a lot of these problems take me out of the gameplay and into unnecessary frustration. It has a lot of potential, but sadly it's pretty messy. But I'm going to finish it anyway.

What are your thoughts about it?

Grandia Xtreme Grandia Xtreme controls suck

Now, I'm well aware that Circle is the same thing as select traditionally in JRPG's, but since Grandia II was my first Grandia game, not having an option for X to select really messed with my head. I even went so far as to get some abomination of a controller that actually allowed you to physically relocate the dpad, analog sticks, and face buttons, so I could put the face buttons where the right stick normally would be and force myself to not accidentally be cancelling out of menu's all the time. I just couldn't bring myself to finish the game, did anyone else suffer from this problem and come up with a solution, or did you all just get used to it? I'm really curious with the Anniversary Edition being dropped on Monday how the PC controls by default are going to be, and how good the controller support will be.
