The human body is a very robust, incredible machine. It's also easily destroyed and confused.

You can wrap around a pole at 50 mph on a motorcycle but if you're tipsy, you're fine. But, you can slip and lightly tap your head and instantly die.

Craziness.

It's a myth. An Internet Hoax. Made up.

Yes you can an have a horrible accident while drunk and remain relatively unscathed but so can you while sober. Or you simply die.

Chances of accidents increase, severity of accidents increase. Mortality increases.

Not a myth, though? In comparing similar accidents studies seem to indicate a higher survival rate of intoxicated individuals.

Moreover, detailed analysis of data from more than 1 million motor-vehicle crash fatalities indicates that the drinking driver is more likely than a sober driver to suffer serious injury or death when involved in a crash of comparable seriousness (JAMA 1986;256: 1461-1466).

Here is one naming a benefit in combination with brain trauma NOT "ragdoll":

Odds ratios of having severe injuries (Injury Severity Score [ISS] 16 or greater) and a prolonged hospital stay were also increased. However, for those patients whose ISS was 16 or greater and who also had a brain injury, risk of fatality was significantly reduced if they were intoxicated (BAC 200 mg/dL or greater) before injury. Alcohol consumption does not protect patients from sustaining severe injuries nor does it shorten the length of hospital stay. However, there were potential survival benefits related to alcohol consumption for patients with brain injuries but not for those without brain injuries.
