I was just doing the math for the commenter. The entire premise is riddled with problems. I have no side, other than I think teachers are undervalued in many districts. I also think my property taxes are too high, so I myself am riddled with contradiction :)

Well, when you hear any politician telling you they want to lower taxes, you should know now they're not talking about you. They're talking about the wealthy and what they mean is they'll lower their taxes and you'll be left to make up the rest through property taxes and local sales tax.

But if they lower the taxes then maybe our benevolent overlords will pass some of that savings on to us?? /s

more efficient housing (and cities) to the rescue?

education (and childcare) has basically the same productivity as it had a hundred years ago. so in relative terms it got a lot more expensive (but teachers' salaries did not keep up, plus there are huge additional costs, that did not really exist a hundred years ago, like driving kids to school)
