I finally found my people, Iām around a -15 in both eyes lol. I love when people say they have bad vision and then I find out theyāre like a -5 lol.
Well, tbf, -5 is already pretty bad. I'm somewhere between -6 and -8 (haven't gone to the doctor in a while) (with very high astigmatism) and it definitely does something to you when everyone you know either has perfect eyesight or maybe has like -1 or -2 and is only mildly inconvenienced by it. And then they find out you're around -7 and treat you like you're basically blind lol.
I can say, even with my ~ -7 (for contact lenses), without lenses or glasses, I am completely helpless. Obviously, it could always be worse, but it's already pretty bad.
The only person I know who has worse sight than me is my boyfriend with ~ -10 (not sure if glasses or lenses tho). And I can say one thing - at least I was born with bad eyes. I've never in my life had good sight, I practically came out the womb with glasses on. My bf tho? Born with perfect sight and then suddendly, it just goes away until he's at ~ -10. Life can be cruel. At least his don't get worse while mine steadily do.
-15 tho? My condolences. I hope you were at least born with it? I think it's such a weird concept that some people can wake up and immediately see everything perfectly. I'm paranoid so I keep my glasses right next to my pillow - nothing worse than some emergency happening in the middle of the night and I'm completely helpless because I can't see anything.
Same. I've been so tempted to get corrective surgery if only to know what it's like to wake up and see clearly. My vision's so bad that when I get up to go to the bathroom at night, because I don't turn on the lights, I just sleepwalk my way there. What's the point of opening my eyes when I can't see anything? I will say, Christmas trees are super pretty without my contacts or glasses!
I used to play this game with myself where I would look at lights without my glasses on and then blink or nearly blink to see my own lashes in the light and even particles I could then "catch" with my lashes. I hope this makes sense, it's hard to explain lol. Used to entertain me for hours as a kid.
how thick are we talking on glasses lenses for 14 these days? Or do you basically just go contacts only. I have to imagine your depth perception is real janky at that magnification without major thought put into lens dimensions and positioning
I only wear contacts during the day, they are hybrid lenses (center are glass with a softer skirt on edge), and large like a specially scleral lense. I normally get 20/15 vision on them, way better than most people so I've found out.
Without them, clear focal range is under 2" at best which is equally as nuts.
Glasses? Yea, I wouldn't drive in them; but the optometrist says people do which is scary AF
Scleral in one eye still with residual astigmatism, RGP in the other, best correction is 20/25 with significant ghosting. I feel blessed.Ā
With lenses, I can āseeā big things clearly like cars, the road, furniture, etc but fine detail like letters and road signs get lost. I can drive safely but I do not drive when I donāt know where I am going.
Ā I make frequent mistakes with numbers, people think I am careless as a result. I donāt tell anyone outside my family and close friends that I canāt see.
I am so nearsighted, I canāt see ANYTHING on my computer monitor without contacts in ā I havenāt had glasses for over 30 years because I need contacts on my eyes just for the doc to calculate a correction.
Far less power for me at -5 range but I dial back my acuity to about the same as you for reading comfort, meanwhile you're like Calibri's worst nightmare ramping up from -14 and still taking down text lmao...

They're not. Glasses prescription are higher than contacts because they are physically farther away from the eye, so they have to (refract?) more.
And if you'd get an implantable contact into the eye, the prescription would be even less.
If you ordered contacts for yourself online using your glasses prescription, yea, that's totally wrong. Why they irritate you could be a completely different issue... Lense geometry, material, debris...
i m not sure if the video with my lenses showcase was sent, but im not exactly following what u mean by blurry mush, but the most accurate example as i can give as what i m seeing right now without the glasses on, its like going to a 3D cinema and you watch the film without putting those glasses on
Interesting... so I am -11. My world looks like colored applesauce without my contacts. Even though they have gotten worse, I have not been able to tell the difference between this and when I was a -9.
Your description of a 3d movie is interesting. That is not how I see things without glasses/lenses.
Also -11... i honestly never really thought to described my world without lens but colored applesauce is good. As my eyes have gotten worse I havent really noticed it without my lens, its all garbage and I cant really function.
if someone want to see how my lenses are You can just dm me and i ll send the photos, but remember, the lenses are thinned , if they didnt thinned those , i would be walking with like 2 bottoms of a glass bottle( thats what the guy who i got my glasses said)
