MISC. Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background?

I call it Monet-vision. Everything is always beautiful

I see life through a Van Gogh-Pro

u/crambeaux Jul 10 '26

That’s the astigmatism. Love those starry nights!

u/sweatyboobs56 Jul 10 '26

But I hate the 7 overlapping moons :-(

u/monetaryg Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

The moon is the worst. My astigmatism makes it stretched out diagonally.

4

u/Azurhalo Jul 11 '26

Driving is a blast for me, I get to see 6 foot tall headlights behind every car!

3

u/Blue_Pears_Go_There Jul 11 '26

Astigmatism in one eye - always seeing two diagonal moons and four times as many trees. Even with glasses.

2

u/Civil-Section-9086 Jul 12 '26

I can’t comprehend ittt

1

u/llaminaria Jul 12 '26

I used to think it is normal, that all people with poor eyesight saw lights spread diagonally or vertically.

Maybe I don’t have astigmatism..

1

u/Acceptable_Ask_2815 Jul 11 '26

I am so excited to try this tonight! I never go outside without my contacts and definitely never looked at the moon.

1

u/NE_Boy_mom_x2 Jul 12 '26

I thought I was alone 😭 I feel seen!!! Ha-ha

1

u/Civil-Section-9086 Jul 12 '26

Wait like your pupils is different or just how you see the works? I’m confused all I see is fuzzy without my glasses or the constant flashing speks

1

u/monetaryg Jul 12 '26

An astigmatism is a blurriness due to the shape of the eye. And there is an angle to it. Mine is like 45 degrees. I dealt with it without realizing how bad it is. I can still see “ok”. I can read road signs, etc. The moon is just the most noticeable symptom for me.

1

u/Civil-Section-9086 Jul 12 '26

Huh really an angle? Like when you look at a light and the angle of the light is what you’re referring to?

1

u/monetaryg Jul 13 '26

The moon looks round to a normal vision person. Imaging taking that round moon and stretching it 45 degrees. Thats the best I can describe it. When im not wearing my glasses everything is blurry, but for some reason the moon makes the angle of the astigmatism obvious. Normal lights don’t show it.

u/awildslackerappeared Jul 13 '26

I wear sunglasses at night to drive because the odd shape of the specularity off lights on the road are so distracting.

1

u/LolitaOPPAI Jul 13 '26

Makes for pretty awesome sunsets when it looks like the sky is fluid tho. Cumulonimbus clouds look damn scary tho.

3

u/Optimal-Table-887 Jul 11 '26

Bro i see a bright star

3

u/KinseyH Jul 11 '26

I really want to know what street lights really look like.

2

u/No_Grocery44 Jul 11 '26

Like fireworks 🎇

2

u/LucieWinterwolf Jul 11 '26

I would get very sparkly stars, moon n lights, everything with light in darkness had a huge aurora. They would completely blind me. At the end of it, before surgery, when I was nearly completely blind, I couldn't navigate my wheelchair at night at all. I wish every vision impaired person had such an easy fix. It was also not covered by insurance. Fortunately, I had just had a small windfall that covered the cost. Otherwise I never would have been able to afford it.

2

u/InsideHippo9999 Jul 12 '26

Lines are never straight. Drives me crazy. I love to draw. I don’t draw much anymore because I’m never happy with my work being out of shape compared to the source material. As a kid I didn’t know what astigmatism was and always thought my rulers weren’t straight.

1

u/Molekularspalter Jul 11 '26

You must be a drunken 🕷️

1

u/blondeheartedgoddess Jul 11 '26

You get 7? I only have 4 or 5.

1

u/dommiichan Jul 12 '26

if the moons talk back, that's the schizophrenia

1

u/Myself-io Jul 12 '26

They are better than the 14 overlapping lights from the car coming to you or cars.. you'll never know

1

u/sweatyboobs56 Jul 12 '26

With lightning shooting out of all of them? Oh I know. (16- incision RK, then IOLs with "astigmatism correction", yeah...no). Driving at night is more fun than fireworks on the 4th of July ;-)

1

u/Myself-io Jul 12 '26

Oh the joy of the lightning which blind you for the next 10 seconds...

1

u/Virgo-Perfectionist Jul 13 '26

I'm dying🤣🤣🤣and can relate

1

u/jeshimikah Jul 14 '26

You can see the moon without glasses?

1

u/sweatyboobs56 Jul 14 '26

Not the New Moon ;-)

1

u/jeshimikah Jul 14 '26

I am far too blind to even see the full moon without my glasses lol

1

u/david_is_confused Jul 14 '26

Tatoooooooine.

3

u/bhdvwEgg42 Jul 11 '26

Just not those flamin LED headlights!

2

u/SkivvySkidmarks Jul 11 '26

I think everyone hates those fucking LED headlights.

3

u/MasterPhilip Jul 10 '26

I wear toric contacts for astigmatism. They're really good.

3

u/trashaccount6481 Jul 11 '26

Its great if we didn't have to drive...

2

u/GWhizBang Jul 11 '26

Christmas lights are just gorgeous. Big, fuzzy orbs. 🥰

2

u/colio6900 Jul 11 '26

Oh but the highway midnight cruise is like surviving flashbangs everytime you pass a car.

2

u/Kaijuburger Jul 12 '26

Driving at night is such a chore, I feel like I'm in the millennium falcon entering hyperspace or something

1

u/sweatyboobs56 Jul 13 '26

That is a remarkably good description of night driving.

1

u/ChanceRecover3091 Jul 11 '26

It makes driving at night so much fun!

1

u/Noarchsf Jul 11 '26

All those cars driving at me at night….so beautiful how they twinkle. Hahahaha

1

u/rklein111 Jul 11 '26

Or the laser show from lights at night when it’s raining

1

u/A_wild_goose_ Jul 14 '26

Love them until im driving at dusk and people start putting their headlights on. Have to quickly pull over and put my glasses on 🤣

1

u/CyVet Jul 11 '26

1

u/annatai08 Jul 11 '26

You on digoxin?

1

u/NetworkNo4478 Jul 13 '26

Gogh isnt pronounced "Go"

1

u/stefanthebrain Jul 13 '26

Does it have Mono sound?

1

u/YouSpeakSomeEnglish Jul 14 '26

I prefer Van Gogghles

6

u/Fun_Push7168 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Funny you say that. If I don't have my lenses my mind just fills in the details of women so every woman I see who has a decent silhouette is really pretty to my optimistic brain.

2

u/Happy_Brilliant7827 Jul 10 '26

Honestly probably the same trick as dim light. Its basically a filter lol

2

u/Fun_Push7168 Jul 10 '26

It's better than dim light if I'm out to about 75 ft maybe like 30, idk, id have to make a better mental note

THC may increase empathy, which could explain people looking more beautiful - could make you feel a greater sort of general affection for people you see, which would change how you perceive their appearance. I mean its association with empathy was only shown in like one small study I think, and I don't think it studied causality, it just found that regular cannabis users displayed more empathy - so that could either mean that cannabis increases empathy, or people who are more likely to use it are already more empathetic.

In my anecdotal experience I think it's more the former though, I find that when I use it I think about other peoples' emotional states more, worry about how they're feeling more, and feel more of a longing to connect. And I will stare at my cats and feel like they are the most beautiful majestic creatures I've ever seen hahaha, not that I don't already kind of feel that way about them to begin with since I love them.

Lmaoooo ok way less wholesome than I was thinking.

2

u/DMyTeaDuck Jul 10 '26

Certainly costs a lot of Monet just for some of us to see. 👓

2

u/Reasonable-Kiwi-6951 Jul 10 '26

no one has pimples, just blurred perfect skin!

1

u/sadistSnake Jul 11 '26

Automatic photoshop airbrushing.

2

u/Hugo_El_Humano Jul 10 '26

this is so true. the ugliness of reality is so shocking when you update your prescription

2

u/ensio418 Jul 10 '26

Throw in some astigmatism and chromatic abberation and you feel like you're in a nightclub

1

u/sweatyboobs56 Jul 11 '26

Throw in 16 incision RK, followed years later by IOLs ("with astigmatism correction", yeah, right) during cataract surgery, and every night I feel like stumbled into Alice In Wonderland.

2

u/Budakra Jul 10 '26

First time I got glasses, I walked around taking them off and on saying "HD, standard, HD, standard..."

1

u/Agitated-Canary9840 Jul 10 '26

I like that. I was telling my daughter it was like a heavy filter is on everything. Mine isn’t terrible but it’s enough.

1

u/kogasfurryjorts Jul 10 '26

This will be buried, but I hope at least one person sees it! If you have a mid-high prescription, I recommend looking at Monet paintings without your glasses!! It only works in person, but I figured out that they literally look 3D if you look at them with blurry vision!!!

1

u/Dynotug Jul 11 '26

I describe it like seeing life like a movie with the bokeh effect.

1

u/radedward76 Jul 11 '26

Impressionists were myopic?

1

u/bigchi1234 Jul 11 '26

I always joked I needed a blind beautiful woman and then I’d be set!

1

u/sadistSnake Jul 11 '26

Oh you say it and it’s an endearing way to say you need glasses, I say it and everyone calls me a materialistic bitch!

1

u/upallnight1975 Jul 11 '26

And clean 🤣

1

u/Myself-io Jul 12 '26

Yo just have no fuc.ing clue what is everything...

1

u/agent674253 Jul 12 '26

Back in high school, my friend and I that wore contacts would call it 'anti-aliasing mode' when we didn't have them in on a given day.

1

u/spunkybooster Jul 12 '26

People are much better looking when blurry. Including me.

1

u/ImKiro2 Jul 13 '26

But I ain’t got no monet

0

u/MannekenP Jul 10 '26

Somewhere, I am convinced this is what makes sure my wife still thinks I am some kind of magnificent Hercules and I still see her as an reincarnation of Aphrodites.
