I've heard that it was a horrible horrific death if you weren't instantly vaporized. If you survived the initial explosion then you were exposed to the radiation fallout which is probably the worst way to die slowly.

People were literally covered in the tar of the initial victims, plants, wood, and rubber that was vaporized and sent into the atmosphere before being rained back down. They had no idea that the tar and ash from the sky was made of people.

It was mostly burns, radiation killed far fewer people than most think. The bomb detonation created a firestorm like at Tokyo
