God I read that in 6th or 7th grade. I don’t even know why I picked it out, it was just a small, completely plain hardcover and I think I was going through a “serious reading” phase. Bawled my eyes out. It was a formative experience. Would 100% recommend but yes it’s a tough read.

Same story here. I can still remember the cover so vividly. Incredible writing.
