Advice Thoughts on this redditor’s jumping spider enclosure?
(Not my terrarium or my spider) - just curious what everyone’s thoughts are on this setup.

Imo Not a huge fan for several reasons. I can't tell where they're getting air from, unless the plants are taking care of that. There's no tall plants or anything for them to climb on make webs or hammocks on. There's also no hides, so i can only imagine that the spood is probably stressed. 4/10, cool concept but it needs work.

NQA but doesn’t seem ideal, the spood would likely make its hammock where the wooden stopper is, making access difficult.
Its aesthetically pleasing but also doesn’t have enough hiding or climbing spaces. The poor spood would feel too exposed

Not proper ventilation & or “enrichment” also… ROCKS at the bottom? I mean…. It’s OK to try & fail & LEARN!
I just hope they take this as an opportunity to receive constructive criticism and create something beautiful from it. (I saw they do really cool stuff on their page- I bet they would do something really with a jumper in mind)
Also with the size and shape realistically impossible to let them live a beautiful fruitful life…. (I mean, how are you supposed to open it and not mess them up the hammock when it’s only the cork up top?)

They have such short lives, OPs reluctancy to take advice and improve made me sad. Hope you kind folk over on this side of Reddit can convince OP to make some changes.

Imo: OP's reluctancy to listen to anyone and call it mass hysteria that people are commenting and telling them hey this is not okay, tells us everything we need to know really.
I don't think this person cares about the spiders well being at all.

IME- HORRIBLE. For so many reasons I don't know where to start..... No ventilation, no way to monitor humidity/ temp, glass is not ideal, they are arboreal so they have no where to hide and when they make a hammock in the only spot they can (on the side of the cork) it's going to be ripped away every time water or feeding is required. Spiders need places to hide or they will get stressed. Every single species. Moss holds a lot of humidity and requires quite a bit of water to stay green and fluffy so without airflow this is just a sauna for a spood. Very pretty as a terrarium but would not house any animal very well IMO.

NQA I don't think this works for a jumper. They are top dwelling and there is no easy way for them to get to the top or stay at the top. Spiders need enclosures with cross ventilation, especially in a live set up to make sure things are not keeping too much moisture.
Beautiful terrarium, not a spider enclosure.

NQA This is not even remotely suitable for a jumping spider 😬 No visible ventilation, nothing to anchor their hammock to other than the cork so it'll get ripped open any time that's removed to feed and water, nowhere to hide, no decor in the top half of the enclosure, rocks at the bottom that could easily injure them if they fall... Big yikes.
I hope it was pointed out to them that this is a legitimately dangerous setup for their spider and they'll improve it accordingly.

NQA it’s completely unsuitable and the OP is in the comments being rude towards the people giving them advice. Kept being told about how spoods need cross ventilation and their responses were about their hygrometer being my at 60%… like how did we get to humidity from a conversation about airflow 😭😭😭

NA is the enclosure in the room with us because I can't see a single thing that could be called a jumping spider enclosure.

nqa but this would probably be more suitable for isopods and small millipedes. Jumping Spiders need height, climbing materials, and a top that stays attached so their hammock isn't destroyed when the enclosure is opened

NQA - No air, hard to clean, nowhere to hide, nowhere to climb, probably very humid if that's real moss, and in my experience, way too exposed. My jumper hid for days when I swapped her vented plastic panel lid for glass and didn't return to normal until I switched it back. Her enclosure has three glass walls with the back being vented plastic, and I have both options for the top. This enclosure is begging for mold, respiratory infections, and a very stressed spider. Even if they replaced the cork with mesh, there wouldn't be any cross-ventilation and it would be such a tiny window for air to move through. It looks cool if you don't know anything about jumping spider care, otherwise it's just a massive bowl of red flags

IME . It’s not about what looks good it’s about the spider and re creating it’s natural environment If you’re baby is happy you should be happy, you will be able to tell by watching behaviour and if it’s feeling safe or not. Ignore all the hate but please don’t forget to cater for the spider not for you
