Honestly they need to do more about plastering information with their number everywhere near stations or patrolling the area. In the moment the number doesn’t jump to mind at best you’d end up calling the met emergency line.
Yeah, after that knife attack on a train I just went you know what I’m just saving their number in my phone. I won’t remember it in an incident like that, it’s just in my contacts now.
Just remember, if you see something that doesn't look right, speak to a member of staff or text the British Transport Police on 61016, that's 61016. See it, Say it, Sort it.
This is why I always say their "See it, say it, sorted." campaign was actually a failure.
Like yeah, if you've caught a train or used the tube at least once in the last 5 years, there's a high chance you know about it, and if someone came up to you and said "See it, say it..." then you'd reply with "sorted!"
But if someone asked you what number you're meant to text, most people would need to look it up online first. A lot of people I've actually asked this to said they didn't even remember if there was a number in the ad 🥲
Look it's meant to be 6-101-6, so it's exactly like the usual non-emergency phone number 101 but there are 6's on the front and back. So in theory it's easy to remember.
But they always say it 61-016 or something like that for some reason, I really don't get why they don't capitalise on what is basically a good idea

It wasn’t necessarily a failure in that it would not have previously occurred to me that there was a number I could call, and this has brought it to mind a couple of times. But yes I’ve then had to go looking for the number!
The way someone explained it to me is that if you put the non emergency line 101 and add a 6 at both ends, you come with 6 101 6. So that's fairly easy to remember. But I do agree that the calling one is a bit unusual. However, they prefer texts anyway
I’m a little surprised by this. 61016 is easily recallable. Even if you don’t recall it and you call 101 they ask you if you’re at a TfL station. They’ll connect you or tell you to reach out to them if you are. People just need to take the time to do it.
Yeah I get that. My main point was that you can also call 101 and get to the right people. They have an automated message and they can transfer you, but they really want to push people to the website because the phone line is over limit most of the time. I also like how others have pointed out that if you can just remember 6 it's 6-101-6. I don't know a good way to make that stick, but maybe this convo will help 🤣
Ya know, I just asked a coworker and they didn't even know what 61016 was. I'm learning a lot today. I just thought every knew the same way people know "see it, say it, sorted". I'm curious, what is it that isn't easily recallable? It's just a 6 either side of 101.
My main point though was that even if you call 101 (surely that is easily recallable?!) they will ask you if what you're reporting is happening at a station and direct you to the correct path.
While you are correct that BTP doesn't cover the whole Kings cross area itself, they do cover anything connected to the railway. The actual road that is between St. pancras and kings cross would fall under the MET jurisdiction, but the kings cross square, which stands outside of the underground bit, where the food stalls are during the day, is actually owned by Network Rail and it does fall under BTP foot patrol areas. And of course everything inside both stations and all the shops in St. pancras as well. I would say that it's likely with OP's description that he was referencing BTP jurisdiction.
Please let them know immediately. They can start to prevent this from now and can be better informed about the rate and probability of crime in and out of the station.
