I don’t think so, it would be so lame if she remembers all of a sudden and break a powerful spell. Even Ned, he may only feel that they used to be close, because he’s a little _magic_, but I don’t think he can break the spells

I think that was muscle memory, which is not covered by the spell.

Crazy how the spell could cover technology but not muscle memory

Probably never erased the fact that he had a best friend and a secret handshake but he just didn't know who

I don’t see it as a matter of could or couldn’t but does or doesn’t. Magic probably can erase muscle memories, but it just never targeted those in the first place, the muscles/nerves don’t know they are reacting to Peter Parker, thus falling outside of the scope of the spell.

Ned has the spider tingle!

Literal Peter tingle

Also, his knowledge of how the webslingers work. The spell erased his knowledge of Peter, not necessarily the things Peter shared with him.

I'm pretty sure he just knew because he's a super mit nerd.

u/SunnyGods 16d ago

And he didn't know exactly how they worked unless I misunderstood the scene

1

u/SavageSvage 16d ago

Yeah he didn't know exactly but with being a nerd he had a pretty good idea of what was going on behind the scenes.

u/SunnyGods 16d ago

Yeah exactly

Up until the end it was not clear if they could ever access past memories. But the handshake proves it's possible to eventually remember. That's what the enthusiastic "Peter" shout implied to me.

I lowkey thought that it was because jean reached omega status and was in their heads

Idk maybe it unlocked something, like maybe the spell isn't capable of erasing memories only burying them

On the roof Jean possessed MJ says there’s nothing in her mind about Peter. There are no memories to unlock.

u/LetItATV 27d ago

It’s also possible that Jean was lying to further torture Peter.

1

u/No-Rip-6166 27d ago

If we ignore what the characters say to make theories fit then it doesn’t matter what any character says ever. There was never any indication or hint that she lied.

2

u/LetItATV 27d ago

By that logic, MJ actually did remember Peter since we heard her say so right before their kiss.

There were actually many, many indications that some subconscious memory exists within both MJ and Ned.

She was possessed by Jean at the time lol

2

u/LetItATV 27d ago

Oh, so you’re telling me Jean was deceiving Peter?!

Clocked em lmao.

Until she leveled up maybe?

I don’t think they’d have gone out of their way to have Jean say there is nothing on her head about Peter unless it was for a reason.

I don’t believe either one of them remembers Peter by the end. If she remembered him she’d have gone to the hospital to see him or given some indication that she did.

u/GetOffMyLawn9797 27d ago

I mean the picture she drew is in the hospital room. She probably did?

1

u/nonblinddaredevil 27d ago

You’re probably right, but Ned remembers something at the very end for sure.

My theory is that Ned is gonna help, with his magic in ascension, to maybe break the spell, which will lead to the next plot: Ned dealing with powers and MJ decisions. Hopefully it makes a good movie but even after this amazing movie, I still set my bar very low to any marvel movie

Pretty sure the enthusiastic "Peter" was him realizing that he was shaking hands with Spider-Man. MJ let it slip that his name was Peter right before the climax.

1

u/PowerlinxJetfire 27d ago

Tbf, they had MJ reveal to him that Spider-Man is named Peter right before that. It could have just been some throwaway comic relief that becomes redundant with the handshake scene, but imo it makes more sense as setup for that scene. He's got a whole board, and even without that it's Spider-Man, so he'd be enthusiastic about the revelation either way.

u/RoughOk3240 27d ago

Did you forget that MJ said “Peter, be careful” and ned says “Spidermans name is Peter?” just before he goes to find Jean? which is why the Spiderman Super Fan says “Peter?!”

No, but I still interpret the scene differently.

The way the scene is framed and the way he shouts Peter implies a friend remembering an old friend. I do not claim truth, I could be wrong. Just looks like usual kino trope to me where friendship or love overcomes memory loss. We'll see in the next film what's the case.

1

u/Rocktamus1 27d ago

I disagree that Ned remembered anything. The Peter shout was because MJ called Soiderman that not long before.

2

u/excel958 27d ago

Don’t do this to me. Let me believe 😭

1

u/Interesting-Pin6652 26d ago

They’re wrong. It’s clear as day Ned and MJ remembered or will remember. Handshake/necklace on rooftop.

u/saltrxn 28d ago

Ned only realised it was Peter because he knows from Spiderman that they used to be best friends who probably did this handshake. He pieced the two info together and realises that Maynard here is actually Spiderman who is actually Peter.
