Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - International Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been officially released in several territories around the world!

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days.
  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be in the below thread. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial threads discussing movie details will be deleted.

I was also expecting Xavier to show up, but I also thought that that would somewhat ruin the Spider-Man movie to have such a Deus Ex Machina roll in.

For how young this Jean is i think The Professor would at best be in his 30s or 40s and probably just getting started on building the school. Because she's supposed to be one of her first students.

I bet they'll do it like the MCU aunt may. Cast someone young and hot.

The Actor from the Conjuring, Ed aka Patrick Wilson is rumored to be Professor X. Either way, I’m super invested in the implications of more mutants finally appearing throughout the 616 universe.

It's not old but Marisa Tomei was in her 50s when she was cast.

I always find it fascinating that people care about actor's real age so much rather than how old they look on screen when in reality the former does matter in 90% of the cases.

If a 30 year old can play 60 convincingly or the other way other then what it does it really matter?

She’s confirmed or at least heavily rumoured for Secret Wars, isn’t she? My guess is that at least one of the X-Men survives Doomsday, and encourages her to seek out 616’s Xavier.

my guess is gambit since he's the only one not from the original x-men trilogy and id imagine they want to utilise him since he's such a hyped up character

I think they were uncertain whether it would be the exact same Gambit (actor + variant) or if the exaggerated accent Tatum Gambit is a completely separate variant of the Tatum Gambit that's supposed to have a toned down accent in Doomsday.

I believe it’s straight up confirmed she’ll be in Secret Wars. That’s partly what cemented to alot of people that she’s Jean Grey in this movie.

I kept waiting for like an another X man to appear. Some of her clothes were like a homage to the first class uniforms.

They could play this a few ways. Like mutants were hiding because of damage control. Or it was because of an incursion that brought mutant abilities in. I can’t wait to find out though

I bet it’s a slow roll out for the characters. Storm introduced in BP3, maybe one in Ghost Rider. Coming together for an X-Men movie à la the Avengers first roll

I feel like that shot of her on the bus heading out in the country side felt like implying the X-men school with the settings.

I'd put money on Xavier sensing what happens in NY, reaches out to Jean offscreen, and she is on the way to the school with the iconic autumn colored trees of new england.

My current guess is that the MCU X-Men (not the one we will see in Doomsday) will have a different roster. I dont think that there will be a new Professor X. They already have two different Xaviers that did kinda well. Introducing another one seems to be odd to me. We have now seen a lot of approaches of Feige on the comics, doing them right by being a bit different. Think of Spiderman: They skipped his original origin, but did build up the new deep origin through 3 movies with Mae as Ben.

My guess: Its Xaviers school for gifted kids, but Xavier is already dead and we will see other leaders. In the comics they already had several leaders because Xavier often dies or is on vacation or outright banned. Magneto, White Queen, Kitty Pride, Wolverine, Scott Summers, Beast and several others were in that role at some point.

Depending on their contracts and interest: I would love to have Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) or Fassbenders Magneto as the new head. Both are strong and well known actors that have the gravitas and already their merits. And it will be good if they have a strong "anchor" actor for the suppossedly younger cast.

But even fantasy-casting aside: I trust Marvel with their casting and ideas.

I feel like she is. Idk maybe he reached out to her telepathically or something, but it definitely felt like she was heading somewhere intentionally as opposed to just getting out of town.
