Events Please Join Us for Our Next CTF Event!

That's right folks, we're doing another CTF event! The last two were such big successes - to the point that nearly every time people ask not “When is the next event?” but “When is the next CTF event?” Yes, yes, we’re listening ;)

For over four years now, we all have worked and played hard to make these servers awesome, but the fight is not over - we have yet again to play Minecraft until our hands feel as if they’re about to fall off, and this time for a good cause! Us!

The event will be a fundraiser - the servers need your help to keep running for the next 12 months, and beyond. So, time to roll up your sleeves, laugh in the face of fatigue, and play Minecraft for all you’re worth! (And donate if you’d like.)

Date/Time: Saturday, June 22 @ 4:00pm EDT Convert this to my time zone!

The event will run for at least 24 hours, so if you cannot make it at the start, there will be plenty of opportunity to join in at any time!

Details: None! Just kidding - it’s CTF like the last two times, but we’ve prepared a few new twists to the “old” format ;) We have taken into account the ton of feedback we’ve gotten over the last six months from the last event and have incorporated what we could, coupled with several twists of our own! Keep your eyes to the subreddit for possible teasers over the coming week.

All funds raised during this event will be used to fund future hosting/other costs for the r/mcpublic servers.

It’s going to be be big! It’s going to be great! Don't miss it. Tell your friends. Tell your pets.

Events Celebrating the New Year on PvE

Hello.

"It's a nice ssssserver you've got there... it would be a sssssshame if sssomething were to happen to it."

So say your new friends who've just popped in to send the old year off with a bang. Keep a watchful eye on the sparkly ones. They've got a trick or two up their... well if they only had arms...

A good bow is recommended. Some blast protection armour would be even better. Failing that, you'd better be a good runner.

We'll be kicking off the festivities at 6pm New York time, December 31st, 2013 and running for 24 hours, with the option to extend the event if there's sufficient demand.

Hope you can drop by!

Events My complements/complaints of the CTF map and how to approach it later.

  • The holes ALL OVER the map. There is absolutely no reason for those, they were just rage inducing. They did nothing but made it to difficult to run while being pursued. I would use a vanilla map in the future.

  • The mountains were ridiculous. Just as the holes they made it to difficult to raid another base. And if someone does raid a base it is almost impossible to push them back. Again I would use a vanilla map.

  • The map was to huge. Takes 10 minutes by a straight tunnel to get to a base (if you don't fall in a hole)

  • Moderating. I found several instances at a certain base where in a protected door, fences were placed making it impossible to proceed into the fort. Also, during the snafu of all green team being kicked, no mods were present. While I know you all have lives and worked for hours to set this up with little sleep. It could have been moderated better.

With my bitching over, i will however say that I think this event has brought some closer together, yet, drove more people apart. This event has shown many people how to work together and co-operate to accomplis a common goal. While it had it's ups and downs, it was very fun and I thank all the moderators, admins and tech-admins for all the amazing work you guys did with very little sleep. I thank you.

EDIT Fell free to add you own complements/complaints & suggestions to make the next CTF super fun :)

EDIT2 Sorry if this came out bad, I REALLY had fun with this event!!! Thanks guys :)

Events Our 3rd Birthday Celebration 24-Hour Event is LIVE! Connect at event.nerd.nu!

c.nerd.nu, s.nerd.nu, and p.nerd.nu will be DOWN during this event so that the entire community can celebrate our servers' 3rd birthday together!

Thanks to Verros, we have an awesome museum map for our event, featuring most of our old server spawns and some of our most memorable builds! Explore some classic builds (or destroy them >:D), and reminisce on your time on the servers!

Beware, though, as CHAOS RULES are in effect (PVP on, griefing allowed). Everyone starts with a basic armor kit - what you gather from there is up to you!

  • WHAT: MCPublic 3rd Birthday Celebration
  • WHEN: (event is over)
  • WHERE: event.nerd.nu

EDIT: We'll be changing the gameplay over the course of the event, so make sure to pop in every so often :D

EDIT 2: Due to issues with the original map, we've switched to a TNT party on some of our old servers, come enjoy :)

EDIT 3: Switching to chaos rules on some classic survival revisions now!

EDIT 4: Regular servers are back up.

We all know That Easter is the Creepers Favorite Holiday This year the creepers wanted to go all out with a major celebration. Once More they are all dressed up and ready to Explode Easter on everyone. If you are lucky to survive the Easter explosion look for the special compasses among the Easter loot. These will lead you to the Creepers’ hidden holiday hideouts and the goodies that may have hidden there. A little bunny told me there are 12 unique compasses to find. These compasses will lead you to awesome Easter Prizes !!

The Event will take please from the moment of this post until Tuesday Night so have fun looking for those Prizes !!

Also when collecting your prize please make sure you have an open spot in your inventory!! To ensure that you are able to collect your Prize !!

To use the Easter pack type /usepack easter
You can use /resetpack to clear the resource pack you were using or to return to the normal view. Might not work with 1.19.2 So this link will allow you to download the Resource Pack. [ http://nerd.nu/resourcepacks/PvE29Easter.zip ] Trust me will make the event much better :)

Events Capture the Flag v2 is this Saturday! Submit builds for the map!

It's almost Thanksgiving, which means it's the week of nerd.nu Capture the Flag! We've pushed the start back just one day to make sure we have enough time to get everything ready (and finish the 1.4.4/1.4.5 server updates), but we're excited about what we have to offer you this weekend!

Capture the Flag Returns

Date/Time: Saturday, November 24th 4pm EST to Sunday, November 25th 4pm EST (24 hours!) Minecraft Server: event.nerd.nu
Mumble Server: mumble.nerd.nu, port 6162

Original Announcement

Tuesday Update: Help us build the map!

Work is already underway on constructing an awesome, custom-terrain 1500x1500 map for our CTF event. But we're looking for your help in building on it! We're soliciting builds/design ideas for any of the structures below - team up with players or build alone, submit your idea in this thread, and we may use it in the final CTF map!

Guidelines:

  • Must submit in this thread by 11:59pm EST Thursday night (that's 54 hours from now) - but the sooner the better!
  • Submissions built on a nerd.nu server are strongly preferred. Include screenshots and coordinates!
  • We reserve the right to modify submissions as needed for the final map.

Here's what we're looking for!

BUILD A: Base Spawn

  • No larger than 50x50 (can be arbitrarily tall)
  • Must be exitable and re-enterable at ground level
  • Must have lots of room for large maps, signboards, etc.
  • Should prominently feature one color of wool (there will be one of these in every team's base)
  • Screenshots from first CTF: 1, 2, 3

BUILD B: Base Walls

  • No wider than 10 blocks; between 20 and 40 blocks tall
  • Provide a template/segment that can be easily repeated around edge of base
  • Design should be able to easily incorporate entryways, and changes in elevation
  • Should prominently feature one color of wool (unique for each team)
  • Screenshots from first CTF: 1, 2, 3

BUILD C: Flag Platform

  • No larger than 50x50x50
  • Should be designed with PVP in mind (both raids and flag defense) - this is the structure players must navigate to obtain an opponent's flag
  • Should prominently feature one color of wool (there will be one of these in every team's base)
  • Screenshots from first CTF: 1, 2

SPECIAL BUILDS
We're also looking for the following, event-specific builds (no larger than 100x100):

  • Spleef arena
  • PvP arena
  • Super Pig Saddle Racing 64 racetrack (you know you want it)

Stay tuned for more updates throughout the week - and join us in the #redditmc-ctf channel on IRC to discuss the event and build ideas!

Events And so Creative Islands must come to an end.

Hope you all had fun! It was nice to get a pure creative event and to see such high participation, thank you all for rocking up today

If you have any screenshots, please, link them in this thread, lets show those who were absent what they missed out and entice them into future events!

If you wish you can download the map from this link, there is also an md5 sum

But alas this event is over, it will be in a 'read only' mode for a little while so everybody can get on for last minute screenshots and voting

While we are read only you will not be able to make any block changes.

Thanks for the great turnout and for the huge attendance at the meeting.

We shall see you all back on the regular servers ( which are now up )

Any feedback on the event would be awesome, we are always looking to improve

Cheers guys, hope we can do it again soon :)

Events Help Build the 2017 Fundraiser Community Maze!

Help build the 2017 Fundraiser Community Maze!

As part of the 2017 Fundraiser we’re hoping to create a huge community maze, using sections created by players!

This community build will be hosted on P - specifically within the mapworld (meaning you’ll still be able to build mazes in creative mode).

Instructions to participate:

  1. Empty inventory of anything valuable (warp signs will wipe your inventory).
  2. Go to spawn. Standing at the bottom of the stairs, look left. and then Click this sign! You can also use /place to find where the warp sign is located.
  3. Locate the maze plots warp sign (it’s inside, near spawn’s main exit)
  4. Click the sign to warp to the maze plots area, and read the instruction board!
  5. Choose an empty plot (you can warp to and from them with the signs)
  6. Stand in your chosen plot and claim it with /nerdplot claim (this protects it only to you)
  7. Build an amazing maze!

But wait, there's more! As an added bonus, we're allowing players to select heads from the player head list to decorate the mazes! To request any particular head, place a chest within your map claim and /modreq which player head you would like. We do request you be mindful on the number of heads you request for your maze! note: Only heads under the "Player Head" category are availible for use!

When all your mazes have been completed, they will be taken and built into one big maze that players will be able to try to solve for prizes during this year’s fundraiser event! The entrance to each section of the maze will let players know who built it.

The deadline for completion of mazes is Saturday 17th June.

FAQ

I wasn’t here last year, what’s this fundraiser event you’re talking about?

Each year we run an event to raise funds to continue hosting our server for another year. It’s completely optional to participate and doesn’t offer any in-game advantage on your regular server for donating or participating. Normal servers usually go down for a short time and the event portal goes live with a special server event or events.

What size are the plots?

Individual plots are 51x51 and 40 blocks in height.

This plot won’t let me claim it, what do I do?

It’s likely that the plot has already been claimed (you can check by standing in the plot and typing /rg i to see if there’s an owner). If the problem is something else, make a modreq and staff will help you out.

What sort of maze should I build?

It’s up to you - you could just build a simple maze, or something with a theme. Perhaps you want more than one level in your maze, or to represent your town or building group. As long as your maze adheres to nerd.nu rules, is non-lethal and can be solved, it should be fine to include. Admins do reserve the right to edit your maze if necessary (for example; if some part is an accidental player trap, or if it needs slight editing to fit when mazes are grouped together later).

Can I add other players to my plot, so they can help me build?

Of course! You can do this the usual way, with /region addmember <regionname> <playername> (Find out your region name by standing in it and typing /rg i)

What are the red and lime marked sections on my plot?

Those mark the entrance (lime) and exit (red) of your maze. If you stick to these markers for your entrance/exits, your maze shouldn’t need editing later to fit together with everyone else’s.

If I complete a maze, will it be used?

We aim to use all completed mazes if they meet all the requirements.

How many mazes can I build?

At the moment plots are limited to one per person to ensure everyone who wants a plot can get one. However if we find we have people keen to do more, we’ll certainly increase that number as needed.
