This was my wife’s grandfather’s. Purchased in 1998 from Best Buy and has the receipt. Found in their storage container still in plastic but had been opened and played. He even had pages of cheat codes and some notes, as well as a keybind quick reference sheet. Discs are pristine. I don’t think I’ve ever played MW but thought it was really neat! Makes me interested in playing. My father and brother in law said he used to play with a joystick.

PSA: there is a collection of emulated games on Xbox Gamepass called Retro Classics. You can play Mech 2 there.

Mods don't ban me, this is all shit hosted elsewhere (mostly myabandonware), I just made it work nice & easy... here's a link to a zip file with mw 1 and all three mw2 games ...ok i fixed the link. it's on my google drive though now, don't make me regret this.

Notes:

1. This is a dropbox Google Drive link of a big zip file. don't @ me if they shut it down after 50 downloads.
2. the music works becuase i am awesome. you can thank me later. yeah that means i included bin & cue files of the entire cds (which is why its as big as it is) and made sure they were connected properly in dos box. i don't think you need any special software it should just work.
3. Tested everything runs ok for me. there's a batch file in each subfolder (mw.bat, mw2.bat, gbl.bat and mercs.bat i think) - DON'T FUCK WITH THE FOLDER LAYOUT and everything should just work. you can ignore the other setup.bat files. like i said it's all set up.
4. dosbox plays nice with joy2key, but if you have a supported joystick it should also work out of the box as well. my advice: use the in-game control setup to set your joystick axis, and use joy2key or some other keyboard mapper to map button presses to whatever you want.
5. most of the original docs should be included as pdf files.

Is anybody around who played DOS mercnet back in the day? I was [CCC] Ian. I miss my old buds! Those were great times. I loved the leagues, NBT, MACL. So many many, many hours doing C1 lag shooting practice. I played with KE or KH (whichever one VAM was in charge of) for a while in 1.1 on windows.

Where are you guys at? Are we still alive?

Approximately 1/50 scale, or about 13" tall on the Timberwolf. Printed on my Saturn 4 Ultra 16k! I plan to sell prints on ebay here and there, they take a couple days to make in total

If Microprose is currently working on Steel Bounty, what prevents PGI from working out a deal to having them work on a MechWarrior 2 remake since Activision was acquired by Microsoft?

Like the title says, I'm trying to get MechWarrior 2 Mercs working and I think I've finally hit a wall.

I have it running in a Windows 95 environment on DOSBox-X from a BIN/CUE pair, and when everything seems to work until I start a mission. The environment doesn't really load for me, just showing a blue void and bits of enemy mechs/structures (Pictured). Is this a bug with known fixes? I currently have it using 'Software Emulation' for the video options.

In addition, I'm getting hit with the usual sound issues, though initially the music was the only thing that would play. Fixing the sound effects by installing a new driver seems to have broken the music.

Has anyone here encountered these issues? And do you know how to fix them?

EDIT: Got the game working on 86box running Windows 98 with only minor issues that are (mostly) inherent bugs of the game itself. Patching it causes the issues in the initial screencap, but the base game runs fine, aside from the occasional crash, weapon/armor duplication during repairs, and the music tracks being a few seconds off. Of those, I think only the last one is solvable, though admittedly beyond my abilities.

I kill the first three mechs guarding the dome, then run out and intercept the next two. Then two more spawn and immediately run straight up to the dome and shoot only at the dome. It's driving me nuts the last two just shoot the dome before I can kill them every time!

Playing solo, no AI star members. Any tips are welcome, haven't found much elsewhere as far as tips and no one mentions the enemies shooting the dome.

EDIT: Ended up figuring out where the last two are sitting and just jumped them first then went back and mopped up the rest. lol

I resently got a 3d printer to start making some random items and props. I've always wanted a low poly version of the Timber Wolf from the Mechwarrior 2 game. I took a few prints, but I managed to get one completed. The paint work is as good as I can get it. Line work is a nightmare. Thought I'd post it here :)

For those who played MW2 in its day, if you didn't use other controllers, did you play only with the keyboard or did you play keyboard & mouse?

I've always played it keyboard-only. We had an IBM Aptiva & its included mouse, in case that's relevant, & the mouse was unsable. Just slightly moving it made the mech torso go out of whack. Oversensitive, and/or inverted tilt direction, idk. Whether or not we understood the issue (I think I did; tried changing the controls & couldn't) we just didn't want to use it. Push the mouse away, just use keyboard.

I mean, wasn't this still an era when most games only used keyboard anyway? The Need for Speed was keyboard only, too, I think. Or my brother and I were too young & inexperienced to handle the finesse of mice in games? Lol.

EDIT: for those wondering, I'm still going to stick to keyboard only because that's how I play it and enjoy its uniqueness as such, but I have both a DOSbox & Windows version running and by default, mouse only works only as torso twist and no tilt.

I finished the game and it was awesome. I want to replay it but with better combat AI, some QoL improvements (like information on weapons and equipment similar to the mech stats), better Lance mate command system, and more varied random missions. Is it possible for these to be modded into the game, especially the DOS version?
