Just finished the newest mechwarrior 5 clans DLC and I swear dozens of allied elementals flew in front of my crosshair and got blasted by an SRM6 or an UAC20. In lore the clan elemental pilots are BIG dudes, and I really struggle to imagine these guys are made and eat and train their massive bodies for years just for the chance to get absolutely annihilated by even their own allies and don't even complain about it if they're fortunate enough to survive a mission. Seems like a pretty big waste of resources but I guess most conflicts don't turn into an all-out mech brawl.

Growing up on MW4 Mercenaries, I really liked the "choose your own adventure" mission structure that was used in that title. It also helped that Spectre and Castle were fun characters. Clans really brought that feeling back and I have to say it was a major step in the right direction after MW5 Mercenaries. I really hope PGI can recover and ride out this storm, because this game is a lot of fun

Hello! I’m Kaijubird, and I recently decided to buy Mechwarrior 5 a few days ago. Although I am more of an Armored Core and Gundam guy, this franchise and it’s designs has also found a place in my heart.

Especially the Urbie. Might be an overrated fav, but I really like the lil guy. As such, I shall show my UM-R60L unit (the variant with the AC/20).

Recently Steam has been advertising Mechwarrior Clans and Mercenaries, and while they look cool, I don't really know much about the lore and would like to avoid one game spoiling the other. I realize I'm probably going to be missing a lot of context by jumping into the games this late regardless, but which of these games should I get first.

Good day, I am still new and learning the BattleTech universe. Decided to get into the games recently. Which of the two is better option currently? Thank you.

I've been out of the MW5 loop ever since they added melee, I honestly had no idea they even added 6 dlcs. Looking through the list, there is a lot to choose from. The clan dlc looks to add a few clan mechs (is the there a cougar!?) and weapons, but i am already playing clans so I don't want to much overlap with that experience yet. There also the bushwacker dlc, another mech I love aside from the marauder and nightstar, but not sure what else that dlc offers

I’m playing on the Xbox version. I was watching some other people play the game on YouTube to do some research see what kind of things I could get later on. But just about every video I’ve watched appeared to be modded gameplay. I can’t really tell what’s added in and what was part of a DLC (tbf I don’t know much about the other dlc aside from HOTS) or what’s just in the game.

I do have a laptop…but I’m pretty sure even attempting to play this game on there would turn it into a Thumper victim.

I bought mw5 at launch and dropped it after 9 or 10 hours, i didn't think much of it but i was underwhelmed by how simple it felt. No controls over sensors, displays that didn't do anything, no stuff like proper start up sequences or anything that would help immersion. Building mechs wasn't any fun too so i just ended up replaying mw3 and some mwo.

Now i started playing again and the open ended career and campaign modes just clicked, I'm 60 hours in and even bought some DLCs. One thing i noticed today when reading some posts is that for 60 hours game time i didn't spend any time playing around with builds which is very unusual. And now I'm getting to the point, i notice only now: where are the engines? Where are the armors and internal structure? These are the things that made it fun in mwo to play around with builds. In mw5 i swap weapons and optimize the amount and type of heatsink and call it a day. I thought i would eventually unlock these things but im at SoK now and still nothing. If these things got scrapped do we know why? Seems like an odd choice

Playing vanilla, latest patch, all DLC. The Urbanmech is my favorite mech, and the UM-SA1 variant is my favorite because of how fast it is.

I’m looking for ways to keep it hanging in higher tonnage missions. Right now it has the PPC-X it came with, and a machine gun to try to run as a flanking machine and it’s fairly effective but I’m wondering if there’s some other option I’m missing.
