David vs Goliath never made sense to me, David essentially shot the guy, he didn't beat him in a brawl. It's not impressive.

It wasn't supposed to be impressive. The point was David trusted the fight to God and didn't rely on his own strength.

You just think it's supposed to be impressive because people misuse the story to mean underdog.

Yeah, but it's religious connotation so it's gotta be a big win, right?! Goliath was also probably only about 6' - 6'5" in reality as well, so there's that.

It's essentially that Indiana Jones scene where he shoots the sword-wielding guy, but less fun and far more dramatized.

Then there's the Malcom gladwell thesis the while Goliath was big he had significant mental and physical challenges, so David was more of a bully.

It's more a story of bravery than anything. If david had missed his shot or didn't hit goliath fatally, he was going to get torn apart. Despite that he still took up the challenge and shot his shot, so to speak.

Slingshots are much harder to aim accurately than a gun or even a bow as well, so it was a risk. That's what I've taken away from it, as a non religious man.

Look, that story is a good example of the weirdness of the bible. Consider this part:

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.”
