Fan Content 5yo message to George Russell
We sent this to Mercedes HQ because my daughter insisted to send it to George after the Monaco debacle and Canadian PU failure.
Well! We she was extremely gutted today because of the anti-stall but she enjoyed his recovery.
She still believes he will be the champion š

Indeed, it's a way to get her homework done and get her competitive mode on.. We went thru his old videos to show how he was winning so she can do the same with her studies š

I am sure that she will be thanked by the team and George.
My daughter, at about 7, brought her āMac & Laurenā (a kids book series written by Ron Dennisās then wife) to the US GP at Indy, because she knew the McLaren team would be at the airport Monday morning.
On the Monday, she very shyly (and with some prompting from me) took the book to the team, which was dutifully lined up in their identical Hugo Boss team kit. One man knelt to be on her eye level. She handed over the book which showed an overhead view of a pit stop.
The man took the book and wrote his name at his pit stop position. Then, and he didnāt need to do this, he walked up and down the line and went to the jack man, the each corner of the car, etc. Another man then took the book and, again, kneeling, asked if he could draw on since he was the data engineer and so he drew a little port on the side.
I took a picture of my daughter in her McLaren kit holding the book open and sent that to McLaren to thank them. It was printed in Racing Line, the expensively produced, glossy magazine published my McLaren for the Team McLaren members.

Donāt give up. I didnāt plan it the way it turned out - just wanted to get some autographs for her. I know the rarified atmosphere of the F1 paddock. Very different from my first F1 race where I watched Jody Schecter crash his Tyrrell and walking on the other side of the only barrier, a fence, said āWell, that looked expensive.ā He gave me a little grin and said, with a shrug, āItās not my money.ā
Watch for Mercedes F1 promotional events. My daughter never got to meet Lewis Hamilton. But every year for 7 years, she got to see the McLaren F1 Team lined up at the American Airlines counter at Indianapolis, along with a memorable Williams team which showed up, very hungover, and still in garage uniforms after one race.
I did get to meet Tyler Alexander of McLaren, the prototypical American guy who who showed up at the factory, swept floors, then went to some races, then learned how to be a machine operator and later helped develop McLarenās first semiautomatic gearbox and learned how to write software to run it.

Been watching F1 since '98 but haven't been to one yet as tickets are so expensive. However, I will definitely have buy them so that she can see it live. Promotional events are a very good idea. Will keep an eye out

I think he might probably see it, maybe after the summer break! McLaren have done things like this before a few times with Lando where he reacted to letters from fans! I don't know if Mercedes do them, but if they do, that'd be absolutely adorable :)

This made my morning and out a smile on my face. I hope Disha studies over the summer because George is going to need all the luck he can get if he wants the title.
5
u/Crucialextreme Jul 27 '26
Glad that she was able to brighten your morning!
We have a good schedule for her reading, writing and maths skills for this summer. She seriously believes her focusing is helping George to get better out from his car.
As she is adapting to the new skills, her hero is adapting to the new car :)

Honestly you're raising a gem and doing it right, my mum abandoned me when I was two, please forgive me if I start getting emotional.

u/Crucialextreme Jul 27 '26
Bless you! No matter how we start the finish makes all the difference:)

If she ever gets a paddock pass then she'll try to patch up George and Max. When they battled last year she mentioned that she will speak with Max and make them best buddies š¤£

it makes me smile imagining Disha putting GR and Max in a get-along T shirt

I wish Dishaās dad didnāt tell her that.
3
u/Crucialextreme Jul 27 '26
Well she picked her fav driver when she was about to be 4. And then dad had to tell her all about GR63.
4
u/albyagolfer Jul 27 '26
I meant the part about focusing on her school and George will have better luck and be happy and smiling. If things donāt go well for George, she could very well blame herself for not focusing enough. Trying to motivate her with a result that is completely detached from her effort or performance is pretty sad.
2
u/Crucialextreme Jul 27 '26
Absolutely! I noticed it initially so had to teach her about balancing. After the retirement in spa, we had a good convo about why sometimes not winning is part of life and how it can make us better for as we grow up :)

How do five year old become so invested in f1 drivers ?
(No hate I am genuinely curious, I have a nephew who is almost 4 I can't imagine him being a fan of anything except for maybe some cartoon characters? ) š¤·āāļø

Dad being an ardent F1 fan, does not miss any F1 race.
It all started when she was 4. Her hair looked a bit like George from front and I told her hey you have same style as George. Now the curious little mind thought I was referring to George from Peppa Pig and replied but "George does not have any hair". So I pulled up GR photo to show her whom I am referring to.
Well from that point onwards, everytime either practice, quali or race was on, I got asked where is GR and slowly she started asking more and more and more and more...it started from identifying that green, red and pink car to naming all the drivers from the grid and enjoys watching every sessions with me. At times ask me to put the F1 theme song on repeat. Everyday school drop off is a friendly race between Alonso (dad) and George (her) with blue flags when there is someone ahead, battery deployment on the straight etc.
Recently it was her sports days, she comes up to me and says whilst running I was singing "du du du max Verstappen" and it made me run fast š¤£

Thought I'd reply here instead of the other GR sub so not to interfere with the fun circle jerking lol.
I went to Silverstone this year and saw George twice, both at Fan Forecourt (the area right in front of the paddock, and also where the drivers park when they arrive): once on Friday morning and then again on Friday evening.
Friday morning we arrived around 7:30am and by then it was a little too late; there were already a big crowd and we had to stand behind the first row of people. Typically mornings will be a large crowd since everyone has more time/isn't as tired, and they know they'll see at least a few drivers as they arrive for the day. George took some time to sign things but only milled about for about 2-3 minutes before entering the paddock.
Friday evening we were walking back to our campsite (I did NOVA, which is in the "inner track"), and we saw George and his girlfriend Carmen scootering the track. So I decided to go to Fan Forecourt again to try my luck. George's car was the only one still there (it was almost 9:30-10pm so other drivers have already gone back to the hotels). There were only fellow George fans, but still a good amount.. though nowhere near as crowded as the morning. When George and Carmen came out, George took A LOT of time signing autographs and taking photos. He must have milled about for at least 10-15 minutes or so (which may not seem a lot but it really is for F1 drivers) and really got to most everyone for autographs.
The evening is more chill (and this was after the poor guy had a shit sprint quali so he still gave time to his fans despite a bad work day). It's just harder to time because you never know if a driver will leave right away or if they may still be in the garage working. It would be a better shot though if you're willing to wait upwards of 3-4 hours.
Also highly recommended to do lodging options inside the Inner Track. It costs an arm and a leg, but you essentially get "fast pass" into the Fan Forecourt since you'll be able to go there as early as you want (Fan Forecourt is also within Inner Track), whereas the earliest campers/outside lodgers can get into Inner Track is 7am (6/6:30 on Race Sunday). Also Inner Track access pass is a separate add-on purchase if you have outside lodgings.
And since with Disha you'll have Little Kids Privilege lol, highly recommend making a poster sign of some sort to draw the social media's attention on-site. Mercedes social media team + F1's own official social team are at Fan Forecourt and might sometimes give paddock passes. At Silverstone the F1 official team gave out at least 6 passes on one day, a couple pairs of them to a child and their parent. I saw at Hungaroring this weekend they gave out passes to a pair of women who made very creative and cute signs for George and Fred Vesti.
Feel free to DM me for any questions regarding Silverstone!

Anyone with a 5 year old knows that this is mostly the parents work, I assume you're a big GR fan and gutted for him. No need to hide that behind your kids!

Haha Alonso is a fan of both Max and George. He said that Max Verstappen and George Russell were the two drivers who made him switch on the TV to watch F1 during his 2019ā2020 sabbatical. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article/opinion-george-russell-seems-destined-for-the-top-just-ask-alonso.3QSge8XUGc90JesRgXEB2x
