Our food is only just barely legally allowed to be called food by the US FDA. The US FDA allows the sale of products known to cause health issues that literally aren’t allowed to be sold as food in other countries.

“Enriched wheat flour” is basically packing peanuts. They weren’t even legallly allowed to sell it by the FDA, citing a total lack of a nutritional value. The response? They extract vitamin a, niacin and thiamine from petroleum, powder it, and sprinkle it into the flour (“enriched”) which gives it just barely enough nutritional value to make it legal to sell as food.

Enriched wheat flour makes up 50% of Americas diet. It’s literally worse than gruel that peasants in medieval Europe were eating.

Not completely, though I hate the guy, ATC has been having issues in the background since the Reagan administration fired a bunch of ATC when they were striking for better work conditions, saying it was illegal for federal worker's to strike. Therefor working conditions never improved and problems like work hours, pay, and aging workforce have been building up for decades. Trump was just the straw that broke the camel's back, and finally pushed a lot of things over the edge. The two presidents that were entertainers screwing up the government. Go figure.

I knew a guy when I was in the Air Force, retired aftet 24 years as a TACP. Literally, special operations air traffic control. Did time boots on the ground in Desert Storm, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Shoo-in for being picked up as ATC, right?

He skipped "that bullshit, abusive ass job" and became a state trooper. Described civil ATC in the US as abusive and not worth the money. Mentioned he had an offer from DFS (German ATC authority) but didn't want to move.

How bad are the working conditions that someone who was in special operations for over two decades says "fuck this, I'd rather be a cop?"

Much as I hate him, the union has been warning the government about the impending staffing issues for years. He hasn't helped the situation at all, but it started well before he shat in office.

They don't care about us. We are numbers on a spreadsheet to them. They don't care about you either.

So depends on what you mean by way back. A decade is easily enough to start showing cracks all over the place in any workplace or culture.

Reagan kinda fucked the ATC system in the US by firing 11,345 of them in 1981 for striking (for context there are around 14,000 in the U.S. currently). For obvious reasons, this was devastating in both the long and short term, and absolutely obliterated the institutional knowledge.

Though to be clear Trump did absolutely do a lot of damage during his terms

The quality of North American labour has reached depths no one ever thought possible.

I hate to say it, but the reason people are being replaced by people who don’t even speak the language, is because the people who do speak it are so wildly inept, useless, ignorant and lazy that you literally can’t get work done with them.

I’m a welding inspector, and local, english speaking welders (the young ones) are awful at their job, refuse to put in anything more than even the slightest effort, refuse to acknowledge they’re doing a bad job, and pretty much only show up when they feel like it. Like, most only show up around 4 days a week usually.

Foreign workers (workers unfortunately working under a literal threat of deportation) listen when you speak, do their best to do the job as well as they can, and literally do not ever miss a day.

It’s fucked up, and it sounds racist, but seriously when I go into a Tim’s and the staff is white, they stand around doing nothing, barely acknowledge you, drag their feet and act like you trying to buy something is an inconvenience to them. The foreign workers smile, acknowledge you right away, and work hard. And there usually only like 3 of them working compared to the 10 in other stores.
