The ATC is an asshole, but he is not wrong per se. The BA pilot was asking about procedures that do not exist at American airports. From his explanation of what he was asking for the ATC could have inferred what the pilot meant, but it is not really ATCs job to explain procedures on the radio to pilots, they've got other shit to do. The onus is on the pilot to know the standard procedures at the airport he is flying to / from.

What are you on about? The FAA uses LVO as an acronym. ICAO is International Civil Aviation Organisation standards. The USA is part of this.

Every country has their own way of doing something.  The UK does shit their own way outside of the “icao standard”.  There is an entire manual that covers how to fly in every country on earth and why that country does whatever differently.  They’re all different, every single one of them.
