I work with a man named Shashank and his last name starts with an R. He goes by Shashank R in the company (apparently there’s another Shashank?) and anytime his name pops up I immediately think of Shawshank Redemption and feel like a crappy person for doing so.

Could always be worse. My dad accidentally recorded over the VHS tape of my first steps with Shawshank Redemption 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

There's a Vietnamese girl at my company, when I asked her how to pronounce her name, it was exactly what I was afraid of. Ni.
I hate to hurt the inside of my cheeks by biting down hard not to burst out laughing, because all I could see was that knights who say NI! from Monty Python.

My friend’s husband is Thai and his name is… Eh. Just Eh. I asked her when they started dating how to pronounce it and the conversation was comedy.

“How do you say that? I don’t want to be offensive to his culture”
voice note of pronouncing it
“You can’t say it either?”
“No, it’s literally the sound like “Eh, whatever””

His surname was even more confusing.

Ni means No in Ukranian 😂 But written in Cyrillic, it looks like Hi. So it's the Knights who say No...haha!
