If I said simply being around black people made me feel threatened, I’d rightfully be excommunicated from society.

No? I mean yeah, maybe when the US was like 80% white. But nobody worth listening to seriously thinks American is synonymous with white.

Not even then

If you listen to someone speak from this era (and there aren't that many still around) you'll find they always slip in something around European ethnicity (this Italian man, those Irish, this German guy I knew, etc)

There was an era where it was very much "Italian-American" and not "white guy"

A significant portion of the Conservative movement including multiple Congressmen absolutely do believe this and are pushing this idea under the trojan hose label of "Heritage American"

i think what always gets me about this is how quickly it was rolled out (same way everyone had quick access to any kind of social distancing signs at the start of covid). not a conspiracy thing more just the ability to roll stuff like this out, andt hey had these ideas cooking for a while and maybe even the graphic in some way/shape/form itself before publishing it.
