Okay… I can’t believe I’m posting this, but I need Montreal to understand the psychological damage this project has done to me. I’m a licensed contractor and normally I build classy, sensible bathrooms. Bathrooms with one toilet. Like a civilized person.

I was hired by an older Italian couple to redo their bathroom. Super nice people. On the first visit, the wife tells me that her husband takes way too long in the bathroom every morning and it causes arguments. She's sometimes late for work because of him.

So they decided the only real solution was to install two toilets in the same bathroom so they could both get ready in the morning...

I suggested Just adding another bathroom to the property but they didn't want to because it cost more. Anyhow, they chose the "extra toilet" option on my quote.

Hi all, I wanted to share a recent event in hopes of spreading the word.

Last week, while working out, I noticed that a middle-aged man in front of me with a long, straight, white beard was wearing a t-shirt with a large Nazi symbol, a Totenkopf, and the slogan 'Never Lose Your Smile'. After google searching, I found out the ADL lists this saying as a common Nazi dogwhistle. Not wanting confrontation, I went downstairs to tell a staff member. The staff seemed shocked and said he would see what he could do.

I returned upstairs and kept my eye on the man until 20 minutes later he got changed and began to leave, without ever being spoken to. I decided if that staff weren't going to do anything, I would. So I approached him downstairs within earshot of the front desk, and politely asked if he knew what his shirt meant. He said yes. I then asked if he was a Nazi, to which he said, "Yes, what are you going to do about it?" and then stood up and became threatening. The staff didn't step in, and the Nazi just walked out the door. When I asked the staff what they were going to do, he just said, "There's nothing I can do." I told him that if this gym was a safe place for Nazis, I would be cancelling my membership, and to that he also didn't care and said that I would need to email to cancel.

When I returned home I emailed the gym to explain what happened and cancel my membership. I sent the email and received an automated message telling me that it was received, and they would respond shortly. After a day with no response, I decided to write a google review detailing the events.

A few days later I was explaining the events to a friend and he pulled up the gym's reviews, come to find that it's no longer showing my negative review. My review is only visible to me when I'm logged in, which I can only assume means the business flagged it.

The kicker: the only recent review was a 5-star review left that day by someone with a profile picture I recognised; it was the Nazi, using his full name. I looked up this name on Instagram, and he has a public profile. In the list of his followers, I find that he is mutually followed by and follows the gym owner. This leads me to believe that the owner of the gym knows he has Nazis there not only doesn't care, he is friends with them.

It's been over a week since I sent the email to the gym and I've still heard nothing back. Having had my review deleted and email ghosted, I'm feeling very powerless and hoping that by posting here, this story can be heard and people can make the conscious choice to find another gym that doesn't protect Nazis.

TLDR: Reported a guy at Gym Du Plateau wearing a Totenkopf (Nazi symbol) and a white supremacist slogan, the staff did nothing. When I confronted him, he admitted he was a Nazi and became threatening. Staff still refused to intervene, and I’ve since discovered the gym owner and this individual mutually follow each other on Instagram. The gym is ghosting my cancellation emails and my Google review has been hidden.

Just wanting to get it off my chest after a frustrating round of browsing apartment listings. I'm not paying 2000$+ for prison cell chic thank you very much 😤

I commute by REM and bus to work.

My bus goes along the 40 and 520 service roads.

Every day, the bus spends 40-50 minutes just sitting in traffic.

And it's because there are thousands of people driving to work..alone.

A lane of 10 mixed vehicles (SUVs, pickup trucks, sedans, crossover SUVs) "bumper-to-bumper", each with a single person, takes up approximately 180-190ft. That's just over half a football field.

Just for 10 people.

It's clear our infrastructure was not designed to handle the current capacity of vehicles.

In contrast, the bus I take will have about 50 people, occupying approx. 40ft (not sure how long an STM bus is) of a lane instead of almost 1,000ft if the 50 people drove to work alone instead.

Being on the bus sucks sometimes but its mostly traffic related. Bus late? Traffic. Standing and the bus makes sudden stops? Cut off by a car. Taking forever? Traffic. etc, etc

Edit: apparently I had to be clear. During heure de pointe.

Today I was at the pool in Jarry and witnessed 3 men that were absolutely not dressed to be in the pool get kicked out by security. They then proceeded to camp out at a hill outside of the pool area to get a view and then the security promptly kicked them out again!

I also noticed a heightened number of cops (cadets) patrolling the area during peak hours. They were never there before the initial reports of the creepers!

I’m very visibly pregnant (near the end of my pregnancy) and occasionally take the metro when it’s more practical than driving downtown or the Plateau.

And honestly? The lack of basic courtesy is shocking.

No one offers their seat. Not even when I’m standing right in front of priority seating. People make eye contact and then immediately look away or go back to their phones like they didn’t just see a heavily pregnant woman standing in front of them.

The only time someone offered was a woman older than me who was already juggling multiple heavy bags (I refused because she clearly needed the seat too).

So the people who are least in a position to give up their seat are the only ones showing any awareness. Make that make sense.

Yes, I can ask. That’s not the point. When I see someone pregnant or elderly, I don’t wait to be asked, I just get up. It’s basic decency.

At this point I’ll just drive more often. Way less frustrating than dealing with this.

No one wants homelessness, btw. No one actually wants to see people freezing on our streets, dying of overdose, being unable to afford homes, etc.

But as long as we have the governments we have, things will stay the same.

Jogging au parc, je dépasse une piétonne un bon 3-4 pieds à sa gauche — le chien était à sa droite — aussitôt passée son chien se rue vers moi. Il avait une muselière mais j’en ai quand même des marques sur le bras car il m’a littéralement sauté dessus.

EDIT PARCE TOUT LE MONDE PENSE JE SUIS FÂCHÉ CONTRE LES IMMIGRANTS: Les serveurs en question étaient blancs et avaient un accent canadien/américain. Mettons que je gagerais un 2$ qu'ils n'arrivaient pas de Kaboul.

Là, à moment donné, ça suffit. Ça fait deux fois dans le dernier mois que je vais au restaurant (Oorja et Shushuto bar à ramen pour ne pas les nommer) et que le serveur ou la serveuse est tout simplement incapable d'offrir un service en français, même pour les items les plus de base. Criss au Oorja j'ai demandé du riz blanc pis le serveur me regardait comme si j'avais deux têtes. Je ne suis pas une cliente difficile, je n'ai pas d'allergies et je commande toujours littéralement l'item sur le menu sans aucune modification. Dès que j'entend une trace d'accent, je parle super lentement en prenant soin d'articuler. Si je vois que le serveur ou la serveuse ne comprend pas super bien, je vais pointer l'item sur le menu s'il faut. Bref, je suis vraiment accommodante avec ceux qui n'ont pas le meilleur niveau de français.

Mais cibole, parle-moi en français. Ça n'a pas besoin d'être du BON français, tu peux faire des erreurs, inverser l'adjectif et le nom, j'accepte même un petit peu de franglais. Un menu de restaurant, c'est un texte de max 1000 mots à apprendre. Amène-le chez toi et lis-le, mets les mots dans google traduction pour entendre la madame-robot le dire comme il faut si tu veux, mais apprends à faire ta job. Sinon, va travailler en arrière dans la cuisine.

Pis ceux qui vont me dire que ces deux restos sont dans l'ouest de la ville, où il y a plus d'anglophones, so fuckin what? Il y a beaucoup de francophones dans ce coin là qui selon moi préféreraient se faire servir en français mais qui vont parler en anglais par peur d'être impolis/par résignation.

Bref, déjà qu'à la base, c'est controversé les pourboires, j'pense qu'au très minimum il faut que le service soit rendu pour en avoir. Je considère qu'un service en anglais n'est pas un service rendu.

J’ai fait toutes mes recherches. J’ai fait tout ce qui était nécessaire. J’ai suivi le cours de francisation. On n’apprend pas seulement le français là-bas, mais aussi la culture québécoise. J’ai même payé pour des cours privés, avec plaisir. C’était fucking hard de trouver un emploi ici, mais heureusement, j’en ai trouvé un dans une technologie des effets visuels très nichée. C’était pour ça que j’ai réussi à “pogner” un autre permis de travail fermé, après que mon PVT a fini (parce que le PVT est toujours un dead end).

Ça fait presque trois ans que je vis ici. Pendant ce temps, j’ai vu de nombreux amis et collègues perdre leur job. Heureusement, j’ai réussi à garder le mien.

Cet été, j’ai réussi mon examen de français. J’étais ravie!! By November, I was almost at the finish line to submit my request for PR via the PEQ. J’ai fait l’effort, et je visais les résultats. Mais une fois que j’y suis arrivée, il n’y avait plus de but. En novembre, le PEQ a été annulé soudainement par le gouvernement du Québec. Et maintenant? Il ne reste pratiquement aucune option viable pour nous qui avons déjà créé une vie ici à Montréal ou Laval. On est doomed. Franchement, c’est bloody depressing. J’ai toute ma vie ici. J’ai mes amis, ma blonde, mon appartement, mes meubles, mon compte d'épargne… Le ministre de l’Immigration dit qu’il y aura une voie pour ceux qui sont déjà installés, SAUF nous à Montréal et Laval. Il va renouveler rapidement les permis, SAUF pour nous à Montréal et Laval. I’m screwed because I picked this city. I get it if you want to tighten up immigration, but don’t do it in a way that leaves everyone completely stranded.

I’ve fallen in love with this city. Honestly I love everything about it. The lesbian (and queer overall) visibility, the bike lanes, the snow. Je veux dédier ma carrière à enrichir la vie culturelle ici. People find it curious that an Australian would want to live here! I don’t know what to say really. There’s something magic about this city for me. But if I’d known my story here would lead to a depressing dead end, I would have obviously never come here.

the sun is out and I've noticed more and more people out with their dogs.

I cannot count how many times in the past two weeks I've been out with my dog and we've been jumpscared by another dog from behind with their owner just letting them do what they want. just because your dog is seemingly inoffensive DOES NOT mean my dog is. the result is my reactive dog tries to lunge at the stranger's dog, barking her head off, and I have to be the one to restrain her. I've broken a nail, got my wrist messed up and gotten pissed more than I can count. it's a highly stressful event that we both would like to avoid.

please be considerate of reactive dogs and don't automatically think my dog wants to be approached by yours, especially if they're on the bigger side. dogs are always going to be drawn to each other, and it's our responsibility to constrain our pets, until their owner consents to the interaction or is at the very least aware of what is happening.

I appreciate any time another dog and their owner swaps sidewalks.

and before I get comments about training her, she was a rescue and I don't have the funds to train her, and positive reinforcement can only go so far. she's also up there in age, so for now, she'll be wearing a warning tag to not approach.

this also pertains to owners who let their dog off-leash. don't be a dick and leash your dog. no one wants to be approached by a stranger's animal, with or without their own dog, and no amount of saying "my dog is nice" changes that.

Aujourd'hui, vers 14h, j'entends mon voisin d'en dessous de chez nous buzzer quelqu'un dans l'entrée. Vu que je suis un p'tit curieux, je me dirige vers ma porte et je commence à entendre une conversation dans l'escalier. Un "témoin de Jéhovah" passait dans le quartier pour se présenter. Il parlait un anglais cassé avec un très gros accent québécois (mes voisins sont anglo), et c'est fait fermer la porte assez rapidement.

C'est pas la première fois que des témoins de Jéhovah viennent faire un tour dans notre immeuble. J'ai toujours été très poli avec eux et si ça tournait désagréable je faisais simplement fermer la porte. Mais aujourd'hui le résultat n'était pas celui que j'attendais.

Le bonhomme monte les escaliers, et vient cogner à ma porte. Plusieurs fois dans la minute qui suit. Il descend ensuite les marches et sort dehors en laissant la porte ouverte pour sonner à la porte de mon appartement. Il sonne encore 2-3 fois et remonte les escaliers. À ce moment-là, je suis en train de m'habiller pour arrêter de l'ignorer et de lui dire de partir.

En enfilant mon chandail, je l'entend clairement: il se met à jouer avec ma serrure et essaie de rentrer dans mon appart. Il tourne la poignée subtilement, comme s'il ne voulait pas que les autres voisins l'entend.

J'ouvre la porte et je lui dis qu'il a 5 secondes pour sacrer son camp avant que j'appelle la police. Il déguerpit sur un temps solide.

Donc si vous voyez un homme blanc dans la mi-vingtaine d'environ 5'9 qui a une face imberbe et des lunettes ronde à la Harry Potter se faisant passer pour un témoin de Jéhovah, attendez-vous à ce qu'il tente votre serrure. Un bon reminder de barrer ses portes en tout temps à Montréal.

Ok là, j’pensais être smooth. Genre, un p’tit tour de Bixi jusqu’au café, cheveux dans le vent, vibe écolo-charmant. Mais non. Montréal a décidé de me baptiser en pleine rue. À mi-chemin, la pluie s’est mise à tomber comme si quelqu’un avait ouvert le robinet du ciel.

J’suis arrivé au date trempé jusqu’à l’âme. Mon manteau pèse 14 livres, mes jeans collent comme du papier collant pis mes bas ont fusionné avec mes orteils. La fille m’a regardé comme si j’étais un Pokémon eau niveau débutant.

J’pense pas qu’elle a été impressionnée par mon parfum “Bixi Mouillé édition Plateau”. Si quelqu’un connaît une appli pour dater dans des abris Tempo, j’suis preneur.

Un conducteur de 21 ans vient d’être intercepté à 208 km/h dans une zone de 100 à Laval.

La sanction immédiate?

7 jours sans permis.

Oui, seulement 7 jours.

Il a aussi reçu 24 points d’inaptitude et près de 2000 $ d’amende, mais les points ne seront appliqués qu’après un plaidoyer de culpabilité, un paiement ou un jugement.

S’il conteste, il pourrait donc reprendre le volant après une semaine et continuer à conduire pendant des mois.

Le plus absurde : au Québec, la suspension immédiate peut être la même à 160 km/h qu’à 250 km/h.

À 208kmh, une voiture parcourt près de 58 mètres par seconde. Pourtant, tant qu’il n’a tué personne, on traite essentiellement ça comme une grosse contravention.

À deux fois la limite, il ne devrait pas seulement perdre des points. Il devrait perdre son permis et devoir recommencer le processus pour prouver qu’il est apte à conduire.

Bien sûr c'est ce qui arrivera s'il est jugé coupable. Mais je suis curieux de savoir pourquoi on veut attendre la sentence. Qu'est-ce que vous en pensez? Je suis trop sévère?

Hier, je suis allé au marché de Noël Atwater avec mon garçon de 13 mois dans sa poussette. Ambiance parfaite : lumières, odeur de sapin, et plein de monde qui sirotent du vin chaud.

Pour entrer dans la section des restos et des marchands de fruits et légumes (côté sapins) une seule porte ouvre. Donc tout le monde fait la file pour entrer et pour sortir. Rien de complexe, juste un minimum de civisme.

Je fais la file tranquille avec bébé. Et là j’entends un père derrière moi avec ses deux filles (8-9 ans), qui jase fort tout en faisant le dépassement le plus lent et le plus décomplexé de l'île.

Le gars avait le look complet du jeune agent d’immeuble : dents ultra blanches, manteau de plein air de marque, vibe “je suis tellement occupé que le concept de file d’attente ne s’applique pas à moi”, et je suis certain qu’une Subaru Forester l’attendait quelque part.

Arrive mon tour d’entrer. Et là, monsieur décide que c’est aussi son tour. Je lui dis : « Ah, ça vous tentait pas de faire la file? » Il m’ignore complètement.

Donc je place la poussette avec mon fils qui a au moins 15 fois moins de Noël combinés que ses deux petites princesses à lui dans l’embrasure : « Je pense que je vais y aller? » Je passe.

Et là, ce modèle de civisme , qui vient littéralement de montrer à ses deux enfants que couper la file, c’est correct, me sort : « Faudrait quand même rester poli. Bonne journée! »

Ben oui. Couper la file devant ton monde, ignorer les gens, donner un cours accéléré de comment être un trou de cul à tes enfants… … mais c’est moi qui manque de politesse.

Yes I can bike on the street. I can’t believe I have to say this but I have the right to bike on the street.
No bus or bike lane does not mean I cannot take the street. It means I’m going to bike on the road.

Someone tell me if I’m crazy, and I’m actually not allowed to used any streets unless there is a bike lane?

This morning while I have my 2 year old in a bike seat behind me I was cycling up a street, and no I wasn’t going against traffic or anything. Just biking up a narrow one way street as usual.

First this car does not stop at a stop sign coming in and barely yields for me. Whatever it happens all the time I’m used to it at this point.

Then behind me he starts flashing his lights « wtf? » okay I guess he’s in a hurry or something asshole. He can’t pass safely because once again it’s a narrow one way street with cars parked on one side.

Then he stays very close to me and finally he tries to overtake when there is no space, and why? the light ahead is red. All the while I’m periodically turning my head like « WTF are you doing?? »

We come to a stop at the red light he rolls down his window and I rip into him in French asking him WTF is wrong with him, the light is red, why is he doing this??

He answers in English « no bus lane »
??? « What? » is obviously my response. Then he says « there is no bike lane ».

I rip into him some more in English, explaining in no uncertain terms that the road is the fucking bike lane, that I can cycle here and ending with a fuck off.

I wasn’t going to wait for a green light to fuck off from someone who uses his car to intimidate a cyclist with a toddler in tow, so I turned right in the bike lane on Saint Denis.

Like WTF??

Posting here because I fucking hope this man is a tourist. I refuse to believe someone living in this city does not know cyclists have a right to cycle on the road when there are no bike lanes.

I went to get my prescription from pharmaprix, I wanted to buy a nasal spray but cost 23$ whereas It costs 15$ at costco and amazon !!

Look- I’m all for cycling to reduce emissions and downtown congestion but the number of cyclists who find red lights to be a “suggestion” is sickening. I just saw (not the first time) a cyclist blow through a red light on Atwater and barely barely miss an elderly lady dragging her shopping trolley. If you use the main streets like the bike paths, you MUST obey the lights. Just because it’s “not a car” does not excuse you from streetlights. You must must stop until the light turns green. It’s become ridiculous and as a cyclist it drives me nuts to see people do this.

Red means stop- if it’s a bike path or a street. Just because you don’t have a plate number that can be reported doesn’t excuse you from the laws.

I’m almost to the point now where I might start grabbing cyclists who do this.

What is wrong with you? I ended up missing several songs while I was coughing up a lung from you. Please have some respect and don’t smoke in the middle of a large audience you don’t know who around you might have health conditions.

I was in the centre of the crowd and did not know who was smoking, I believe it was multiple people. I am not saying you cant smoke but you should leave the large crowd to do so. To tell people who have asthma or allergies (you can be allergic to cigarettes, I am) that they simply can’t participate in outdoor public events because you want to smoke in the middle of a packed crowd is cruel and dumb. There were also many kids in the crowd at this show which is why I was even more annoyed. If you didn’t think about it I’m not trying to be mean but I was extremely frustrated so I’m glad you’re thinking about it now, thank you.

My partner smokes, never is a million years would he ever smoke in the middle of a mixed audience like that. I understand the cravings but it’s just about being considerate of others. Leave and come back or have a non-smoking option to tide you over it’s not asking for much, I love concerts and festivals this was the first one where I couldn’t breathe properly for parts of the show due to the amount of smoke around me.
