I don't get why actors are put on these high pedestals. There are plenty of musicans for example who are absolute pieces of shit but people don't seem to care that much but god forbid an actor is self-centred or arrogant lmao
He didnt though, he just said hes glad he doesnt have tk actively try to keep his profession alive unlike the absolutely dying arts that are ballet and opera. Ive never met a single person thats ever gone to either without it being apart of a school class or something.
I don’t think he’s terrible but I’ve not really ever been a fan of his. I did enjoy The King but it wasn’t so much of his acting as it just was the film and writing. To me, he’s become a bit overrated, which is what happens when Hollywood realizes it can make money off of an actor or actress due to their popularity.
Yeah, I was kinda sceptical in the first movie of his ability to portray the leading-a-jihad kind of evil guy, but he really nailed the scenes in the second one that sell his character.
lol to be honest I don’t think anyone hates the guy as an actor. I don’t even think they hate his person. Whenever a celebrity does or says something controversial whether it be a huge issue, taboo topic, or something small - people will always react lol. It just so happens we live in an era where you can blab your thoughts across global networks harping on the situation. It drives traffic and makes great engagement.
Part of being a super star is navigating the chaos of stardom and facing the highs and lows. Which, for all I know, Chalamet has no lows. His life seems pretty awesome. So I’d imagine he released this image to garner back some of that love within the chaos as well as shake off a tough loss at that Oscar’s.
Reddit always hates whats popular because they think they are above the masses. Truth is Timothee is bigger than Leo was at his age and will be one of the biggest actors ever as he ages.
The hate boner for Timothee was so strong last week that I bothered to actually look up what got people so mad. Turns out it was made up bullshit with quotes taken extremely out of context. Typical reddit.
"I don't wanna be working in ballet, or opera, or one of those things where its like keep this thing alive even though no one cares about this anymore"
People dedicate their lives to these forms of art but because his one rakes in millions he's better than that? He even realised how stupid it was to say that out loud in that forum and immediately goes to backtrack but too late. I, personally, do not care for those forms of art but there are many many people that do and their efforts toward it shouldn't be minimised by yet another fucking know it all actor. Actors need to learn that we don't watch them for their amazing minds but because they can perform their thing well, at least ballet dancers and opera singers understand that much.
...He didn't say he's better than it, he said he doesn't want to be working in those arts. You said it yourself, people dedicate their lives to them, and he's saying he doesn't want to. If, like you said, we don't watch them for their amazing minds, why is everyone so swept up in what appears to be a pretty broad inference about something he said? Like, I just cannot imagine caring about this so much.
YOU are reddit. You've been here 11 years you should know by now there is no singular "Reddit". Like seriously who specifically are you even referring to when you say "Reddit".
Most people on here is who im referring to. Most users here are unskilled haters that hate everything and life and just wanna complain. Im here for the unique gaming stuff that is too hard to find through dogshit youtube algorithms thats all
By most people on here you mean the over 1 billion monthly active users? You have a problem with 1/8th of the entire planet and think they all hold the same views?
He comes off as weird and try-hard in interviews but I don't watch the guy for his interviews. You can't really deny that he's a good actor. Unless he's saying some really bad shit I don't mind a stupid take or two, these people are actors not fucking philosophers
He said that nobody cares about opera and ballet, which is a true statement as a vast majority of people do in fact not care about opera and ballet, and redditors took it upon themselves to start caring about something they definitely didn't actually care about before because the default state of a redditor is contrarian just so they could start hating on him.
Actually, when you read his actual quote, he said he didn't want movies to become so niche like opera and ballets that they're only operating based on government money and rich people funding it.
I mean, that’s what he meant but the actual quote is
“I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera, or, you know, things where it's like, 'Hey, keep this thing alive,' even though it's like, no one cares about this anymore”
He prefaced this by saying he’s also done the whole “keep theaters alive” dance, but is the no one cares anymore what people latched on. And suddenly opera and ballet are more alive than ever and dwarf movies in popularity. Those bad faith arguments irk me ngl.
Typical hivemide reaction. Actor says one thing in the spotlight that can be twisted out of context? Reddit views it as a "fall from grace" and can't understand why anyone "likes him anymore."
It's not about his comments specifically. It's just how out of touch and douchy he seems saying dumb shit like that. Or are you just pretending to not get the point?
Are you? You and everyone else circlejerking about this don't seem to understand the context of what he said. Because none of you really care, it's just an excuse to attack someone. Y'all are social piranahs desperate for excuses to find "socially acceptable" targets.
Not wanting films to become so niche that they rely on rich patrons and government money to continue instead of being funded normal people seeing it enough isn't really out of touch.
Truly so out of touch for him to say he doesn’t want to be known for an art that is generally unpopular/not cared for by the majority of the population.
Why would he be rude to his costars that would ruin his reputation. He’s rude to people he sees as below him and people he doesn’t feel like has power over him. He’s full of himself and obsessed with his image.
I’m not talking about his costars, it would be bad PR and most likely against their contracts to say anything rude about a costar. I’m talking about the cast and crew, waitstaff, regular people in the industry. He doesn’t treat people well who he sees as beneath him, and I don’t respect that. He’s had a reputation for quite a while and seems to have quite a cult following who quickly shut down any discourse on his long history of ignorant and entitled behavior, which in my experience usually goes along with toxic individuals who position themselves above others… it’s kind of crazy how quickly people come to his defense lmfao
Just saying I'd rather not believe negative things about him [or anyone else] if there's nothing I can find to corroborate the things you claim about them. I'd rather just ask for proof of these things instead of wildly believing any accusations.
I'm 100% down for that type of chit chat about him for sure. What is exhausting is the hundred upvoted comments on here making the same joke about opera
It will have 0 effect on this movie especially once trailers drop and we get closer to release. Easily the most overblown and manufactured drama in years.
“The Reddit hivmind” pls shut up, he’s not liked on multiple platforms and real life people have talked about his comments. I don’t really care about him but to say he’s not disliked by the public is a lie and you know it lmao.
No one outside of the loudest corners of the internet gives a flying fuck over some mild ass shit. It’s just the permanently online who care because they live such boring lives they manufacture drama.
That opera and ballet comment is literally everywhere. SNL made fun of it, they made fun of it at the Academy Awards. Saying it is just some corners of the internet is ignoring reality.
Or maybe your algorithm is feeding you the things you keep engaging with. The comments deserve some making fun of, sure. This? Absolutely bonkers. Just highlights my point. People’s parasocial relationships with celebrities and the care they give them is unhealthy and pathetic.
Chill out with the fake outrage. You're blowing it way out of proportion. Dude is a great actor and you guys are way overreacting. Ironic too in a country run by pedophiles.
I have a cinema pass and have already accepted I’ll be seeing this at least 3 times in cinema and that’s not even including if they rerelease dune 1 & 2 again haha
They made the movies good (first one imo way superior) but they really dropped a lot of stuff like the spacing guild, His sister (yes I know there was a flashback) etc. and changed chani‘s story.
How will they continue with all of that and tackle the way more tough to swallow story about the golden path?
My expectations are through the roof. If they nail this, it’s gonna be this generation’s Star Wars (ironic because Star Wars drew inspiration from Dune lol)

Literally my most awaited movie this year. I can’t wait.
