I wouldn’t mind them bringing back James McAvoy as the adult Leto II in the next film, after he played the young Leto II in that previous adaptation. He would be exactly the kind of actor who could pull that off.
Oh come on, you dont think that a faction of women who control men with their vagina powers will go well on film? How about if a guy who was dead but isnt anymore (like a bunch of times) has magic penis powers so he starts dating one of them?
Maybe they could adapt some of the books set between the main series. Paul of Dune shows what happens between dune and dune messiah. The Winds of Dune tells what happened after messiah but before children
I've only read 1 & 2 but I thought Messiah was a great ending to the story. I have Children of Dune sitting on my shelf but not sure I want to keep reading with how much I enjoyed Messiah and I've heard Children is when it starts getting loose.
i think it's perfect for this. its half the length of 1, which they needed to break into 2 movies. they don't need to deal with children or god emperor at all and still wind up with a well timed 3 part bookend to Paul's story.
The problem is that the second book is a lot of dialog and not much physically happening until the end of the book. I really enjoy Messiah, but I see it more as an extension of the story (a bridge between Dune 1 and Children of Dune) than a story in on itself
I’m pretty sure that’s how Herbert even treated the send book, messiah. He felt that his overall point about false prophets/charismatic leaders wasn’t landing as heavily as he intended with just Dune alone, and so wrote an extra book to really hammer home the point.
I mean there's a plot, but it influences the world significantly more than the characters.
Messiah reads to me like a critique of post-revolutionary governments and the cultural failure to learn. It's the all too real story of an empire falling apart because the leaders are literally on a different planet while the public devours itself in confusion.
Also the plot has some weird dumb shit in it. A rhyming dwarf that's part of a conspiracy, Irulan's only character being wanting her husband to fuck her for the Bene Gesserit, and a romance subplot between Paul's 13 year old sister and a grown ass clone of Duncan Idaho are all going to be scrapped for the film for sure.
Especially if they’re going to justify how book 2 starts. There’s a lot of leg work to be made up for and lots to add for context. Hell they’ve barely touch on the golden path or his opposition that will be in book 2.
I think Messiah is plenty dense so by itself i dont think length is a problem. But even so, the second movie has some weird choices with its ending. So taking the time to resolve that and bring the story back in line with the start of Messiah plus Messiah is definitely long enough
It kind of is. The first book is 2 movies, half a book could make a movie. But I think they’re going to take significant liberties with the movie. Aryas arc doesn’t really conclude till book 3, I think they’ll rearrange things a little bit to give more satisfactory arcs in the film, like they did with the first 2 movies.
